NEWS & PROGRAMME - NOVEMBER 2009

Somehow we managed to completely dodge the rain at Dorney last Sunday. But as
the Norwegians say, there's no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong
clothes. When the rollerbladers in Hyde Park run for cover, the rollerskiers
are still standing.

Hope you can join us for training. There's still plenty going on, and with
winter on its way there's maybe no better time for the unique rollerski
balance-fitness-ski prep experience.

DORNEY
We have sessions at Dorney Lake on Sunday 22 November and Sunday 6 December.
We've 18 booked already for the Level 1 course on 22nd, but a few places are
still available for both Level 1 / Level 2 skiers. There's still plenty of
space on the 6 December course. See - http://rollerski.co.uk/events3.html

HYDE PARK COURSES
Our last 4-week course of the year begins on Saturday 21 November. It's classic
rollerskiing technique, see http://rollerski.co.uk/events1.html and quite a few
classic ski marathoners are going to be on this one.

We've also got the regular classes http://rollerski.co.uk/class.html and private
instruction http://rollerski.co.uk/instructprivate.html in Hyde Park, and the
club for training and progressing further, http://rollerski.co.uk/club.html

WESSEX RACE & 4-HOUR RACE RESULTS
Our Hyde Park skiers had a great time recently at the Wessex British Rollerski
Championships and the London 4-hour race. We had a team of 15 at the 4-hr race
and 21 at the Wessex Races, and had some pretty good results.

ON SNOW: OBERTILLIACH AND HOCHFILZEN
Our 2 trips to Austria in the New Year are filling up. The Obertilliach trip at
the start of January was full, but now has 2 spare spaces. The Hochfilzen trip
is about half full with lots of very fit beginners signed up.

Both trips offer first rate instruction with Alan Eason and his team, and give
the chance to take part in ski marathon races at the end of the week. For more
information, see http://rollerski.co.uk/cross.html

SKI MARATHON CALENDAR
We've finally updated the ski marathon calendar for 2009-10. If you'd like to
challenge yourself on snow, there are plenty of very good, accessible races out
there. See http://rollerski.co.uk/nf003.html

SKI + BOARD SHOW
We managed to get several hundred people (mainly kids) to try out rollerskiing
at the Ski + Board show in Birmingham last month. This was a great occasion -
we shared a stand with ski holiday company, Nordic Challenge, who laid on a
cross-country ski course on matting, complete with biathlon competition. Their
enthusiasm was hugely impressive, and if you want a more
instruction/coaching-based cross-country ski holiday, they are well worth
considering. See http://www.nordicchallenge.com

We also did a good job recruiting for the Midlands Ski Club, who have just
started Nordic / rollerski training in Solihull and at Draycote Water near
Rugby. For more info on this see - http://www.midlandski.org.uk/whatson.php

GOOD LUCK TO ROB
Rob Dorward - my teammate and number 1 training partner for the last year - is
heading off on Friday for a season of biathlon training and racing (biathlon is
cross-country skiing & shooting). Over the last year he's trained very hard and
deserves great success.

I think that's about it - if you have any news or information you think people
might find useful, there is the Facebook site which allows to discuss and post
anything vaguely relevant to skiing. I'd encourage you to use it for discussing
training, advertising 2nd had kit, etc here -

Best regards,
Iain
