In Sacramento I like SportMart (1700 Arden Way) and The Sports
Authority (6005 Madison Avenue). Both have many brands and models of
skates and lots of supporting equipment.

Anyone interested in marathon skating is probably interested in the
following information from Allan Wright:

Zephyr Inline Skate Tours has created a new site called

world's first online training program for skaters wishing to complete
a marathon. Content will include information on Skating Technique,
Marathon Secrets, Nutrition & Hydration, Stretching & Strengthening,

in the field, including 12-time World Champion Cheryl Ezzell Matula.
MarathonSkating.com is the Official Training Program of both the 2003
Northshore Inline Marathon and the 2003 Cactus Classic Marathon. For
more information, visit the site.

Please help spread the word!

Fellow skaters,

The major skate event of the season is just three days away! That means online registration will close tomorrow, Wednesday 6/24 at midnight EDT (that’s 9pm PST, for all you left-coasters)!

Online registration (http://www.phillyskatejam.org/c/registration) is safe, secure, convenient, and there are NO ADDITIONAL FEES. You’ll avoid potentially long lines; this is a huge event and we expect well over 500 skaters! And you’ll help us out too.  For example, we need to know how much food to order for Saturday’s Recreational Skate and Picnic.

After you’ve registered, when you’re packing for the weekend, don’t forget to toss in some nice clothes (this is the nicest hotel in the most upscale area of Philadelphia) and an extra brake (there will be some looooooong downhill descents).

See you on Friday,

The Philly Skate Jam Committee

If you’re one of the hundreds of people from all over the country (20 states and counting!) and as far away as Japan who’ve already registered for the Philly Skate Jam, we thank you! If you’ve been holding out for the the 5-day forecast, you can now register in confidence! AccuWeather (www.accuweather.com) predicts sun the whole weekend with only a possibility of precipitation!

The advantage to registering now is that you’ll have more fun: You’ll be socializing, skating, or partying in your (or someone else’s) luxurious room — whatever — the important thing is that you won’t be waiting in a long line! As it stands, we’ll have over 200 people registering on-site, plus over 300 pre-registrants picking up packets. On-site registration closes at 7pm, so you do the math! Remember that this is event is run by volunteers, and we don’t have an unlimited number of them to help out with on-site registration.   So please help our volunteers and yourself by registering now at http://www.phillyskatejam.org/C/registration.

No matter how you register, you’ll be treated to a weekend of great skating, with some of the most innovative routes yet dreamed-up by our skate planners! Even more sponsors, such as Salomon, K2, and Merck have signed-on and donated prizes for our raffles or other goodies! A K2 rep is flying in from Seattle, and we’ll have the Salomon demo van too!

We’ll see you Friday in Philly! (pre-registered, of course!)

Sincerely,
The Philly Skate Jam Committee
http://www.phillyskatejam.org/C

P.S. Packet pickup (and registration) is on the third floor of the hotel between 4 and 7 pm Friday and between 9 and 10 am Saturday. There will be signs in the lobby to that effect.

Note: Please use your browser’s refresh button on the schedule page to make sure you have the latest information.

The Philly Skate Jam is right around the corner, and there’s only one more day to register for $50; after tomorrow (6/9) that the price will be $60.  Almost two hundred of you signed up as a result of the last mailing; in fact, we had to request another block of hotel rooms! However, for those who haven’t registered yet; this is your last chance to sign up for such a low price, so don’t put it off any longer!

You can register at: http://www.phillyskatejam.org/C/registration/

If you’ve read this far, then you probably read our last email and know that we raffled off a hotel room among those who registered before midnight ET June 3rd. As promised, we’ve selected a winner, and that person is David Reskin from Miami Beach, FL.

OK, that’s probably the last you’ll hear from us where there’ll be just one winner. Why, because our many sponsors have donated a plethora of prizes (lots of them BIG!) for you to win during this year’s event. For example, two USAir Envoy class round-trip tickets to anywhere in Europe or the US! With as many prizes as we have, even the unluckiest person is bound to win something!

To make things as easy as possible for you, we’ve setup online registration at Active.com; it’s safe, secure, and there are absolutely no extra fees. Go to http://www.phillyskatejam.org/registration to get all the details and to register.

We’ve added a lot more information to our site, such as new sponsors like Geno’s steaks and Salomon skates, and new activities such as the IISA’s Get Fit In Philly Instructor Certification Program and the Philadelphia Inline Cup race (both these events dovetail with the PSJ skate schedule, so yes, you can do it all!). Take a look now at http://www.phillyskatejam.org and check back often for the latest information updates.

Looking forward to seeing you in Philadelphia!

My name is Steven Morris and I am a rep for CYKO Wheels. I had the opportunity to purchase several types of last years wheels at a very low price and would like to pass the savings on to the people who could benefit from it the most.

I have three types, The Joule, which comes in 72 mm x 80a, 76 mm x 80a, and is available in several colors, blue, red, yellow, orange, and green. The Joule is a wheel built for the average recreational skater and is priced at $1.45 each. The second wheel is the Fitness Plus. Just as the name implies, it's built for the more accomplished skater who is putting on more miles than the recreational skater. This wheel is available in 76 mm x 80a, in a black or teal color. Both have a design on them but the black and dark teal are the dominate color. These wheels are priced at $1.65 each. The third wheel is the Split Vision which is built again for the more accomplished skater who is putting on a considerable amount of miles each week. This wheel usually comes with graphics but due to our attention to detail, the color of the wheel was a shade off and there for did not get the graphic applied. This wheel is only available in 80 mm x 84a and the color of the wheel is a translucent yellow. Because I was able to get these at a better price than the others, I can offer this wheel for $1.20 each.

All of the wheels, including the last one is guarantied 100% against separation or chunking. If this should ever happen you would receive a replacement, no questions asked.

I hope your club will be able to take advantage of this offer, which will be available as long as the wheels last. I have approximately 4,700 of the Joule, 500 of the Fitness Plus, and 550 of the Split Vision without the graphics.

Should you have any questions please contact me via email or call, 434-978-3630, 434-242-6717 or fax 434-978-4170

Marathon 2002.

The 4 fun group skates are scenic, well guided and the
streets are closed off to traffic on each route.
Flat to hilly, some with excellent twisting turning
down hills. All are a good workout for 4 wheelers. Sag
wagon supported if you don't like hills. The event is
city supported and benefits a local family in need
program. Assuming 2003 is like 2002, several parties
with Philly style food provided by PSJ.

For an extended East Coast stay join me for a short
train ride and stay at the unique and scenic New
Jersey Shore (Good skating along the ocean front)

Any questions just drop me a line.

Fellow Sacramento Skaters Email List Members,

I am forwarding a note to you, which I have just received from David
Miles:

MUST SEE TV - CHRYSTOPHER ON THE TONIGHT SHOW - TONIGHT, TUESDAY,
NOV. 19.

Hi skaters and others,

There are a lot of very unique and talented people in our world of
skating. If you have ever been to Venice Beach and skated at the
Dance Skate Plaza, then you have come in contact with Chrystopher. He
has been one of the driving forces in Venice that has had an enormous
impact on the dance skate scene on the West Coast. He has
participated in the 2000 S.F. to L.A.Skate Against Violence with his
stereo strapped to his back. He has been the prime example of
the "12 Volt D J" and even convinced Ned Roundtree of San Diego and
myself to dress up in drag for a performance called "Dancing Queens".
(It's on the CORA website)

Tonight, Chrystopher will be featured on the Tonight Show with Jay
Leno. He was recently featured on the show, "30 Seconds of Fame" on
FOX. He won $25,000.00 on that show and will return for a grand
championship show later. He will perform tonight and you do not want
to miss it.

DON'T MISS THE SHOW AND SPREAD THE WORD!!!!!!

Keep Rollin',

D. Miles Jr.

P.S. - I believe Chrystopher will be at the USARS Congress and Expo
in Dec.

I have looked up pumpkins on the Sacramento Skating website
(http://www.fortunecity.com/marina/anchor/288/).

In 1999 we skated past 53 hand-carved pumpkins at 2400 Marshall
Street, a location we reached by skating south on 24th Street. This
was a beautiful display of artistic carving, which you would have to
see to fully appreciate. In subsequent years we missed these
pumpkins, which are mainly displayed on Halloween.

This Halloween we can skate to these pumpkins and other locations.
Please join me at 3rd and S Streets at 7:00 p.m. for this special
Halloween skate. If you can, wear a costume.

Sacramento is a great place for skating. Many of the sidewalks and
the streets have good skating. About the only places that forbid
skating are the malls, such as the K Street Mall. Plus, there is the
American River Parkway, and several skateable river levees. And,
there are several skating rinks. Just put on your skates and skate!

I recommend the Monday Night Skate. Not only is there a variety of
skating, but there is also a warm and supportive group of fellow
skaters.
Time: Mondays, 7:00 p.m. Every Monday for the last 3 years,
except when it rained.
Place: Corner of 3rd and S Streets in downtown Sacramento.
       Price: Free.

More information about all of the above is available at the
Sacramento Skating website:
       http://www.fortunecity.com/marina/anchor/288/ .

Hey everyone,
I am new to the area. Where is a good palce to skate? I want to start skating
again. I used to skate every day and then I moved to a town that was not skate
friendly and quit for 5 years and now I want to get back in.
What can you tell me about this group and where to skate and well
everything!
Reba
