June 27-29
Philly Skate Jam (Formerly known as Philly Freedom
Skate)
A 3-day super fun festival of skating! Nearly 1000
skaters for this 6th annual event.
A 1/2 marathon race followed by sprint races
(Possibly up hill style) & 4 other guided fitness
skating activities. Team Drive of Philadelphia is
putting on the races. Team Drive members are hard-core
and very fast as proven at the North Shore Inline
Marathon 2002.
The 4 fun group skates are scenic, well guided and the
streets are closed off to traffic on each route.
Flat to hilly, some with excellent twisting turning
down hills. All are a good workout for 4 wheelers. Sag
wagon supported if you don't like hills. The event is
city supported and benefits a local family in need
program. Assuming 2003 is like 2002, several parties
with Philly style food provided by PSJ.
For an extended East Coast stay join me for a short
train ride and stay at the unique and scenic New
Jersey Shore (Good skating along the ocean front)
PSJ web page www.PhillySkateJam.org
Any questions just drop me a line.

MUST SEE TV - CHRYSTOPHER ON THE TONIGHT SHOW - TONIGHT, TUESDAY,
NOV. 19.
Hi skaters and others,
There are a lot of very unique and talented people in our world of
skating. If you have ever been to Venice Beach and skated at the
Dance Skate Plaza, then you have come in contact with Chrystopher. He
has been one of the driving forces in Venice that has had an enormous
impact on the dance skate scene on the West Coast. He has
participated in the 2000 S.F. to L.A.Skate Against Violence with his
stereo strapped to his back. He has been the prime example of
the "12 Volt D J" and even convinced Ned Roundtree of San Diego and
myself to dress up in drag for a performance called "Dancing Queens".
(It's on the CORA website)
Tonight, Chrystopher will be featured on the Tonight Show with Jay
Leno. He was recently featured on the show, "30 Seconds of Fame" on
FOX. He won $25,000.00 on that show and will return for a grand
championship show later. He will perform tonight and you do not want
to miss it.
DON'T MISS THE SHOW AND SPREAD THE WORD!!!!!!

P.S. - I believe Chrystopher will be at the USARS Congress and Expo
in Dec.

I have looked up pumpkins on the Sacramento Skating website (http://www.fortunecity.com/marina/anchor/288/).
In 1999 we skated past 53 hand-carved pumpkins at 2400 Marshall Street, a location we reached by skating south on 24th Street. This was a beautiful display of artistic carving, which you would have to see to fully appreciate. In subsequent years we missed these pumpkins, which are mainly displayed on Halloween.
This Halloween we can skate to these pumpkins and other locations. Please join me at 3rd and S Streets at 7:00 p.m. for this special Halloween skate. If you can, wear a costume.

Sacramento is a great place for skating. Many of the sidewalks and
the streets have good skating. About the only places that forbid
skating are the malls, such as the K Street Mall. Plus, there is the
American River Parkway, and several skateable river levees. And,
there are several skating rinks. Just put on your skates and skate!
I recommend the Monday Night Skate. Not only is there a variety of
skating, but there is also a warm and supportive group of fellow
skaters.
Time: Mondays, 7:00 p.m. Every Monday for the last 3 years,
except when it rained.
Place: Corner of 3rd and S Streets in downtown Sacramento.
Price: Free.
More information about all of the above is available at the
Sacramento Skating website:

Fellow Sacramento Skating Email Group Members,
So far I have not done much web work in Flash, but I have done
Principles of Effective Living. This website is in Flash, and It
shows core principles of living that I have found to be helpful.
Now there is only one way to access this site:
First, go to the Sacramento Skating website:
http://www.fortunecity.com/marina/anchor/288/ .
Second, go to the Links page.
Third, from the Links page, select NonSkating Links.
Fourth, go to Principles of Effective Living (In Flash).
Here you will find some good principles and some beautiful photos. I
hope you like it. Whether you like or dislike this Flash website, I
appreciate your feedback.

Fellow Sacramento Skaters,
I am forwarding the note below from David Miles. It show that San
Francisco and the Friday Night Skate will be getting some televison
coverage. It would be nice if Sacramento and the Monday Night Skate
could also get such publicity. Let's try to make this happen.
Note from David Miles:
Hi Skaters,
I just got back from the Venice Beach Skaters' Showcase and I must
tell you it was one of the best ever!!!!! I will post the pics and
video, but not until after I get back from Burning Man.
There will be a Japanese television crew doing a story about San
Francisco and the Friday Night Skate. They are based in New York
City and currently working on a series of one-hour travel documentary
that features interesting cities of the world every week. The show is
aired every week in Japan through NHK, the public television station
of Japan. Their previous projects in the U. S. took place in New
York, Seattle, Salt Lake City, New Orleans, and Miami.
For their next project they are going to feature San Francisco. They
would like to introduce Friday Night Skate as one of the interesting
activities in San Francisco. The crew is a party of 6 people
including a reporter. They would like to participate the event on
September 20th.
Before videoshooting, the director and the producer are coming to San
Francisco from September 6th to the 8th to see the locations. Come on
out and let's show them what the FNS is all about.

Fellow Sacramento Skating Email Group Members,
Recently Chris Eleveld told me about a promotional tool he had seen
in Manhattan. The skating website had promotional flyers that anyone
could print and distribute to help promote the weekly skate. I have
implemented this idea at Sacramento Skating:
(http://www.fortunecity.com/marina/anchor/288/). Several National
Skate Patrol members, including Daedre Inger, have helped me improve
the promotional flyer. Now I am announcing that it is available for
use.
To print and use these flyers:
1. Search for or go directly to "Sacramento Skating":
http://www.fortunecity.com/marina/anchor/288/.
2. Click on "Monday Night Skate".
3. Click on "Flyer to help promote the Monday Night Skate".
4. Print and distribute as many flyers as you want.
a. Refreshing screen before printing will usually get rid of
banner ad.
b. You can fold these 1 page flyers, if you want.
5. Please give me feedback as you use these promotional flyers.

second
rest stop

Re: Principles of Effective Living website in Flash - 3 Ways to Access
Fellow Sacramento Skating Email Group Members,
Sometimes Fortune City does not allow direct linking to its pages
from competing web-hosting companies. This easy, direct link may not
always work:
http://www.fortunecity.com/marina/anchor/288/principles_of_effective_l
iving6.swf
One alternative is to first go to the home page of Sacramento Skating:
http://www.fortunecity.com/marina/anchor/288/
From the home page, click on Links.
Next select NonSkating Links.
Then click on Effective Living Principles.
Another alternatvie is to go to another hosting site:
http://power.arc.losrios.cc.ca.us/~scovilb/principles_of_effective_liv
ing_principles6.swf.
I am sorry that there has been access difficulty. Having the above 3
approaches should help.

Fellow Sacramento Skating Emil Group members,
Karen Weber is correct. I misspelled the word "principles" (left
out the "n") in your link below. The correct spelling for the link is:
http://www.fortunecity.com/marina/anchor/288/principles_of_effective_l
iving6.swf
(Just one more proof: Things don't work if you get your principles
wrong.) ;< )
Karen liked the site, and she wanted to know how long did it took to
put it together.
I have been taking digital photographs for over two years. Having a
library of photographs helped me. I have been building web pages for
over 3 years. I have been studying Flash since January. I have
worked about a month off and on on this site - about 90 hours. I am
slow with Flash.
Karen, thanks for your interest and your help!

Subject: Great Deal on Salomon Skates
I was contacted the other day by someone that has acquired a whole lot
of brand new Salomon skates. Quite a few are the "pre-K2 patent"
skates that are in VERY high demand because of their comfort.
I built him a webpage and am posting to you, all my skating friends.
These are some of the last available that I know about and are at a
great price. I would recommend ordering ASAP. I am not making any
money on this, just doing it as a favor, since I know how much in
demand these skates are!!!
Quantities are limited....but if you are looking for skates ... THESE
ARE A STEAL!!!!!!!!!!
Do you want the link??
Do Ya????

I have been contacting Fortune City trying to fix this problem.

Has anyone else noticed that the repaving of the trail was done with a
type of asphalt that is not skate-friendly? After all the effort that
we put into legalizing skating on the trail, the rough texture of this
new surface makes it all seem like such a waste.
If I am just being a whiner, so be it, but my skates are thrashed.
I want to thank the 3 of us that are in this group for being pioneers
and helping to get this service started.
All of us can use this service to communicate about skating in
Sacramento. I myself plan to only write when I have something to say.
Our 2001 Christmas skate will be on Monday, December 10, at 7:00 p.m.
at 3rd and S Streets. If we get rained out, our Christmas skate will
be on Monday, December 17, at 7:00 p.m. As in the past, it will be
fun to skate and see Sacramento's Christmas decorations.
I am revising the Sacramento Skating website. I guess I am about
half way through this revision. To see the proposed new website,
please visit:

greatly value your feed back.
