Grandmaster Vohra's Academy International School of Martial Arts United
Kingdom Headquarters Seminars
President Grandmaster S.S. Vohra 7th Dan Kukkiwon Taekwondo 8th Dan Kung Fu
of Grandmaster Vohra's Academy International School of Martial Arts United
Kingdom Headquarters, Nottingham has just returned from a seminar trip to
Denmark from the 14th to 17th November 2006, where he has been teaching
stretching and kicking techniques to members of the Danish Dai Ki Haku
organisation. Shihan Kurt Orum is the founder of Dai Ki Haku close combat.
An efficient Danish street fighting style, which includes spiritual - and
body consciousness and self- realization which can be checked out at
www.daikihaku.dk
Returning to the U.K. he was accompanied by South African martial arts
instructors, Kaicho Hoosain Narker Ashihara Karate International Director
and Mr. Hans-Erik Petermann, who had also been teaching in Denmark from the
9th to 17th November 2006. They then stayed in Nottingham as their base
from 17th to 22nd November conducting seminars which were very well received
by all participants.
A meeting was also held with Publisher/Managing Director Paul Clifton of
numerous Martial Arts magazines to discuss future developments and seminars.
Both Narker and Petermann have written for International magazines, and
having been avid readers of Traditional Karate and Combat magazines, it was
an opportunity not to be missed. They also met with Alfredo Tucci,
publisher of Budo International and his friend Colonel Sanchis, founder of
Jukaido who was interested in publishing articles by them and for them to do
a video series. Then Kaicho Hoosain Narker and Mr. Hans-Erik Petermann
continued their tour to Holland, Belgium and Germany. Returning to Cape
Town, South Africa on 27th November 2006
Kaicho Hoosain Narker was one of the first instructors to be certified by
the late Kancho Ashihara as a branch chief. Since starting his martial arts
career in 1974, he has trained in many systems, obtaining ranking dan's in
Kyokushin Karate, Goju Ryu Karate and Taekwondo. He became a full time
instructor in 1985 after a stint as a school teacher. Due to the request of
many of the senior instructors in Ashihara Karate, he formed Ashihara Karate
International in 1993 which is now represented in 38 countries. As the
Director of the organisation, he travels extensively to member countries
teaching seminars. He spent six months in the USA during 1999-2000, visiting
40 of the US States, travelling a total of 48 000 miles, simply to propagate
his system. A book on that tour will be released early in 2007.
His seminars in Denmark and Nottingham focussed on the use of Sabaki evasive
body movement and power generation in punching and kicking techniques.
Sabaki as utilised in Ashihara Karate, is a concept of control which
combines defence and offence into one. Narker as a University accredited
sports coach also spoke about Plyometrics and its use in Ashihara Karate to
develop explosive power and speed. See www.ashiharakarate.org for further
details.
Erik Petermann has been a student of the Martial Arts since 1970 and has
spent many years working on nightclub doors in the harbour area of Cape
Town. He holds instructor level ranking in several martial arts. Erik is the
author of two books, one on Ju Jutsu and another on Thai Massage (published
by New Holland). He teaches Ju Jutsu and the South African knife combat
system "Piper".
Piper Knife is an offence-oriented blade system developed over the last
hundred years by the criminals of Cape Town. In this it is perhaps similar
to Capoeira as it was practised a hundred years ago, when it was used by the
street gangs of Rio de Janeiro. Its techniques are responsible for deaths on
a weekly basis in the Cape Flats area of Cape Town. Erik Petermann is one of
the few "master guardian" instructors qualified to teach this method by the
man who first systemised this method, Nigel February.
Due to the enthusiastic response of the seminar participants, Grandmaster
Vohra will be inviting both instructors for future seminars. Grandmaster
Vohra will also be visiting South Africa, USA, India and several other
countries to conduct promotion tests and seminars. GM Vohra is available for
seminars, gradings and demonstrations at home and abroad. For further
