Felix (and list),

It was nice having you join in. I did see where the 3 of you
went off course (was about 100 steps behind, waiting for
slower runners on a twisty switchback descent that is as
confusing to me as anyone else, despite my having run at
Watchung for 14 or so years).

I personally would like to see more inter-club stuff like this.

If there are any more adventure runs, I hope we can keep
the door open to other clubs and non-members.

Errors were made in computation of the age group awards placing for the summer series.

The documents published earlier on the RVRR web site, here at the yahoo group, and mailed home to members have been corrected.

PLEASE READ THE ATTCHED PDF, or access the corrections at http://rvrr.org

Don't forget the awards picnic on August 12th!

As we know, the military is desperately looking for even more recruits. The NAvy Seals are recruiting around the countries colleges and doing a promo thing called the "Trident Challenge", or administering their entrance physical to the general public. This intrigued me because I was curious to see the rigor of the entrance exam.  Except maybe for the swimming, I probably can come close to the "Competitive" level and I'm 45!  OK, I a little old and a little to much of a pacifist to join the military. What is scarey is that is the physical test for elite military is a comment on the state of fitness on the US. How many 17-25 year olds can't attain the "Standard" level.  I know I probably couldn't at that age.

I heard about this on NPR and if I got the story correct (static while driving), a 50 year old woman triathlon-er surpassed the "Competitive" level. Its a shame the site doesn't break down results for all age groups.

Here is an interesting concept I ran across in a
travel website: running tours of cities. I guess it
combines a 'walking tour' with a runner's desire to
get out and sight-see plus get a run in. It seems to
be successful since they are expanding the cities
where it is done. I wonder how they account for
different paces.

hey everyone !

i LOVE that this is listed as edison area.
i've done the "step one" of CJRRC about a year or two ago
and that was WAY TOO BASIC for me.

now that my work schedule is less hectic ( was working 9-9 days ! )
i'm DEFINATELY looking to find some people to run with.
i was very competitive in college and even afterwards.
i've been in the US for about 3 1/2 years now and WOW...
that 60% obese issue can catch up with you !! ( no worries, nothing
MORBID. haha )

so... i'm looking to unleash that burning competitive
edge that's still brewing within me but i need a club/people/support
network of fellow runners at this point.
i've done 5k, 10k, 1/2 marathons, and trained for a marathon but was
not able to run in it due to rediculous mismanagement of entry forms !

i would really, really like to get back to breathing from my the pit of
my stomach... that deep, clean oxygen rush that i miss.

also, i read something about XC runs??? my LORD !!! sign me up NOW !!

so... can anyone respond to this posting and give me a head's up?
i'm way excited to start running again but i don't know anyone that
runs.

Looking forward to hearing from you all !!

Thanks.  yes, i looked on the website and saw that information.  unfortunately can't do Saturdays ( well, only once a month starting next month ) because i have to work.

Do you have any slower runners?? I'd just HATE to be dragging so far behind.
See, yeah, I gained some weight but it's enough that I can work with it... but still... it's
an extra 30 lbs.  I know your group is quite competitive.  I LOVE that !  But I just don't want to seem like the  "fat slow one"... although i'm not "fat" in the traditional sense of the word.

Okay... enough woman talk.
Thanks for your email.

Michelle,

Some are competitive, some are "slower".  We have people at Wednesday night runs that run under 7 minutes per mile through about 12 minutes per mile.

The run is out-and-back (until September), so even if you drag behind you can turn around and put yourself in front!

Hope to see you there sometime soon.

Michelle,

Yes, there are competitive runners in the club BUT, there are normal people who run too in the club.  I have been trying to get some 9 minute mile or greater runners together for Saturday runs. It seems that everyone (slower ones that is) feels they aren't good enough, fast enough, thin enough, or what ever. I just don't get it. I am recovering from a injury and for the time being I run 10 minute miles.  You know what, I bet any of the faster runners couldn't handle my job or have the talents that I get paid for.  All I want to do is get some good exersize and maybe get to see some people on Saturday morning. So what if almost everyone else is faster. I do what I do and its motivating to meet everybody at 6:30 pm on Wednesdays and 8:00 am on Saturdays.

In that post, at least to my read - though it may not be intentional on his part - Bill is sounding very negative about his abilities.  In my opinion, though he is a relatively "new" runner, he has come along amazingly quickly.  He has added mileage, done races, and is working through little injuries that all improving runners tend to come across.  In the spring, before the current injury, he was thinking half-marathon this fall.  For some of us "seasoned" runners, he injects enthusiasm for this sport that we may have come to take for granted.

ROFL. Close is relative, so you have lots of leeway. Very politically
stated. :)

I think it'd be pretty impressive to meet the "standard" level - 42.

I could probably do 15-20 before falling flat on my face. Situps,

Michelle,

Hi, I'm new to the club too and a fairly new "competitive"runner. I've
done a few wednesday night runs with the group (it's great) but i
acquired one of those dreaded runners injury (stress fracture on my
forefoot)that has left me on the sidelines for about a month now. I
will start running again this wednesday.(hopefully) I am one of the
slow ones (pace is about 10m)I will probably run even much slower as i
haven't run in a month or so and i have to take it easy, so as not to
re-injure myself again. I'm actually not supposed to be running for
another two weeks as per my orthopedic doctor, but my foot feels ok and
i'm
dying to get back out there.
If you come, we can run slow together.....I'm planning on doing a 1/2
marathon soon and need to get back in the groove.
hope to see you there & i do hope to be there also.

I have on occasion spelled something incorrectly. Don't feel badly. There's always one person that feels the need to correct us. And sometimes it surprises us who it is. Funny attempts in anemail doesn't always translate well.

Funny you should bring that up - we will be opening nominations at our next General Membership Meeting on September 19th.
