Yes it is why do you ask? lol

I am supporting this martial artist efforts. I admit that I receive some
compensation for my time, however I also offer several free services to help our
martial arts brothers and sisters share their art, regardless of whether they
can afford to work for free or prefer to treat their martial arts as a business,
either because they feel their blood, sweat and years of financial investment is
worth something or out of necessity to feed their own families, I believe all
martial artists efforts to share their art should be supported by our fellow
martial artists.

For those wondering about any of my groups or forums I fully support my martial
arts brothers and sisters promotional efforts. No one ever need be concerned
about anyone complaining about something not being free or what seems to be a
bad compound word self-promotion.

I invite all martial artists who have something to share regardless of price to
any of my groups or forums. I believe this group is also one of those, in my
experience, which supports our fellow martial artists

Hi Rick sensei and All,

Thanks for all of your emails. But is this the forum to advertise every time
selling a new book or article?

Just wondering about the etiquette.

Thanks,

Interview with Sensei Ron Quaranta, Creator of Budo Nutrition for Martial
Artists and MMA Fighters

What
we did specifically was to research the vitamins and nutrients needed
to meet the physical and mental requirements for martial artists and
MMA enthusiasts. Working in conjunction with a scientific development
team, a select group of these vitamins and nutrients were chosen that
represent the best combination for muscle recovery, flexibility, joint
health and mental focus....

Hi Paul,

Well I am not an Okinawan Karateka per sae so What I have to say may not be
relevant. I may however be somewhat relevant as the style you study is an
okinawan Derivative of White Crane as is what I do. Although it seems very
different to some, prior to the Pan family there weren't really standardized
White Crane forms. So Okinawa was effected by two different waves of White crane
thought (if you will) that transferred during the period of the early five
hero's and that of the Pan family and after. Prior to the Heavy influence of the
Pan family of Yong Chun (wing Chun Village) Crane was expressed emphysizing
concepts via a group of specific techniques alongside old Shaolin forms (which
in some case look like "Shorin" at later periods these techniques we added
directly into the forms of shoalin and the Embusen altered to reflect the
concepts....this expression is seen more in what some call Naha-te.

In terms of what we do...we have an an alphabet form (if you will) sort of like
a Goju Sanchin but since it is of the Early heros' period it evolved in Guandong
without the initial imput of Saam Chien of the Fujien methods). This teaches the
basic techniques which are in effect merely physical manefestations of the more
important concepts. The student learns Proper Skeletal Alignment...and in some
schools the hand movesments of the stationary posture point to 43 vitals as they
run through the sequence.

Next is form number two..it teaches the student to maintain the structure
previously learned and how to move it while maintaining it so leverage rather
then strength is emphsized. This is not to say that it does not have deeper
levels in itself in regard to striking vitals, Kum Na, etc...

our third form is a continuation in conceptual information of the earlier
two...only it has some additional aspects which teach how to add a turbo
charging effect (if you will) to the structural idea. This will be old news to
Kishaba type Karate ka but it too comes from White crane and is seen
predominently in the shaking family. This form for use also teaches a host of
"oh Crap" scenerio's for when the standard strategy goes wrong.

All of these are tested on our wooden post...or a Kakiya to some old Okinawan
Lines. If memory serves you can see some pictures on one on the wonderful
website of Mario McKenna. The Picture he has on their of the Okinawan kakiya is
Identical to the post used in Many Old school early hero's period Wooden Men
(Dummy).

For use we progress to weapons...most chinese sets also include weapons. The
movements during which in many many sequences can be aplied ampty handed. It
serves to teach additional footwork especially when empty handed against weapon
when no choice is available and for Kum Na (seize and Control or Chin Na in
Manderin if you prefer). This was also a prominent part in Sokon Sensei's art
(as I understand it from Ernie Estrda Sensei in the chinese sense as well,
though not all seemed to have learned it.

Best Wishes,

Tom

Hi Group,

In our style of Shorin Ryu Matsumura Seito under Akamine Yoshimatsu sensei of
the Hozon Kai we have 5 levels of kata (prearranged forms).

For the most part they are:

Level 1: Pinan Kata - for balance work, basics, and basic defense
Level 2: Naihanchi Kata - for stance work and in-close fighting
Level 3: Passai Kata - for situational defense training
Level 4: Rohai/Chinto Kata - for balance work and tai sabaki (body change) work
Level 5: Gojushiho/Kusanku Kata - for situational defense and attack training

How does your kata study break down?

Any thoughts?

Paul
