I just wanted to remind you about our upcoming LungStrong 15K - 5K Run/Walk & Family Fun day coming up on October 18th at Raceworld USA in Lake Norman, NC. This is an awesome event that was created to raise awareness for Lung Cancer. As many of you know, I lost my Dad last year to Lung Cancer and this is my way of honoring and remembering him. Last year this was a 5K race and we had over 600 people register and raised about $70,000 for Lung cancer Research. This year we are trying to double those numbers. I hope that you guys can join me either by running/walking on my RunStrong team or by Volunteering on race day!
There will be Live Music, Inflatables, Food and a 1 mile fun run!! Visit www.lungstrong.com for more details.
As many of you know my dad passed away (Memorial) a few months ago after a 6 month battle with Lung Cancer. I have been looking for a way to honor him and at the same time increase awareness of this horrific disease. Did you know thatLung cancer kills more Americans each year than breast, prostate, colorectal, and pancreatic cancers combined? I've decided to establish an annual LUNGStrong 5K event presented by Skybrook Communities in Charlotte, NC. November is National Lung Cancer Awareness month so we are planning to have this event on November 17th 2007 at 9:00 am. I would be honored if you would circle this day on your calendar and come out and support the LUNGStrong 5K event and help raise Lung Cancer awareness in our community. All the money raised for this event will go to Lung Cancer research through the LUNGevity Foundation. Since its inception in November 2000, the Foundation has committed to co-funding more than $3.4M in innovative Lung Cancer Research Projects at the foremost cancer programs in America. The LUNGevity Foundation partners with the American Cancer Society- Illinois Chapter, American Lung Association, American Thoracic Society, Goldman Philanthropic Partnerships, and The CHEST Foundation (the philanthropic arm of the American College of Chest Physicians) to make its research awards.
LUNGevity Foundation is a 501(c) (3) organization.
We are going to need runners, walkers, volunteers and sponsors to make this event an annual success. My hope is that we establish the LUNGStrong 5K as one of the leading fundraising events for Lung Cancer Research in the nation and with your help I truly believe it will be. Please take a moment and visit the website www.lungstrong.com and let me know your thoughts and interest. I hope that you will come out on November 17th and join me and the other participants; including lung cancer survivors, people living with lung cancer, family, friends, and others touched in some way by this disease. Please forward this email to anyone you think might be interested. Thank you!

Hi Sara,
Thanks for the introduction. Yes this is a very diverse running group. We have folks walking, running, and some doing a combo of both. Some of us are planning on running a 5K coming up on April 28th.

Hey everyone. I am new to the area and am
looking forward to meeting new people. I ran cross-country in high school and would like to get back into it. Unfortunately I am not in as good of shape as i was 7 years ago. I am hoping this is a diverse running group...ie there is a lower running group :) I am hoping to find the motivation and support to get back into running like i was once was. I hope to see everyone soon

A group of us meet in the Highland Creek area of North Charlotte. Let me know if you are interested. I would also like to organize a few runs on the Greenway.

I would very much like to know of any runners in the area of Sunset and Beatties Ford Road. Please contact me.
I'm right there with you Marie! When it is pouring down rain like Tuesday the best place to be is in a coffee shop!!! I ran 9 miles last night, Wednesday, and I'd have to agree that it would have been a lot nicer had it been about 60 degrees or so.

Love this cool weather, so much easier for me to breathe! Ran this afternoon, Wednesday, and kept wishing it were 10 - 15 degrees cooler! Yesterday was just raining a

Do you enjoy this cooler running weather? Last night I was supposed to run 5 miles but because it was chilly and damp i chickened out. Anyone else doing the same thing??

Hockey is almost over?? It is just starting to get cold... Several people are doing upcoming marathons and 1/2 marathons so I am sure you'll be able to find someone to do some long runs with. I am doing a 1/2 in December and better start increasing my mileage too.
Take care and we look forward to seeing you at some group runs!

Is anyone in the group planning on running the Disney Half Marathon??
I am looking for a long run partner, the only problem, I am slow, very slow,, 11:00/mile. My goal is distance not speed.
Any interest let me know. . .
To Eddie, Hockey is almost over and I should be able to start running with the group!
