Thank you for the welcome. I can't wait to come out to play, but unfortunately I have to until Monday, April 24 as I have dinner plans tomorrow and then will be in Vegas all next week for work and fun.
Anyway, sounds like the perfect environment to get back into shape...
See you soon.

Hi Jason,
Welcome to our humble ultimate group. I don’t know if you have been out to
our game yet, but it’s a little different from what you are probably accustomed to.
We are VERY casual. We only recently have begun implementing sidelines and bricks on a test basis. We are working on developing simple strategies such as forcing, stacks, and even zone defenses. It all depends on who shows up.
We play Mondays and Wednesdays from roughly 7:30 until 9:00. I hope to see you tomorrow as your previous experience will be a welcome addition to our group.

Well our poll worked and didn't work. lol We at least know now that
our group is split between those who want one night of sidelines and
those who want sidelines both nights.
We will work it out tonight with everyone that shows up. I think
going forward what we will do is have a similar poll each month to
get the current groups wishes. The group changes allot in 6 months
(like complete turnover)... So each month lets just poll it and see
how folks want to play... but for tonight lets just discuss it on
the field since we had a tie.
See yall there Ac Steere 7:30

I also think this is a good discussion. My concern is that when
someone does get thier feelings hurt or think someone is lecturing,
the best way to end the behavior is to tell that person when that
happens so they know to stop. I also want to address that I
understand that I'm the interloper here, I tried to be very up front
with my intentions to play the groups game and nothing else, and
people I've encouraged to come to play, I explaind that they should
expect to follow the established game the group has agreed to play.
I will be honest, when the majority of regular players began to
evolve into using sidelines and other rules I was about to pee my
pants, Because I love ULTIMATE, and to see that everyone else seemed
to not mind the changes, I did feel at home.
I agree that all levels of players need to be played and included in
working the disk, If someone wants to handle or thinks they are
being ignored, I again think the solution is for that person to say
they want the disk, and I don't think anyone here would not look for
them. I also don't remember any games where everyone has not
handled.
I have enjoyed playing every time I've been out, and have nothing
but positive words for everyone I've met and played with. I have
probaply talked negitive between points, but have not intended to
belittle any one but my own playing. If I have lectured to anyone ,
please let me know, I like to talk Ultimate as much as play it. I am
also a big boy and can take it if you tell me to shut up, and it
won't hurt my feelings.
My only hope is that we continue to play with a disk, on a field,
and have fun. Lines, rules, cones, or with out, I don't care. And
encourage people who have somthing that makes them not want to play
address it on the field and move on, I think most of us can take it,
and then there are no bad feelings carrried on, and players quit
comming.
Again I want to say this is not trash talking, I only want to
express my enjoyment playing with this group, and try to find a way
to help it continue to thrive and be fun for everyone, And as
Markham said not everyone will be happy all the time. But I willbe
happy to play anytime, any rules, with anyone.
Later,
Andy

I think what I see from everyone is they are flexible and are
willing to change to meet the needs of our fellow players.
That being said I think Becca made some excellent points. Everyone
there should have fun. We need to keep that at the heart of our
game. This is a casual co-ed pickup game. So throw to everyone
that is open and don't lecture people who fail. It's just not what
our game is about. Thanks Becca for voicing that.
Cat has it right its all for fun. Save the competition for the

Chris thanks for the sacrifice. See even the hardcore guys want to

there feels like they are part of the game and are enjoying
themselves.

Being a split voter (one sidelines night one not), I like the game loose. However, anyone who has played with me knows that I am competative by nature. I actually tone it down quite a bit while I'm out there as to not offend people. I am all for competition. What I don't like is when things get so competative that some people aren't thrown the frisbee. What I don't like is getting a lecture from another teammate about what I need to fix. I've seen both of these happens, and it just makes me want to get in my car and leave. I know that for many people, this is a competative sport, but for others (me included) it is just fun exercise. I never plan on playing in a tournament or anything like that. I think the issue isn't about sidelines...it's about the general attitude of the game. I'm serious all day at work. I don't want to be serious with two hours of my leisure time. I want to have fun!

The poll results right now indicate 5 people are in favor of sidelines both nights and 2 are in favor of 1 night. Count me as part of the 5, but I'm not proud of it. Chances are, the 2 people who only want sidelines once per week will stop showing up if we play with sidelines both nights, and
then we're down 2 more people.
I enjoy playing with sidelines. I REALLY enjoy close, competitive games. There is one price that I am not willing to pay in order to have a ramped up game, and that's alienating so many people that we can't play anymore.
From talking to Andy, I have gained an appreciation that the Stoner game fell apart because certain members within that group began alienating other members. I would hate to see that happen here.
For me, the bottom line is that you can't please all of the people all of the time, but I'm in favor of pleasing as many people as possible as much as possible.

I really hope people wouldn't stop coming all together because of the
addition of sidelines. I just go out there to have fun and I am not
incredibly competitive (at least not with Ultimate, I am incredibly
competitive academically, heh), but I actually enjoyed playing with
sidelines more than without, and I voted for sidelines for both games
(although I really don't care that much--I just want to play!).
Anyhow, the only reason I didn't make it out this week is because I've
been having some back pain. I really hope I can get back into it soon
and no other medical problems come up :D

Howdy all,
Welcome to the Shreveport Ultimate Frisbee Pick-up Group. Hopefully
this will be a better way then emails for us to communicate.
I have added a few things to get it started. There is a database
where you can add contact information if you are interested in going
to tournaments.
Also there is a poll awaiting votes on our new sideline rule. Go in
there and voice your opinions.
There is also a links and pictures section so if you have any cool
ultimate photos or links please add some it's a bit shabby. ;)
Hope this thing works... I believe it will cause fi you want you
can still stay in touch by email alone through the messages being
forwarded to your inbox. But I for one prefer checking a
messageboard...
Spread the word give out our URL! :

Main reason we have Yahoo! group is in hopes it will help us gather
more people to play. On the odd chance someone searches Yahoo! sports
groups they will find us but most likely we will have to spread the
word.
Give anyone you think may be remotely interested in playing with us
this URL : http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/s_p_u/... or just
post it on a flyer somewhere "sporty". lol
They can go to that link and then join our group.
