Re: [sandhu] At the very end ... Well done!

Hi Klaus,

I think that most of the commentators need to bone up on the new system and
suspect that their opinions will serve to confuse people until they do. One
thing I'll mention....at Junior Worlds all the commentary was done from the CBC
truck so Barb & Paul saw the skating live only during practices. I know that it
was done the same way at Worlds and suspect that it was so for all commentators.
This sometimes serves to affect perceptions especially relating to ice coverage
and speed. I don't know what I think of this new development.

I'm anxious to see the protocols as there are quite a few marks which make me
wonder.

I agree that speed is a factor for Emanuel, but so is stalking the big jumps.
He needs to shorten his set-up time and put more between those elements than
just stroking. Personally, I think they need to consult with someone on his
programs for next season. It's past time for being happy for small
improvements as we're into the Olympic year. Hopefully they realize all of this
as well.

Well, you're absolutely right.
There is a big change in skating - so, for example, our german
commentatories want the chinese guy to win the silver and they felt
him robbed ... They couldn't stop wondering about his marks.

But there are two things I like to mention and to add respectively.

- Emanuel had the jumps this time he missed before while the new
World champion was not able to compete the Axel yesterday.

- For the first time the judges recognized his skating skills;
in the Short he was awarded not more in the former second mark than
Chengjiang Li - but in the Free Program he got more than Johnny Weir.

I consider this encouraging and I hope Emanuel and his coach will
follow this way.

Of course, its easier to think about ... IMO his programs lack of
speed. He seems to concentrate so much for the jumps. this is what I
wish them to change next year.

Klaus

throw in a dose of reality, however, because this season I feel that
they shot thrmselves in the foot before they ever got started. It
seemed that they put total emphasis on having a quad and failed to
upgrade other areas of Emanuel's programs to get the most out of the
CoP system. I pray that in Emanuel's dreams he'll see his way clear
to focus on these details in addition to that pesky quad. If he'd
done that he'd be unbeatable.
