The next SAFDA league will be a mixed league beginning on Wednesday the 15th of July. The league will run for 15 weeks, and a strict 4:3, offense decides format will be used.
The league will start as one division, but will be split into pools. After 3 weeks, the top performers in each pool will go into division 1 and the rest will go into division 2. The idea behind this is to provide a more level playing field for all teams. If at some point during the league one team is clearly in the wrong division, they may be moved or swapped with another team. I understand that this may mean some clubs do not have a team in division 1, but it also means those clubs will be able to develop without getting smashed every week. This format is dependent on the number of teams entered. We had 12 last year, and are expecting similar numbers next year. I’m also reserving the right to move teams around if it looks like they might be in the wrong division.
Unfortunately in South Australia we have a lot more guys than girls. In recognition of this, on Monday nights an open league will be running alongside a social league. The social league will be the introductory league and will not have a fixed ratio. We really need to build this league up as it is our best way to recruit new players in a friendly and relaxed environment. The open league will primarily be for those that could not find a mixed teams, although there will be no hard rule about who can play and who can’t.
If you have any questions or comments, feel free to email me.
The AFDA registration pages should be done by the end of the week, but for now, can everyone start getting their teams together.
