Rutgers Extends its Lead in Collegiate ‘Cross Series
Following the success of its undefeated football team, the Rutgers
University Cycling Team extended its conference lead this weekend in the
inaugural season of the Eastern Collegiate Cycling Conference’s
Cyclocross Series. Saturday’s racing saw the team in action at NECCS
series race Chainbiter 8.0 in Farmington, CT where they took the
Division 1 team overall amid fierce New England competition. Sunday saw
the team in action closer to home at Penn State’s Nittany Lion ‘Cross on
the Lehigh Valley campus of Penn State University. In the collegiate
men’s category, Upenn rider Robert Sprague took the win, but Rutgers
rounded out the top 4 with Mark Vareschi taking 2nd, Charles Florek 3rd,
and Don Yungher 4th to take 1st in the team overall competition.
The ECCC Cyclocross Series continues next weekend with the ECCC Easterns
on the campus of UNH in Durham, NH on Saturday and the HPCX in
Jamesburg, NJ on Sunday.
