Hi All,
Next Sunday (June 2nd) Jane and I are going to Valley Forge
to do some running and orienteering and picnicking. In case you've
never been, Valley Forge offers some of the nicest running around, and
is much favoured by those nippy Kenyans you might have (briefly) seen at
the head of various money races. There's some historical stuff too :-)
A five mile paved trail takes you round most of the park's historical
attractions, and the orienteering event gets you into the woods. Do come
and join us, from 10:30 a.m.

Come and join the fun!
I just posted about 27 Midland Run 2002 photos sent to me by Phil
McGoff. They are great. The Yahoo! group site even lets you order
prints of them, I believe. They will also be on the web site ASAP.
It all makes sense to me now. Why didn't I see it before? It
baffled people why everything was just left in her apartment as if
she just disappeared. Now it is obvious. Chandra went out for a
run. She thought she was going to be back in an hour or so. She
either got attacked or died out in the woods. I really feel for her
now. Did anyone ever think that she was a runner? She even looked
for a new adventure run on her computer before taking off.
Some pastes from the AP article http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?
tmpl=story&cid=519&519&e=1&u=/ap/20020522/ap_on_re_us/body_found :
Levy, 24, of Modesto, Calif., disappeared sometime after logging off
her computer about 1 p.m. on May 1, 2001. When police searched her
apartment they found her wallet, credit card, computer and cell
phone. Only her keys were missing.
Police had found evidence last year on Levy's laptop computer that
she had searched a Web site for the park's Klingle Mansion on the day
she vanished.
On Wednesday, bones, a jogging bra, tennis shoes and other items were
found about a mile north of the mansion and about four miles away
from Levy's apartment. Friends had said she frequented the park,
located in northwest Washington.

From an email:
Hello to all - I hope that I am reaching those club people who work on the
running calendar in your club newsletter. If not, please pass this along.
The Morris County Striders Summer Series races are being cancelled. They were
to have been held at Picatinny Arsenal but due to heightened security we are not
able to use the Arsenal. We had been searching for an alternative site but we
have not found it and have run out of time. Look for us next year if the
situation improves at Picatinny.
The dates were:
Tuesdays - June 18, July 2, July 16, July 30, August 13.
We will be holding the the Saturday, September 14th, Run for Life at 10:00 a.m.,
However, due to the change in location it will now be a 5K.
The location will be Boonton, not Rockaway. All else will remain the same,
including the free post race beer and pizza. Look for a preliminary application
at the Midland Run.
Thanks for your help.

This time it was the Rockers, Kathy and Carl and Chris Weiland on the course on May 5th at the Sunrise Run-Bike-Run at Long Branch. In spite of not feeling well Kathy took 12th place overall in the woman's race with at time of 1:36:41 and Carl, coincidentally, took 12th place in the mens, 1:22:05. Chris took 2nd overall with a time of 1:15:52.
Nice job!

This presentation last night at the Rutgers Labor Education Center
was part of the Nike Corporate Accountability Campaign organized by
the group Educating for Justice. The slide show, play-acting and
lecture gave a powerful and disturbing description of the lives of
Nike factory workers in Indonesia. Nike was targeted specifically
because they have 40% of the sports apparel market and what they do
is followed by all the other companies. When Nike sets a price for an
item it impacts the wages and lifestyle of workers in all the
sweatshops. That's if you can call it a lifestyle. It isn't pleasant.
You can see what I'm talking about at www.nikewages.org
I don't think I can buy Nike products anymore...
Myrna ran an incredible race at Boston today. Her chip time of
3:05:35 (7:09 pace)puts her at 88th woman and is a 2:15 PR! An
awesome performance considering she hasn't trained much and has been
sick for the past several weeks.
Just a reminder for the Track workouts
on May 21st and May 28th. There will
be a very limited turnout for these
workouts as they are immediately
following 2 high level races in "Midland
and Ridgewood" Most people will
NOT be doing intervals those days
and some people may want to take
a vacation from the track for those
2 weeks before bouncing back in
full force afterwards in June. We
all need a break now and then and
we intend to have a great Summer
of Track training to ready everyone
for the Fall. Racing season is light
in the summer and training should
be in High Gear.
