María Antonia turned in a very impressive performance to almost win
Madrid, where she was a wild card:

sf + Barbara Schett, 6-1 6-3
f - CHANDA RUBIN (1), 4-6 7-5 4-6

This was María Antonia's second-ever final on the WTA Tour, after she
won her only title at Knokke-Heist in 1999. María Antonia is ranked
84th to Rubin's 8th, but put up a great performance, breaking serve
in the last game of the second set to take it 7-5. Rubin scored the
crucial break at 4-4 in the third, and won in 2h16m.
