I have probably said more than I should have, but whatever. I do not know the
marathon or 15K course, but the location that I have heard for the wholeevent
makes it sound as though the current course would not be used in any way. That
is certianly not definitive, since it is secondhand, tentative info.
I know nothing about the marathon course and will continue to avoid any
knowledge or anything to do with an y marathon!!!!! :-)
The thought about the Midland Run was that it needed to be "refreshed". The
organizers and race director (an RVRR member!) felt as though interest were
declining, and if they had not done something, it would continue to decline.
One thing that was observed and brought up at the USATF LDR meeting (shame on
you all for not being there!) last night was that the fields were virtually
deserted not long after the race was done. That is not the way it used to be.
You would have to go back and look at the number of 15K finishers ove rhte past
8 years or so to deterime if there has been a serious decline. In the past few
years the numbers are not that bad, but I am not on the race committee which is
clearly looking for something different. I am with you - I lament the loss of
the course. I have a hate/hate relationship (I hate it and it hates me!) with
that course and will miss the challenge, if it in fact is no longer to be used.
Sorry I can't tell you more.

>Can you give us any more details than this?? Like, is any of the 15k the same??
Is the marathon on paved or dirt roads?? Is it planned as an out and back, a
multiloop course or a point to point?? Why was there a need to mess with success
anyway?? Charlie

start/finish of the 15K. Also, proposed start time is VERY early, in the 7:00 -
7:30 range, from what I remember. Also, note that the 15K, once the premier
distance event in New Jersey, is now as also-ran. That's disappointing as is the
high probablity that we have seen the last of the current course. The
start/finsih location will be moved to a different town altogether due to the
race's inability to get clearance for the marathon to cross some corporate
property near the current location.
