Italian football is in mourning after Treviso and Sampdoria midfielder Gionata Mingozzi was tragically killed in a car crash earlier this morning.
The talented 23-year-old was involved in a head-on collision between his Porsche and a lorry near Venice.
The crash took place at around 8am as the Ravenna native was on his way to undergo a medical ahead of pre-season training in Austria.
“It is with the deepest sorrow that we will mourn with his family, friends and all who have had the privilege of knowing him during his tragically short life,” a statement on the club’s website reads.
Mingozzi was co-owned by Sampdoria and made his Serie A debut with the Blucerchiati before spending the last two seasons with Lecce and Treviso in Serie B.
