Hey Lenora:
Good for you !! I just told Glenda the same thing... Life doesn't end with knee surgery. A guy I know did the United States two years ago, riding on two artificial knees (his were done three years ago). Riding bikes is almost better than walking, and keeping that Vanguard would be great post-operative therapy, approved and encouraged by many docs for this sort of thing. They may put her on a stationary recumbent for exercise anyhow, so why not use the real thing? If there's too much risk, then a good trike would be the next best solution. See: http://www.bicycleman.com/recumbents/trikes/sun/sun-ez-3-USX-recumbent-trike.htm
or

and there are other trikes out there, as well...
Blessings to all on this Memorial Day!
Geoff

You don't have to give up bike riding because of knee surgery. I had a knee replaced in March "03 and my husband and I rode a Ryan duplex around Lake Ontario in July "04. Yes, I was on the back of a tandem, but I pulled all the "gentle hills" on the southern side of the lake. The only one I gave up on was a steep one in Niagara Falls. You can do it! Lenora
