Hello!
My name is Zsolt Sandor, and I practice la Canne de Combat since
4 years, I also teach it. I also started to work on my Vigny
Canne skills, but it's a different story.
The french canne federation, C.N.C.C.B. (Comit National Canne de
Combat et Baton) created a dvd with the name La Canne, which is a
very good starting point.
They site is not really intuitive, but check this link:
http://www.budointernational.net/am/tienda/index.php?cPath=21_25
For Vigny Canne, contact Craig Gemeiner, he made 3 DVD's about
Vigny's method:
www.savateaustralia.com
Be careful, that la Canne de Combat, which is a sport, is very
different from la Canne Vigny, which is a, well, self defense
system.
La canne de combat consists from 6 parts:
On competitions, there are 3+1:
- la canne: single stick play
- double canne: double stick play
- baton: staff
- wellchair canne: for people with disabilities
Additional:
- canne chausson: canne and savate, combined
- canne dfense: self defense with the canne
Both CDC (Canne de combat) and Vigny Canne have their value:
- Vigny canne is for self defense, much "combat like".
- La canne de Combat is much more a sport, with competitions, nice
tricks, it's elegant, and graceful. There is European Championships,
and also World Championship from la canne de combat.
Regarding to sticks, and equipments:
- We use a normal 350N fencing mask, which is very good.
- Buy a pair of shinguards, something like this:
http://www.decathlon.co.hu/HU/product_8019385-12891586/
- We make the clothers by ourselfs, because we found sport7 very
expensive. As I have seen, the french guys are also doing the same
thing. :)
- For Vigny Canne, hockey gloves are preferred, but for la Canne de
Combat, they are useless, you need a much lighter, easier glove (do it
yourself :))
- We order sticks from a french old gentleman, which is also cheaper,
than sport7. Only 2 euro / sticks, and for me, to Hungary, the postal
costs was something like 47 euro...
If you write me a private email, I have some books cough, cough :)
scanned, which are in french language, I can send you them.
If you have any questions regarding to la canne de combat,
please, ask it, I try to answer.
Best regards:
Zsolti
Hello guys!
My previous message is lost somehow, it's length was more than a page :(
My name is Zsolt Sandor, and I do la Canne de Combat since 4 years in

For la Canne de Combat I prefer a DVD, produced by

Bertrand Dubreuil - La Canne
I have also some books, if you need them, contact me privately.
For la Canne de Combat, you need:
- sticks: order from sport7online
- shinguards: something like this:
http://www.decathlon.co.hu/HU/product_8019385-12891586/
- a normal 350N fencing helmet after a half year training
Later, a complete suit is preferred, but must of people make it for
themselfs.
For Vigny Canne, check the homepage of Craig Gemeiner, at
http://www.savateaustralia.com/
He sells a complete sets of Vigny Canne DVD's.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me!

Salut Savateurs!
Thought this clip has a lot of "showboating" (some of these assuat
matches are demos) its great to see the command of DISTANCE needed in
Savate (punching right out of kicking and vice versa).

Further to Eric's post...
You can obtain competition and practise canes, and other
Canne and Savate equipment from:
www.sport7online.com
If you know of anyone who makes or supplies longer than
avarage crooked-head canes from Sweet Chestnut (which are
not too thick) you can cut the crooks off and use them for basic
training. The length should be 37+1/2 inches (95 cms).
Ordinary Fencing masks will suffice for protection as well. The
hits are not meant to be delivered with force anyway. You can
often pick up second hand (or should that be second head?)
ones from eBay or from your local Fencing club when they go
over to using the latest wizz-kid type of mask.

Eric
Sorry for the slow replies. I know some folks were getting ready
for the tournament in New Hampshire.
We purchase ALL of our supplies from SPORT 7 in Paris. That is the
only supplier I know of for La Canne stuff. Perhaps Greg Gremnaier
for Australia, who does more De Vigny stuff has a source for his
canes? (check our links page or look up Australian Savate).
Peace,
Armando

Greetings club,
I live in Alaska, posting my first message here on this egroup. Anyone
know of websites that sell Canne De Vigny or Canne De Combat equipment?
I'm also interested in Savate but there are no classes this far north.
I've managed to find some DVD resources but this is nothing like an
actual class, I'm assuming.
I've particularly taken an interest in martial arts weapons, narrowly
speaking the bokken (Japanese), Escrima (Filipino) as well as the Canne
(French).
I look forward to any suggestions and/or links offered.

Dear All,
A quick introduction...
I've been a martial arts enthusiast for well over a decade and have
studied a variety over the years.
I'm contacting you all as you may be interested in an ezine I've
recently launched on martial arts. The first issue contains an excellent
article on Savate, with video footage. The ezine is in PDF, and
available gratis at
www.oakebooks.com/ezines
I'm gearing up for issue 2, to be released on March 1st (less than a
fortnight away).
Would any of you like to swap a link from your club's website for a
listing on mine? Or would you like to submit an article or news item for
inclusion in the next issue? If you've anything for this issue please
let me know ASAP. News of events during March, April or May is welcome;
for later events these may go in a later issue. New articles are
*always* welcome: please contact me off-list.
Big thanks,
Tony
