OK. I am a beginner in sandboarding. I am building up 10 new
boards for a group of Texas Tech kids to go boarding here in Texas.
We are going to Monahans State Park in a couple of weeks. I am
building the boards out of 1/2" 9-ply birch with formica base. Each
board is roughly 12"x60" twin tips. I assume DR. Dune's Speed wax is
the best wax to use, but I am having a little trouble getting ahold
of any place to buy some. My dad grew up around the sand hills in
Kermit and Monahans Texas, and they always used candles or Gulfwax
canning wax. I have heard to use everything from carnauba to
parifin, to hard wood floor wax, to even liquid teflon.
What is the best and what are the alternatives?
Do I need to re-wax before each run?
How much wax do I need to apply each time?
Anywhere I can get Dr. Dune's Speed Wax rather quickly?
How do I go about hot waxing and is it necessary?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
