Dear All,

In a few short weeks Eurosport's cross-country ski and biathlon coverage will be
in full flow. This allows a great chance to compare notes with the best skiers
in the world! Getting good 'visuals' of technique is invaluable in improving
your own technique.

With snow around the corner now, we wish you good luck with your training and
rollerskiing.

SKATING COURSE

Our last 4-week courses of 2007 begin this weekend. On Saturday we'll have two
skating groups at 11.30 – beginners and advanced.

I will be taking the beginners group and Alan Eason – just off the plane from
Australia, http://www.rollerski.co.uk/profilealan.html - will take the advanced
group. There are still a couple of spaces in both groups, and I'd encourage you
to sign up if you want to get to grips with the basics, or really improve your
technique and speed –

Booking and information at http://www.rollerski.co.uk/events2.html

SHORT ENGADIN OPTION

More news from the world of ski marathons. The Engadin Skimarathon has
introduced a shorter 21k option – everyone will start at the same place, but the
21k-ers will finish half way. If you enter the 42k race, you can decide on the
day to do the 21k race and your time will be recorded in the 21k results.

The Ski Marathon calendar is at http://www.rollerski.co.uk/nf003.html

DORNEY COURSE

Our next Dorney course is on Sunday 18 November. I will be taking the beginners
group, and Alan Eason will be taking the advanced group. The course is £55
(using our equipment) or £45 (using your own equipment).

For booking details see – http://www.rollerski.co.uk/events3.html

SNOW AT BRUKSVALLARNA

Always good to see early season snow – it's arrived in Bruksvallarna, Sweden,
just across the border from Roros, Norway (and a former favourite of Snowsport
England).

GLUEHWEIN ROLLERSKI TOUR OF RICHMOND PARK

One of the highlights of the rollerski year is the annual London Richmond Park
Gluehwein Tour. Admittedly, the idea of combining alcohol (+ mince pies) with
rollerskiing seems a bit mad. When you're actually doing it though, in good
company (both human and deer), guided by stars and light pollution, it seems
very right.

The tour takes place on Saturday 1st December, meeting 7pm at Sheen Gate,
Richmond Park. Mulled wine and mince pies will be provided by the London Region
Nordic Ski Club, and you may be invited to join the club afterwards! All
competent rollerskiers are welcome and lights and helmets are essential. Ski
hire is available.

The nearest station is Mortlake (on Richmond line from Waterloo) and the map is
-

SUCCESS AT WESSEX RACES

The Wessex Biathlon & Nordic Ski Club had a very successful inaugural race at
Castle Combe race circuit. Teams from London, Wessex, the Army and the RAF took
part. Winners in the mens team event were four Russians living in the London
Region. Although full results have yet to be made public, we would like to
congratulate the following rollerski regulars, who all won prizes –

Megan Lennard, Michael Lennard, Marne Salter, Glennis Dore, Kristian Callaghan,
Gemma Gaskell.

SKI GANGING

All are welcome to our weekly ski ganging session. Meet at 20 Brookfield,
Highgate West Hill, N6 6AS, 19.00, Tuesdays.

Dear All,

Lots of exciting happenings in the world of cross-country skiing. The build-up
to the winter season continues, so read on for news from the UK rollerski scene,
links to some amazing pictures & training articles, and details of training and
courses coming up.

CLASSIC TRAINING COURSE, HYDE PARK

With a large number of decent classic skiers training for ski marathons
following recent courses, I've added a 6-wk classic evening group in Hyde Park.
This will run from next Wednesday until the end of November, with a focus on
training rather than technique.

For more information and to book click see -
http://www.rollerski.co.uk/events5.html

SKI GANGING ON HIGHGATE HILL

From now until the end of November, I'll be running a 'ski ganging' training
session on Highgate Hill - the longest in London - or Hampstead Heath. This is
basically running with poles, and gets your heart rate up like nothing else,
building fitness and aerobic capacity. Sessions will be at 7pm on Tuesday
evenings, meeting at my flat (20 Brookfield, Highgate West Hill, N6 6AS). I'll
provide poles, there is no charge, and everyone is welcome (whether skiers or
not).

DORNEY & CASTLE COMBE DATES

Courses coming up out of London include Castle Combe on 28th October -
http://www.rollerski.co.uk/events4.html

The next Dorney courses are on 18th November and 9th December - our last before
Christmas - http://www.rollerski.co.uk/events3.html

In November we'll have Classic and Skating courses in Hyde Park at the weekends,
some of which Alan Eason will do. http://www.rollerski.co.uk/events.html

SKI MARATHON CALENDAR 2007/8

I've come up with the definitive (?) Ski Marathon Calendar for 2007/8 - this
shows dates, distances and links to most of the world's ski marathons. To pick
one, see - http://www.rollerski.co.uk/nf003.html

RACING ROUNDUP

The Wessex Biathlon & Nordic Ski Club are gearing up for what promises to be the
most interesting rollerski race of the year - the Wessex and Army Rollerski
Sprints on 28th October. According to race organiser, Bob Anderson, timing
equipment is on its way from Germany, the Army are providing bibs and technical
assistance, and matched rollerskis are coming from Pro-Ski. Many of the Army
teams have entered, and the LRNSC has even entered a wholly Russian team!

In London this weekend, the 4-hr race takes place again at Hillingdon Cycle
Circuit, and is expected (as ever) to draw a large crowd of ski marathon
competitors. Anyone considering a long ski race this season should have a go at
this, as it will probably be the last chance to test yourself against others for
a longer race, before you get onto snow.

Race information (as well results from the GB Rollerski Race Series, won this
year by Mike Dixon and Fiona Crossley) is at
http://www.rollerski.co.uk/ns024.html

TRAINING ARTICLES AND PICTURES

Two excellent articles have turned up on the web, with some good pictures -

Good luck with training if you've read this far!

It's the time of the year when thoughts turn to winter sports and
holidays. With that in mind, I thought I'd make a few suggestions...

XC SKI MARATHONS

Why anyone does a running marathon when you could do a ski marathon I don't
know. These great races take you through some amazing scenery where you will
work just as hard (if not harder) than in a running marathon. Because the
impact on your joints is so low, chances are you'll be out skiing next day.

Also, because every year some people take part with virtually no preparation,
chances are you'll overtake a few racers (even if they are in the 90+ age
group!). These races are great fun and a great experience.

Each year over 100 Brits take part in the Engadin Ski Marathon in Switzerland,
and our rollerskiers have also taken part in the Vasaloppet (Sweden),
Birkebeiner & Skarverennet (Norway) and Koenig Ludwig Lauf (Germany) among
others.

To find a ski marathon, visit our ski marathon calendar -
http://www.rollerski.co.uk/nf003.html This is the 2007 calendar, but we'll
update it for 2008 when a few more dates are firmed up.

XC SKI HOLIDAYS

There's a huge range of cross-country ski holiday companies now operating,
offering more choice than ever. Whether you're a complete beginners looking to
get moving on snow, or a hardened veteran in search of a new challenge, there
are holidays to suit everyone.

Among the trips our rollerskiers have recommended most highly, are the Exodus
(formerly Waymark) trips to Kvitavatn and to Versiaco, both of which offer a bit
of instruction, and will push you to make the most of your time on snow.

We have more information on our website at
http://www.rollerski.co.uk/cross.html and if you book an Exodus holiday and
mention 'Rollerski' as the referring source when you book, you will get 25
off rollerski instruction or equipment.

Independent trips are now more possible than ever, especially for anyone who has
their own skis and knows how to use them. Cheap flights, and faster rail
connections this winter (Eurostar from St Pancras), give you plenty of choice.

POLAR CHALLENGE

For a more serious ski challenge, how about a race to the North Pole? The Polar
Challenge ( http://www.polar-challenge.com/ ) sees teams race for 350 miles in
temperatures as low as -50C, towing supplies in 120lb pulks, and skiing for a
good part of the journey.

The most competitive teams do a lot of training on rollerskis, and last year the
fastest womens' team ever, the Arctic Virgins, spent months training on
rollerskis with the Manchester Cross-Country Ski Club. A couple of weeks ago we
helped one of the 2008 teams, the Lost Penguins ( http://www.lostpenguins.com/
), get started on rollerskis and wish them the best of luck in their training!

ROLLERSKI RACING

OK, this isn't a winter sport as such, but like rollerskiing generally, it's a
good stepping stone towards your ultimate winter challenge - especially if
you're preparing for a race.

Coming up in late October are the 4-hr Rollerski Race, run by the London Nordic
Ski Club, (see http://www.londonnordic.org.uk ) and the Wessex Sprints, which is
a chance to test yourself against the best of the army's racers at Castle Combe
race track in Wiltshire (see http://www.wessexbiathlon.org ).

These are both well recommended, with an emphasis on friendly competition.

ROLLERSKI PREPARATION

The courses we have coming up will help your preparation this season, and we'd
encourage you to book up. We had a terrific turnout for our September courses,
and it's great to see such improvements -

Dorney Lake - Sunday 7th October - 1-day course
http://www.rollerski.co.uk/events3.html
Castle Combe - Sunday 28th October - 1 day course
http://www.rollerski.co.uk/events4.html

4-wk skating course - starts Saturday 13th October, Hyde Park -
http://www.rollerski.co.uk/events2.html

4-wk classic course - starts Sunday 22nd October, Hyde Park,
http://www.rollerski.co.uk/events1.html

I've added a few new comments to the comments page -
http://www.rollerski.co.uk/nr026.html

I'm afraid we've had to increase the cost of the Dorney course slightly more
than we'd have liked to - mostly because of additional charges from the Dorney
Lake Trust to use the facility.

But these courses are still good value at 55, and include a day's coaching,
all the best equipment and lunch! (Also, the Dorney Lake park is looking
beautiful this time of the year, with plenty of autumn colour).

DULWICH THE 'COOL' VENUE!

It's been suggested that I plug Dulwich as a good venue, by the gang I've been
teaching there. At the moment we're doing a weekday lesson there each week
(Tuesday morning), and I hope to add more sessions. It's a really good fun
group, and a lovely venue, 5 mins by bike from Herne Hill Station, Thameslink.

For details of class sessions at Dulwich, Dorney Lake, Hyde Park and Richmond
Park, see http://www.rollerski.co.uk/class.html

ROLLERSKI CLUB AUTUMN PROGRAMME

All proficient rollerskiers are invited to join -
http://www.rollerski.co.uk/clubprog.html

RETURN OF ALAN EASON

Alan Eason is on his way back from Australia soon, where they had a great season
of snow - one of the best in years. You can see his results from the Kangaroo
Hoppet (short) race at -

http://www.hoppet.com.au/

We look forward to Alan's return, and he'll be coaching some club sessions and
advanced courses.

Good luck planning your season and see you soon,

Best regards
Iain

Dear All

Hope you've had a good summer - I'm writing this from rural Northern Ireland
where snow and winter still seem far off.

But, with skiing in mind, and not letting the current weather put us off, we
have one of our fullest autumn programmes to date. 2007/8 will be our third
full season of rollerski instruction - and we hope to build on everything we've
learnt to date, to make it our best.

I'd encourage you to read on, and book early onto a course. We have 1-day
courses at Dorney Lake and Castle Combe, and 4-week courses in Hyde Park. Our
club sessions (which will be a year old next month) continue to grow in
popularity, especially with 'graduates' of our 4-week courses.

Finally, for turning rollerski skills into skiing on snow, we'd encourage you to
book one of the Exodus / Waymark courses featured on our website.

Read on for more...

COURSES COMING UP

We have a very strong line-up of courses this autumn. In September we have the
last of our evening courses in Hyde Park, with Level 2 courses for
intermediates, as well as beginners's sessions.

Courses include:
Sat 25th August - Les Parsons masterclass
Sun 26th August - Dorney 1-day course (Level 1 [nearly full] and Level 2)
Thu 6th Sept - 18.15 Hyde Park, Level 2 4-week skating rollerski course
Sat 8th Sept - 11.30 Hyde Park, 4-week skating rollerski course
Sun 9th Sept - Dorney 1-day course (Level 1)
Tue 11th Sept - 18.15 Hyde Park, 4-week classic course

For a full list of courses see -
http://www.rollerski.co.uk/events.html

CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING

This year, we are recommending ski weeks run by Exodus / Waymark, which fit best
with our rollerski programme. This saves the additional cost of flying us out
for a week, and their staff will provide excellent instruction.

You can see our recommendations at
http://www.rollerski.co.uk/cross.html

Additionally, if you book one of these trips (or any Exodus Winter Activity
Holiday) we will give you a £25pp reduction on rollerski instruction or
equipment (for you or your club).

We plan to offer a shorter 3-day preparation course before a couple of the ski
marathons (at the moment we are considering the Engadin and Koenig Ludwig Lauf
races). More details to follow on this.

LES PARSONS

We're still hoping for a good turnout for our special guest coach Les Parsons.
It looks like there'll be plenty of adults along, but not many kids. So if you
know any children who may be interested, let them know. All proceeds go to the
Woodland Trust.

For more information, see http://www.rollerski.co.uk/nr045.html

CASTLE COMBE

We'll be running a 1-day course at Castle Combe Race Circuit in Wiltshire on
28th October, along the same lines as our Dorney Lake courses.

If you live in the South West, this is a very good chance to do a rollerski
course, and avoid a drive up the M4. If it proves popular we're likely to
repeat the course - so please book up if you are interested!

For more information see - http://www.rollerski.co.uk/events4.html

PS you may be interested to see the rollerski racing taking place elsewhere on
the circuit, on the same day - see below.

ROLLERSKI RACE ROUNDUP

For more information on the rollerski race results and upcoming events this
year, see http://www.rollerski.co.uk/ns024.html

A highlight still to come is the inaugural Wessex Biathlon & Nordic Ski Club's
10k sprints. This is the club's first race, but promises to be a good one, with
an exceptionally large entry from the military teams already. It will be
interesting to see how civilian racers compare to the army and RAF, especially
as racers will be on the same speed rollerskis (provided by the club).

INSTRUCTORS COURSE

Snowsport England will be holding a rollerski instructors' course on 6-7 October
in Hyde Park, London. Eric Woolley, their chief coach, will be running the
course and all potential instructors are invited to take part. Successful
candidates will be able to join the Snowsport England coaching scheme, which
provides public liability insurance and other benefits.

http://www.rollerski.co.uk/ns019.html

AND FINALLY...

People often ask if rollerskiing is a new invention. To prove it's not, here's
some archive footage of a rollerski tour from Southern California to Lake Placid
(NY), in aid of the US Cross-Country Ski Team taking part in the 1980 Winter
Olympics.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6HKlTKdRQJ4

Such trips have taken place in the UK as well. In 1995 a 53-year old Harry
Waugh from South Yorkshire travelled from Land's End to John O'Groats on
rollerskis covering the distance in 17 days and 2 hours. He raised £4,000 for
the British Heart Foundation

All the best,
Iain

Dear All

We've got hold of a rather special coach to mark the start of our autumn
programme and get your autumn training off to a good start.

Les Parsons, the first coach of Beckie Scott - Canada's first Olympic Champion -
will be giving a special masterclass and talk in London on Saturday 25th August,
open to all, and with all proceeds / donations going to The Woodland Trust.

For more information on Les and the day, go to -
www.rollerski.co.uk/nr045.html

This is a great chance for both adults and kids to be enthused to take up and
develop in the sport, and we hope it'll inspire you to keep skiing, and / or
join in one of our sessions this autumn.

___

We'll shortly be announcing our winter holidays programme with Exodus / Waymark
holidays, and further details of our autumn instruction programme, including a
course at Castle Combe race course in October.

I'll send out some further information on this in the next week or so,

All the best, Iain

Just a quick note to wish GOOD LUCK to all rollerskiers doing the London 1-hr
race this Sunday!

From fun-runners to elite racers, this event is one of the highlights of the
London rollerski racing year. Attracting entrants from across the UK and
usually further afield as well, the race is a chance to push yourself a bit
harder, and get a taste of competitve cross-country skiing. It's also a great
chance to meet other rollerskiers and realise what a large sport it actually is.

The race is Number 3 in the Snowsport GB Rollerski Race Series, and is run by
the London Region Nordic Ski Club, which is one of the UK's largest and most
active cross-country ski clubs. Entrants in the race will include members of
the GB Nordic Development Squad, which is based in Scotland.

The race is 1 hour and 1 lap, and takes place around the Hillingdon Cycle
Circuit in West London.

For results of the GB and London race series see
http://www.rollerski.co.uk/ns024.html

It's still not too late to enter the race - for entry forms and further details,
see http://www.londonnordic.org.uk/Events.html

Cross-country skiers are made in the summer! Although it’s our quietest time
of the year for teaching, it’s the time when a really good foundation for the
winter can be laid. We’ve lots of news and stories on the world of
rollerskiing and cross-country skiing. So please read on, and do keep up your
rollerskiing!

COURSE SPECIAL OFFER

Our last 4-week course of the summer starts on Thursday 19th July. As an extra
incentive, if you book this course (or any September 4-week course) before the
end of July, we’ll send you a copy of ‘Nordic Manual’. This book gives a
lot of detail on classic and skating cross-country ski technique, and is the
ideal companion to any course of cross-country skiing.

Book at http://www.rollerski.co.uk/events2.html

TRANS’ROLLER STORY

A couple of years ago I did the Trans’Roller rollerski race in France. This
was a great roller ‘ski marathon’, and well worth a trip. For a full story
on how it went, see http://www.rollerski.co.uk/ns029.html

WAYMARK AND EXODUS

Ski holiday companies Waymark and Exodus are combining their brochures and admin
this season. This will have little impact on Waymark’s holidays - with the
same destinations and leaders - but means the holidays will appear in Exodus’s
winter brochure.

We reckon this is good news for the future of cross-country skiing. Waymark is
famous for its success in bringing people to the sport - with only the British
Army introducing more people to joys of cross-country skiing each year. In
opening up Waymark’s holidays to Exodus’s larger customer base, the trips
can only reach a wider audience. Our collaboration with Waymark / Exodus will
continue, and we will announce our joint holidays later in the year.

NEW CLASSES IN DULWICH PARK

Our Dulwich 4-week course is coming to an end, but due to popular demand, I’ve
added a few dates at Dulwich to the website. You can book a fortnightly class
session in July and August at http://www.rollerski.co.uk/class.html

Classes in Dulwich Park, Hyde Park and Richmond Park will continue throughout
the summer.

MARWE SALES ON A ROLL

Good news for the Marwe rollerski brand - see
http://www.rollerski.co.uk/nr042.html

ROLLERSKI SERIES START

The GB Rollerski Series began earlier this month at Huntly, Scotland and a full
race report is at http://www.rollerski.co.uk/ns027.html The next race is in
Durham on 30 June.

DORNEY COURSES

Congratulations to all who braved the elements at Dorney on our last two days.
The 1-day course at the end of May started in torrential rain, and didn’t get
much drier, while the 10th June course was in blistering heat all day!

Our next two Dorney dates are 15th July and 26th August - see
http://www.rollerski.co.uk/events3.html for more details.

We’ve added a special page for Special Group rollerski lessons. We’ve
increasingly been doing one-off lessons for office groups, hen parties and
friends, and structured courses for schools and army teams.

We’d encourage you to book an office party on rollerskis - it’s certainly
something different, and good fun.

More details can be found on http://www.rollerski.co.uk/groups.html

ROLLERSKI INSTRUCTORS COURSE

Snowsport England are running a rollerski instructors course in September with
Eric Woolley. I’m organising this, and Eric Woolley is running it, so let me
know if you’re interested.

ALAN UPDATE

Alan Eason is now in Australia - where there’s plenty of snow, and (he tells
me) he’s working very hard. To check out the snow at Lake Mountain near
Melbourne, see -

http://www.lakemountainresort.com.au/

ROLLERSKI TRAINING ARTICLE

I came across the following article which I found quite interesting - it’s by
Pete Vordenberg who’s a US Olympic skier (and US distributor of Elpex
rollerskis…)

http://www.dartmouth.edu/~jaydavis/fssc/features/rollerskiing.html

CLUB UPDATE

Our rollerski club in Hyde Park is going from strength to strength - we had
around 8 turning up to every session in May, with Alan Eason focusing each week
on technique.

It’s been great to see the progress being made each week, and it’s clear to
see the training going on between sessions. A particular mention must go to
Megann and Michael Lennard, who’ve both made the most incredible progress,
and have barely missed a session since Easter. See
http://www.rollerski.co.uk/club.html

GOODWOOD AND WESSEX RACES

A couple of additions to the rollerski racing calendar - Goodwood motor racing
circuit is the venue for Camberley Skaters’ annual roller marathon on 29 July,
and rollerskiers are welcome (with rubber pole tips).

Nothing official yet, but the word on the street is that the Wessex Biathlon &
Nordic Ski Club are planning a big rollerski race for the end of October at a
top venue. Keep reading these emails for more information.

For the 2007 rollerski race calendar, see
http://www.rollerski.co.uk/ns024.html

All the best,
Iain

DORNEY COURSES

A reminder that we've a 1-day course at Dorney this Sunday, and another on 10th
June. Both are suitable for beginners and intermediates, and this weekend's
course will also be suitable for more advanced skiers, with Alan Eason leading.

Book at http://www.rollerski.co.uk/events3.html

I've also posted a couple of new dates in July and August (to fit in around
Dorney's regatta calendar).

WEDNESDAY EVENINGS IN HYDE PARK

It's worth plugging our Wednesday evening class sessions in Hyde Park. Going on
throughout the summer, these are a great opportunity to get out and keep going.

Feel free to come along and join in whenever suits. We meet at the usual
Triangle Car Park in Hyde Park at 18.15. See
http://www.rollerski.co.uk/class.html to book.

ROLLERSKI RACES

The next London rollerski races are on 22nd July - it's well worth putting the
dates into your diary as these are great fun, and exciting to watch or take part
in.

I've now posted the results of the first two rollerski races in London on the
race calendar, http://rollerski.co.uk/ns024.html (click on 'Results' by the
races). Congratulations to novices Kwasi Debrah, Jaana Koponnen and Michelle
Marshall who took part.

Also coming up are races in Huntly, Scotland and Durham, which you can see on
the race calendar.

Plenty of training, racing, club and miscellaneous news this month.
Read on...

DULWICH PARK COURSES

Our first 4-week course at Dulwich Park in South London begins next Tuesday
(15th May). We’d encourage anyone interested in learning or improving their
skiing to join this course, on one of the best stretches of tarmac in London.

This will probably be the only course we will do in Dulwich this year (due to
the challenges of getting sufficient people to such an obscure place).

To book, go to http://www.rollerski.co.uk/events2.html

DORNEY 1-DAY COURSES

We’ll be running a Dorney course on 27th May and another one on 10th June.
Alan Eason will now be around until the beginning of June, and so he will be
leading a ‘Level 2’ group again on 27th May.

To book any of these sessions, see http://www.rollerski.co.uk/events3.html

ROLLERSKI RACE THIS SUNDAY

Have a go at rollerski racing this Sunday, at the London RNSC’s 15k / 5k free
technique (ie any rollerskis will do!) rollerski race at Hillingdon Cycle
Circuit, West London (nr J3 of the M4). All are welcome, young and old, novice
or gnarly veteran. See http://www.rollerski.co.uk/ns025.html for more details.

ROLLERSKI CLUB OPEN DAY

We’ve also secured the services of Alan Eason to take our Saturday morning
‘Club Sessions’ in May, while he’s still in the country. Each week we
have a good 2-hour training session, suitable for anyone who can rollerski
pretty well (skating technique). These sessions focus both on skills and
physical training.

We’re inviting skiers along on Saturday 19th or 26th to a free ‘Open Day’
club session, so you can join in with our training activities. You can do a
technique-focused session, or a training group. The session is free, but we
will encourage you to join our year-round programme " more information on
which can be found at http://www.rollerski.co.uk/club.html

ULTRA-FIT MAGAZINE ARTICLE

I’ve just received a copy of the latest ‘Ultra-Fit’ magazine (Volume 17,
Issue 4), which has an excellent 5-page article on rollerskiing. It should be
on sale now (or very soon) in all good newsagents, and is well worth getting
hold of.

ARMCHAIR BIATHLETES

An article on biathlon’s amazing TV popularity in the UK, and translating this
into British biathlon success - http://www.rollerski.co.uk/ns025.html

BATH-BRISTOL TOUR

The Wessex Biathlon and Nordic Ski Club (England’s only civvy biathlon club),
and the London Nordic Ski Club (England’s largest Nordic ski club), are
running a joint rollerski tour from Bath-Bristol. This will take place on
Saturday 19th May and more information can be found on the club’s website
http://www.londonnordic.org.uk - note that this is only for members of the LRNSC
or the WBNSC.

For pictures of our recent Bristol-Bath tour, see
http://www.rollerski.co.uk/gallery18.html

WESSEX CLUB REGULAR SESSIONS

The Wessex BNSC is going from strength to strength these days. The club has
recently announced the start of regular rollerski training sessions at Castle
Combe motor racing circuit in Wiltshire. More information can be found via the
club’s website,
http://www.wessexbiathlon.org

ETON ROWING ROLLERSKI SESSIONS

This summer we plan to introduce rollerskiing to over 100 teenagers taking part
in Eton College’s summer residential rowing courses. Rollerskiing will be an
evening activity for kids to try, to give them a break from rowing and sculling.

Cross-country skiing has great links with rowing. Not only was it used by
GB’s ‘Oarsome Foursome’ Olympic winning four (Regrave, Pinsent, Cracknell,
Foster) as winter training, but it’s incredibly popular as a cross-training
activity among German rowing clubs. Many of the entrants to races such as the
Engadin ski marathon, are German rowers who finish a XC ski training camp with a
race. It was Juergen Grobler the former East German rowing coach who introduced
cross-country skiing to the GB national team and, although now a popular form of
training among elite sportsmen and women in the UK, it hasn’t yet caught on
among club level athletes.

We hope this will be a good introduction for the kids to the world of
cross-country skiing, and will broaden the appeal of the sport. [group
programme]

BALMORAL ROLLERSKI RACES

Rollerskiing once again appeared as a demonstration event at the Balmoral Road
Races in Scotland this year, with kids from the Scottish clubs (Huntly and
Cairngorm) taking on kids from a Norwegian club.

The Brits put in a good performance, and managed to beat the Norwegians this
year in a team relay. Congrats to all involved. See bottom of
http://www.rollerski.co.uk/ns025.html for a short race report, care of the
Huntly club.

AL DARGIE’S WEBSITE

I recently came across the website of Al Dargie, co founder of the Cairngorm
Biathlon and Nordic Ski Club, and a former national ski racer. It’s full of
opinions on cross-country skiing, and I spotted a particularly interesting
musing on the last international GB rollerski team, which was disbanded just
before the turn of the century "

http://www.aldargie.co.uk/briko.htm

AUSSIE-NORWEGIAN SUCCESS

And finally, a word of congratulation to Anine Leakey and her Australian pals
John, David, Angela, Sheri and Pip who took part in the famous Skarverennet in
Geilo, Norway last month. Anine, whose mother is Norwegian but who grew up in
Australia, had done some XC skiing as a kid, but the rest of the group didn’t
know what they were letting themselves in for!

A good few classic rollerski sessions in Hyde Park, and a weekend’s training
in Sjusjoen was all the preparation needed, and team members successfully
completed either the full or shorter race. In Anine’s own words,

‘We all made Skarverennet!!! It was hard, but an excellent day. The weather
was amazing and the people were all absolutely amazed none of us had ever done
it before!’

To take part in next year’s race see,

Dear All,

BRISTOL-BATH ROLLERSKI THIS WEEKEND!

This goes ahead this Saturday, and looks set to be a popular trip. The plan is
to meet at Bristol Temple Meads station at 11.00 (or Bath Spa at 10.15 if you
need to drop off a car or pick up rollerskis).

If you have any questions, please let me know. If you want to hire rollerskis,
there are still plenty available. See
http://www.rollerski.co.uk/events.html#b2b

DORNEY 1-DAY COURSE

The next Dorney 1-day course takes place on Sunday 29th April. This will be the
last opportunity to do a higher skills course with Alan Eason before he returns
to Australia for the summer.

To book, go to http://www.rollerski.co.uk/events3.html

If you haven't already seen it, there is a good article about Alan's struggles
to compete internationally at http://www.rollerski.co.uk/nr041.html

KVITAVATN COURSE

The Snowsport England Nordic On-Snow course was more popular than ever this
year. Four coaches – Patrick Winterton, Mike Dixon, Alan Eason and myself –
provided the cross-country skiing instruction, and the week featured coaching,
ski and ski orienteering races and evening activities. It was great to see such
depth of skiing talent, and improvements made by skiers returning from last
year.

EVENING ROLLERSKI SESSIONS

This week sees the start of our first 4-week evening rollerski courses in Hyde
Park. We will be running further courses here and in Dulwich Park.

See http://www.rollerski.co.uk/events.html for course listing.

We will also be having a weekly evening class on Wednesdays for anyone who
cannot commit to a 4-week course.

See http://www.rollerski.co.uk/class.html for classes.

BIATHLON

Rupert Butcher of the Wessex BNSC has asked me to remind you of his club's
excellent programme of biathlon development taking place this summer. This club
is making great efforts to promote and develop the sport of biathlon – currently
a popular `armchair' sport, thanks to the good Eurosport commentary. Mike Dixon
(one of the commentators) was telling me last week that they have between
100,000 and 300,000 British viewers for biathlon, making it Eurosport's most
popular winter sport in the UK.

WBNSC Biathlon Training Weekends 2007
Venue: Budleigh Farm, Moretonhampstead, Devon.

We've found the following article about Alan Eason, who has just returned from
the FIS Nordic World Championships in Japan.

http://www.rollerski.co.uk/nr041.html

It highlights the problems facing anyone from the UK hoping to cross-country ski
at an international level, and is a credit to Alan's resourcefulness and
determination to overcome the obstacles in his way.

Hi there,

Spring's in the air, St Patrick's day is on Saturday and now's a great time to
be out skiing in the parks and countryside - and enjoying
rollerskiing for the sake of rollerskiing!

4-WEEK SKATING COURSE

Begins THIS SATURDAY in Hyde Park, and for the following 3 Saturdays.
11.30, Serpentine Road. Price - £85 includes equipment hire.

Beginners and improvers are welcome, and if you miss a session you can
make it up at a later date.

To book, go to http://www.rollerski.co.uk/events2.html

DORNEY 1-DAY COURSE

On Sunday 25th March. We will have 2 levels - Level 1 which is
suitable for beginners. Level 2 with advanced skills and instruction.

Cost is £45, which includes lunch and all equipment.

Alan Eason - one of the UK's top ski racers - will be leading the Level 2
course. We're lucky to have Alan for this course, as he
spends most of his year competing in Europe, or training and teaching
in Australia. Book now to make the most of his up to date knowledge.

To book, go to http://www.rollerski.co.uk/events3.html

CLASSES

These continue as normal in Hyde Park and Richmond Park, with an
excellent informal vibe. To book go to http://www.rollerski.co.uk/class.html

ROLLERSKI CLUB SESSION

Congrats to those who took part in the orienteering competition in
Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens on Saturday - it was amusing for me
to read the results, as some of you mistook a buffalo for a bull, and
two bears for two mice (this will mean nothing to non-attendees -
apologies for that!) This Saturday's session will be led by Alan
Eason, and will focus on technique. 9.15-11.15 in Hyde Park.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ENGADINERS AND VASLOPPETEERS!

Yesterday saw just over 120 Brits take part in the Engadin
skimarathon. It was particularly pleasing to see so many people that
we had helped train, or had provided equipment to, doing so well
despite the stiff headwind.

A special mention must go to Alex Marfin, who knocked no less than 2.5
hours off his time of last year, finishing in just over 3 hours.
Proof, if proof were needed, of the benefits of rollerski training -
and of not doing the Engadin on classic skis! Likewise Tom 'Douglas'
Court who improved by over 80 minutes compared with 2006. Pat Burtis
(who Hyde Park regulars will have seen whizzing around on his Marwe
610s) was fastest 'Brit', in just over 2.5hours - and intends to be
back next year to knock some time off that. Congratulations also to
the Manchester cross-country ski team who put in many fine individual
performances.

Novices worth celebrating include Gary Aston, who has been out
training regularly in Richmond Park; young Emma Foden-Pattison who
came with her mother, somehow managing to get time off school; Mary
English, Andy Grant and Emma Barker, who have all been training in
Hyde Park; Glennis Dore, whose rise over the past 12 months has been
an inspiration to all; and to Agnieszka Krukowska who was so unfairly
cut off for being too slow to reach St Moritz (and who I hope will be
back next year for revenge!).

It's an excellent event - which can be tackled by anyone with
reasonable fitness and preparation - and has an addictive quality
which lures people back year after year!

BRISTOL - BATH ROLLERSKI

Hopefully many of you ski marathon-ers and potential racers can make
it on our Bristol to Bath trip. It is actually going to be on
Saturday 21st April (I think I said 22nd April previously).
Reasonable fitness is required, but out and out speed is not a
pre-requisite, and there will be plenty of time to stop and recover at
the pub towards the end.

This is a great informal chance to meet other skiers, and to get a
pretty solid workout. It's one of our favourite routes, with 15 miles
of smooth, traffic-free tarmac and mostly through gentle countryside.

For more details see http://www.rollerski.co.uk/events.html

ROLLERSKI SHOP

The shop has been doing a roaring trade in the last week, and we have
added several new rollerskis, and a particularly high class rollerski
pole to the lineup. Prices are competitve - packages in particular.
For more details go to http://www.rollerski.co.uk/buy.html

If you have any anecdotes you would like to share regarding the
Engadin or other ski races you have been in this year, please let me
know and I will produce a report for the website and the next email I
send out.

Well done for reading this far!

Best regards,
Iain

BATH TO BRISTOL – 22 APRIL

To mark the start of the summer rollerski season, we'll be doing a trip from
Bristol to Bath, along the 15 mile Sustrans cycleway which joins the two cities.
Very much a social tour, this will be a chance to meet other rollerskiers and
push yourself as you would on snow.

The trip is free, although you can hire rollerskis from us if you do not have
your own. More information at – http://www.rollerski.co.uk/events.html#b2b

COURSES & CLASSES COMING UP

This Sunday we will have the latest of our classic/skating Dorney courses – see
http://www.rollerski.co.uk/events3.html

For intermediate / advanced skiers we have secured Alan Eason to do a Dorney
course on 25th March. Aimed at anyone who has done a beginners course at Dorney
(or elsewhere) and is happy with the basics. Alan's one of the country's
leading cross-country skiers (currently in Japan competing in the World
Championships) and has had excellent feedback as an instructor. Book also at
http://www.rollerski.co.uk/events3.html

We have a 4-week skating course beginning 17 March, see
http://www.rollerski.co.uk/events2.html

Our classes continue each week in Hyde Park / Richmond Park / Dorney – see
http://www.rollerski.co.uk/class.html

ONLINE SHOP

You can now order rollerskis online at http://www.rollerski.co.uk/buy.html -
this has become possible as we now have sufficient stock to meet almost any
order. Our prices remain extremely competitive, especially our rollerski
packages, which have proven very popular with first time rollerskiers.

CHRIS RICHARDS - SKI MARATHON RACING

Chris Richards has the following advice for anyone taking on a ski marathon –
http://www.rollerski.co.uk/nf006.html

SKI MARTHONS & ENGADIN

No fewer than 120 British skiers are entered for the Swiss Engadin ski marathon
next month. For anyone taking part in the Engadin, we are going to make our
9.30 class session / club session on Saturday 3rd March a special pre-race
preparation class, so come along if you'd like some last minute practice!

Other races coming up include the Vasaloppet, Birkebeiner and Skarverenet - and
good luck if you're taking part in any of them.

Congratulations to those who have already done the Koenig Ludwig Lauf and
British Championships.

FERGUS IN NORWAY

Our instructor Fergus is currently based in Nordseter, Norway, where he's been
helping set up a cross-country ski school. He's ideally placed for anyone doing
an independent trip to the area and wanting to brush up on skills. For further
details see http://www.rollerski.co.uk/profileferg.html

CAPTION COMPETITION

One of our readers has kindly sent in a picture, which we deemed worthy of
publication. To preserve the skier's identity (he happens to be a leading
member of the British cross-country skiing establishment) we shall refer to him
simply as `Dr Adam Pinney'.

We will offer a prize (either a copy of Nordic Manual by Ewen Martin or a
Madshus hat) to the best caption. Send your entries to us by 14th March. The
competition is open to all.

YOUTH OLYMPICS & KIDS IN XC SKIING

The European Youth Olympics got under way in Spain yesterday, with Scottish
cross-country skier Alex Standen chosen to carry the flag for the UK delegation.
I will remember Alex from the London rollerski race last year. He fell over 3
times at considerable speed, but each time he got up and chased his way back up
the field, dripping with blood. A great young fighter, we wish him and the rest
of the team the best of luck!

ROY YOUNG BLOG

Roy Young is one of the coaches for the Huntly Nordic Ski Club and the GB
Development Squad. Both his children, Andrew and Sarah, are extremely good
skiers, and he has put online some of his training programmes and ideas. Well
worth a look for anyone interested in getting kids skiing -

SCHOOL XC SKI TRIPS

On the theme of kids' skiing, Nordic Challenge is a small holiday company, which
has had considerable success in introducing cross-country ski holidays to
schools. Run by ex-military men Nick Gaskell and Tony Turnbull, the company
introduces teenage school groups to the sport, with a week of cross-country
skiing, biathlon and other fun activities. More information can be found on
their website –

SKIING ON THE MOON

With the snow situation a bit dire this season in Europe, skiers are looking
further afield for alternative destinations. North America is the obvious
choice, but have you considered the moon? This article is worth a look –

(Thanks to Alistair Brown for sending us the link).

ELITE ATHLETES OR PRIMA DONNAS?

In the world of sport, you would imagine XC skiers to be serious minded but
fairly down to earth people, not given to the silly hysterics expected from,
say, footballers.

Not so Mssrs Northug and Fredriksson who have recently been exchanging blows
with their respective handbags. It all started with a crash, and escalated
after Mr Northug of Norway accused Mr Fredriksson of Sweden of being somewhat
overweight. Perhaps it's time for cross-country skiing's own Heat magazine?

A warm welcome to all. It has also been a busy month on snow, with our holiday
/ training camp in Norway (see pictures below) and races beginning on snow (see
story underneath).

As the ski marathon season begins, we wish good luck to anyone preparing for a
ski race, holiday or just getting fit for the spring! We hope you enjoy this
month's update.

BRITISH CHAMPS & BARBARA

The British Cross-Country Ski Champs are now well under way in Ruhpolding,
Germany. There's good snow and a large field. Congratulations go to Barbara
Baker of our own rollerski club, who took part in the 7.5k skating race.

See http://www.rollerski.co.uk/nx022.html for report.

DORNEY & HYDE PARK COURSES

We have Hyde Park 4-week classic and skating courses beginning this Saturday and
Sunday. We have spaces left on both courses, and would encourage anyone keen to
get to grips with the basics of classic or skating technique to sign up.

More on http://www.rollerski.co.uk/events.html

We have a Dorney all-day skating course on 11th February (aimed at anyone doing
a skating race or holiday), and a classic / skating course on 25th February.

See http://www.rollerski.co.uk/events3.html

We would remind you that you can hire equipment at Dorney and Hyde Park to use
yourselves.

BATH-BRISTOL CHALLENGE 2007

We are planning a Bath-Bristol rollerski challenge in April. This is a
rollerski tour on the 15 mile, excellently tarmaced former railway track between
the two cities. Please let me know if you have a preference for a certain day.
This is a free event, and you can hire rollerskis to take part if you don't have
your own.

EWEN MARTIN BOOK

We now have Ewen Martin's Nordic Manual on sale. This gives an excellent
summary of cross-country skiing technique – Skate 1, Skate 2 and Skate 3;
diagonal, double poling and kick double-pole as well as coaching tips if you
want to teach yourself to ski / rollerskis! It costs £10 and can be ordered
online at -
http://www.rollerski.co.uk/books.html

MARK GEE RACE TIPS & TECHNIQUE

Ex GB biathlete Mark Gee (who appears in Ewen's book) has on his website some
excellent race tips and technique pictures, which help with visualising body
positions. Well worth a look. See –

http://www.nordic-world.com/G-Zone.htm

NORWAY TRIP PICTURES & NEWSPAPER REPORT

Here are some pictures from our trip to Norway –

Laura Long, Helen Wood and Luke Klimacki (our instructor Andy's son) were caught
on camera by the local newspaper –
http://www.rollerski.co.uk/gallery16.html

KVITAVATN COURSE

Mike Dixon and Patrick Winterton have been confirmed as lead coaches on
Snowsport England's excellent on-snow ski trip in Kvitavatn in April. This is
an outstanding course for anyone after first rate coaching, particularly if you
have a desire to race next season.

YOUTH OLYMPICS

GB will have 6 cross-country skiers at the Youth Olympics in Spain this
February. See story on http://www.rollerski.co.uk/nx023.html - we wish them all
the best of luck!

BRITISH MASTERS CROSS-COUNTRY SKI ASSOCIATION

The British Masters organisation now has its own website. You can see what they
get up to on -
http://www.bmccsa.org.uk

SPARTAN HIKE

I did the 15k classic race at Spartan Hike, one of the army's qualifying races
for the British Champs. Speaking to the colonel in charge, he said that
non-military skiers are very welcome to take part in the cross-country ski races
at this event. (The biathlon would be harder to accommodate, due to lack of
range space).

This is an excellent chance to pit yourself against a wide range of army skiers,
and is very well organised.

I finished 34th out of 211 in my race, starting from 206th position! A good fun
race (on my second day on classic skis all year!) See -

Welcome to 2007 - our programme starts off on 6th January, and we wish you good
skiing this season.

COURSES COMING UP

We have a whole host of courses coming up to help you get your ski legs in 2007.
A 4-week skating skiing course begins Saturday 6th January, and a 4-week classic
course starts Sunday 7th – both in Hyde Park.

We have a 1-day classic and skating course at Dorney on 21st January (the course
on the 14th January is now full). We have a full day of skating at Dorney on
11th February.

Course listing – http://www.rollerski.co.uk/events.html

Our class sessions continue apace – http://www.rollerski.co.uk/class.html

ROLLERSKIING IN THE NEWS

We've had a few journalists trying out rollerskiing recently, and the first
report has appeared in the pink pages of the Financial Times. The author has
since been back to try skating style – sense of humour safely intact - and is
considering an assault on the Engadin ski marathon in March. The Margaret is
none other than Margaret Stone who will no doubt be known to some of you.

http://www.ft.com/cms/s/c63bebac-8c42-11db-9684-0000779e2340.html

The Sunday Times have written an article on rollerskiing in Scotland. Although
we aren't mentioned, they have used some pictures of us in London. (see link
below).

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,2090-2506588.html

CAIRNGORM TRAINING

In our news section we have published an excellent article written by Roger
Homyer, a coach at the highly promising Cairngorm Biathlon and Nordic Ski Club
in Aviemore. This gives an insight into the work going on to create a new
generation of young British biathletes and cross-country skiers.

What is remarkable is the standard being achieved, largely through training on
rollerskis. Expect to see some impressive results from the club at the British
Championships, later in the season.

http://www.rollerski.co.uk/nf005.html

The article first appeared in Ski Nordic magazine, which has for many years been
providing first rate articles for the British cross-country skiing community.
Sadly the December edition was the last, as the magazine has now closed down.
We wish the publishers well for the future, and pay tribute to all their efforts
over the years.

MIKE DIXON & SUNDAY TIMES PHOTOGRAPHS

Famous biathlete Mike Dixon gave a another very successful rollerski masterclass
in Hyde Park at the beginning of December. There are some pictures of the group
at – www.rollerski.co.uk/gallery15.html - a couple of these pictures appeared in
the Sunday Times (Scottish version).

We are very much hoping Mike will be back in 2007

BEST WISHES FOR 2007!

Finally let me wish you all a Happy New year! May 2007 be a healthy, happy and
successful year. If you're skiing, enjoy your holiday; if you're racing, train
hard, race easy, and have a good time.

Best regards

Hello All

Well, it's winter, and although we're having tornados in London, the snow isn't
where it's supposed to be.  That said, there's still hope. 12cm of snow fell
near Lillehammer today, and there's enough snow in Hochfilzen for the biathlon
this weekend...

We hope you can get in some rollerskiing in the absence of anything snow-like!

MIKE DIXON BIATHLETE TALK

Mike Dixon, GB's most accomplished biathlete, will be giving a talk tomorrow
afternoon at 16.30 in the Mitre Pub near Paddington. All are invited and entry
is £5. To book, go to http://www.rollerski.co.uk/nr033.html

LRNSC GLUHWEIN & MINCE PIE TOUR OF RICHMOND PARK

An alternative tomorrow is the LRNSC's annual mulled wine and mince pie tour of
Richmond Park. This excellent adventure begins at 16.00 at the Sheen Gate of
the Park. This is easy to get to – simply catch a direct train from Waterloo /
Vauxhall / Clapham / Putney / Richmond to Mortlake station and walk 10 minutes
up Sheen Lane.

The tour is free, but non-members may expect to be recruited to the club for
2007!

2007 - COURSES AND CLASSES

We have a number of courses and classes starting in January, for anyone keen to
get a good start to your year's skiing (and maybe lose the Christmas calories).
Highlights include –

Saturday 6th January – 4-week skating course, Hyde Park
Sunday 7th January – 4-week classic course, Hyde Park
Sunday 14th January – 1-day classic & skating course, Dorney Lake

Further information on http://www.rollerski.co.uk/events.html

Regular class sessions continue in Hyde Park, Dorney and Richmond Park – see
http://www.rollerski.co.uk/class.html

2007 – SKATING & ENGADIN SKI MARATHON

With Waymark Holidays we are arranging a trip to the Engadin Ski marathon in
March 2007. Combining this trip with rollerskiing in the months beforehand
will help you make the most of your time on snow, and ski faster over the 42km
course!

The trip will include flights, transfers, accommodation, on-snow instruction,
race entry and ski waxing help. For more information see –
http://www.rollerski.co.uk/cross.html - or contact Waymark on 01753 215185.

TIROL TROPHY SKI SERIES

We've just received information on the Tirol Trophy race series. This is
another interesting series of ski marathons taking place in the Austrian and
Italian Tirol. Do all 3 races in the series and you get a souvenir medal – gold
if you come close to the top of the field; silver if you're in the middle and
bronze if you make it round!

More information on http://www.tiroltrophy.com and
http://www.rollerski.co.uk/nf003.html

BRITISH CHAMPIONSHIPS

Time to start thinking about the British Champs for anyone interested, at least
in terms of training. We've also been reminded that all competitors need race
insurance. This year the main races will be classic 15k on Saturday 28th,
skating 10k on the Sunday and a 4x10k relay on the Tuesday (ladies / youth
distances are shorter). Biathlon races follow on. More information on
http://www.britishbiathlon.com

BRITISH CANOEISTS TAKE TO ROLLERSKIS

This week some of GB's elite canoeists took to the rollerskis at Dorney Lake.
Each year the squad spends a week cross-country skiing in the Pyrennees, and
coach Shaun Cavan was telling me how impressed he was with the results of the
camp, particularly with the VO2 max improvements noted in his athletes.

SNOW GONE?

After a fairly respectable start in November, everyone was beginning to wonder
where all the snow's gone? The good news is that - according the Nordseter
website in Norway - (www.nordseter.no) there has been 12cm of snow today.
Fingers crossed for a good season.

Less encouraging are pictures from Hochfilzen, Austria, which shows enough snow
to ski on - just –

MIKE DIXON BIATHLETE DAY

We're proud to welcome legendary biathlete Mike Dixon to Hyde Park on Saturday
9th December.  Mike will be leading a skating masterclass from 2-4pm, followed
by a talk afterwards in the Mitre Pub.

Mike is a 6-times Winter Olympian in biathlon and cross-country skiing, and has
carried the flag at no fewer than 3 Olympic opening ceremonies.  He is currently
the main biathlon commentator for Eurosport, and is a leading motivational
speaker.

We're very lucky to have Mike with us - he's one of the most inspirational
coaches and characters you could meet - and we would encourage you to book the
masterclass and / or his talk afterwards. Places are limited, and  it would be
best to book up in the next week or so.  More details on -
http://www.rollerski.co.uk/nr033.html

UPCOMING COURSES

We have 2 Dorney 1-day dates coming up soon - this Sunday 26th November and
Sunday 10th December.  For more information and to book, see -
http://www.rollerski.co.uk/events3.html

Our Hyde Park, Richmond Park and Dorney classes continue, see -
http://www.rollerski.co.uk/class.html - an ideal way to get back into skiing
before the New Year.

STRIDE & GLIDE BOOK

We've just received our first delivery of the year's most eagerly anticipated
cross-country ski books, Stride & Glide.  With chapters on cross-country skiing,
rollerskiing and nordic walking, this book is a comprehensive, up to date,
easily readable and useful manual for beginners and racers alike.  A good
Christmas book.

You can order it online on - http://www.rollerski.co.uk/books.html

GIFT VOUCHERS

These may also make good Christmas presents for friends or relatives - order
them online at http://www.rollerski.co.uk/giftvouchers.html

They can be redeemed against any of our classes, courses or private instruction,
or rollerski equipment.

SNOW IN NORWAY

The snow keeps falling in Norway which bodes well for competition this season,
as well as our New Year's trip - see http://www.rollerski.co.uk/cross.html

STRETCH BANDS

One thing we always recommend for building up arm strength is stretch bands.
You can use bungee elastic, or alternatively something like this -

http://www.rbkdirect.co.uk/resistance-tubes.html   or
https://www.shopholistic.co.uk/viewprod_YMD012FA.php

Make sure you have a full range of movement with your arms, bringing in your
triceps and lateral muscles.  You can also isolate just your triceps.

ROLLERSKI CLUB

This continues apace.  We've recently had coaching sessions with British
Champion Alan Eason - who will be around this week before heading off to the
continent for training.

A recent highlight is the Hyde Park Checkpoint Challenge - see
http://www.rollerski.co.uk/challenge.html for results, and to find out how you
can take the challenge...

In one week it's turned from summer to winter. The snow's arrived in Norway,
the central heating's on again and thoughts are again turning to the winter
ahead.

We welcome Alan Eason to our course lineup this weekend. Freshly back from
glacier training in Austria, Alan will be bringing some of his expertise to Hyde
Park, taking skiers who have the basics of classic and skating, to the next
level.

COURSES COMING UP

We have a 4-week skating course beginning 11th September, the last of 2006.
See – http://www.rollerski.co.uk/events2.html

Our intermediate / advanced courses with Alan Eason start this weekend, still a
small number of places available. See –

HYDE PARK AND RICHMOND PARK CLASSES

Why not join us for a refresher class in Hyde Park or Richmond Park this
weekend? It looks set to be excellent, crisp winter conditions –

Book on http://www.rollerski.co.uk/class.html

DORNEY COURSES

Our Dorney day on 19th November is now completely booked up. We have places
left on our 10th December course, and I have just added another Dorney date for
26th November.

http://www.rollerski.co.uk/events3.html

In the New Year, we hope to add another venue, Dunsfold Park near Guildford in
Surrey. This is a privately owned airfield with some very good tarmac, and is
the home of the Top Gear BBC TV programme. Its owner is himself a keen
rollerskier, and very keen to welcome us along.

NORWAY & ITALY TRIPS

Our trips, I'm glad to say, are filling up. There are only a few places
remaining now on the Norway trip, and the Italy trip has taken a few bookings.

I've added a brief profile of Andy Klimacki, who will be classic instructor on
the Norway trip, to the web page, www.rollerski.co.uk/cross.html - there is a
'You Tube' link which features Andy in another guise, as shooting and running
coach to a nationally successful tetrathlon team.

The snow arrived in Sjusjoen this week - you can visit the webcam to have a look
-
http://www.sjusjoen.nu/

NSSW PRESS DAY

We're still looking for volunteers to take part in the opening press day of
National Ski & Snowboard Week on 12th November. Let me know if you can make it
– we've got to be on the Mall outside the Carlton House Terrace steps at 1.45,
meet at the normal Hyde Park carpark 1pm. Press arrive 2pm. Should be a good
tour.

See www.nssw.co.uk for more information on the week.

WOBBLE CUSHION

Balance is somewhat useful in cross-country skiing. Well, it's essential
really. A quick way to build up balance, control and ankle strength – which is
often the `missing link' when you start skiing from other sports – is to use a
`balance cushion'.

There are lots of people selling these, and they make an excellent investment or
early Christmas present. A good selection is on sale at –
http://www.physio-line.co.uk/acatalog/Balance_and_Wobble_Boards.html

BLUE PETER

If you switch on to the BBC children's show Blue Peter on Monday afternoon may
see a few rollerskiers among the children's 'conga'. Watch out for them if you
can!

OTHER NEWS

I've put up a profile of newly qualified instructor, Laura Long –

We've recently had a delivery of new Swix Alulite poles. This season they're
blue with cork handles –

Lots of information this time, not only on the world of rollerskiing, but also
cross-country skiing:

LONDON 4-HOUR ENDURANCE CHALLENGE

This is one of the highlights of the rollerski racing calendar – attracting some
of the best rollerskiers in the country - and further afield. It's also an
excellent chance for beginners to see how many laps they can do - and whether
you do 2 laps or 100, there is a prize for everyone afterwards.

The event is run by the London Region Nordic Ski Club, and more information is
on the website – http://www.rollerski.co.uk/ns022.html

SKI MARATHON AND WINTER TRIATHLON CALENDARS

I've trawled through the internet to try to find all the ski marathons going on
in the 2006-7 season (or as many as I can). There are literally hundreds of
them, and in many countries you can find a marathon each weekend from January to
March. Races in Italy, Austria and Germany have extremely good websites, and
many of the big races have shorter subsidiary races, and kids' races.

The full list can be found at http://www.rollerski.co.uk/nf003.html

I've done something similar for Winter Triathlon at
http://www.rollerski.co.uk/nf004.html

(Thanks to the manager of the British Winter Triathlon team for letting me know
that!)

OUR COURSES

Reminder of our advanced courses coming up. Also, the Dorney sessions have
proven really popular – this Sunday's is now fully booked, but 15th November
(skating) still has places left, and new dates have been released for 2007.

Full details of these and others on - http://www.rollerski.co.uk/events.html

GB ROLLERSKI SERIES

The GB Rollerski Series came to a conclusion on 1st October, and with 117
competitors this year, it was more popular than ever before. Overall series
winners were Mike Dixon from the Cairngorm Biathlon club and Fiona Crossley from
the Yorkshire Dales.

I've posted full results on http://www.rollerski.co.uk/results.html

ROLLERSKIING TO LAUNCH NATIONAL SKI & SNOWBOARDING WEEK

I've been asked to come up with a few rollerskiing volunteers to help out with
the press launch of the National Ski & Snowboard Week 2007. This will take
place on 12th November at about lunchtime – somewhere in Central London - and it
would be great to put on a show of rollerskiing strength and expertise. If you
are interested, please contact me on iain@...

TOUR DE SKI

Based loosely on the Tour de France, the FIS this year launch the Tour de Ski
cross-country ski series. For more information on this visit –

WAYMARK HOLIDAYS – BEST SKI COMPANY

At the recent Guardian Travel Awards, cross-country ski holiday company Waymark
Holidays were presented with the award for `Best Ski Company'. It's a tribute
to the small team running Waymark, that such a niche company has won such a
prestigious award.

Hi All

Hopefully autumn finds you well and in good health.  I thought it a good time to
get in touch with winter approaching, and thoughts turning to skiing.

ROLLERSKI COURSES - http://www.rollerski.co.uk/events.html

Our 1-day courses at Dorney take place once a month, and most now combine
classic and skating instruction in one day. A beginners skating and classic
4-week course take begins in Hyde Park this month, with advanced courses
starting in November.

* 4-week skating course begins this SATURDAY - www.rollerski.co.uk/events2.html
* 1-day Dorney course, SUNDAY 15th October - www.rollerski.co.uk/events3.html

WEEKEND SESSIONS - http://www.rollerski.co.uk/class.html

If you cannot commit to 4 weeks or a whole day, you can still come to our
regular class sessions in Hyde Park and Richmond.  These 2 hour sessions combine
instruction, with a chance to go and practice on your own.

These sessions cost £20 per session, or 4 for £60.

HOLIDAYS -  ON SNOW! - http://www.rollerski.co.uk/cross.html

Our cross-country ski trips are booking up fast now. Although the Versiaco trip
has plenty of space, the Norway trip is half full and I'd encourage you to
contact Waymark soon if you would like to reserve a space.

The aim of the trips is to enable you to make an easy transition from rollerskis
to cross-country skiing.  We do a mix of skating and classic skiing, with a
focus on getting the most out of our skis (we use faster, waxed skis from the
outset), and we have a determination to make the most of our time on snow!

More detail on www.rollerski.co.uk/cross.html . You can book via Waymark
Holidays (who do the logistics for the trip) on 0870 950 9800.

CLUB - http://www.rollerski.co.uk/club.html

The club continues apace. Check out the website for more details on the
programme, as well as notes on joining and paying coaching fees.

SPECIAL OFFER - NATIONAL SKI & SNOWBOARD WEEK -
http://www.rollerski.co.uk/nr022.html

We are supporting the National Ski and Snowboard week (organised by the Ski Club
of GB), and are offering a few special discounted class sessions.

NEW INSTRUCTORS

Congratulations to my flatmate Laura Long, who is now a qualified rollerski
instructor!  Having taken part in a gruelling 2-day course, she joins 7 other -
mostly much more experienced skiers - to gain the coveted qualification.

With her recent experience, she will be a valuable instructor, particularly with
beginners.  Laura first started rollerskiing early last year, but has made
exceptional progress - despite her first ski trip being over New Year 2006 - and
did her first ski marathon on snow this March.  She plans to do the British XC
Ski & Biathlon Championships at Ruhpolding in January.

For more information on Snowsport England's 'Class of 2006' rollerski
instructors go to http://www.rollerski.co.uk/ns021.html

ROLLERSKIERS WED

Congratulations to my ex-flatmate Hugh Pritchard and his beautiful bride Julie
Houle on their recent wedding. You can see some pictures here -

http://www.nordicskiracer.com/cgi-bin/news/news_item.asp?NewsID=900

Hugh represented GB in biathlon at the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City -
the only British civilian to make the team in modern times. He has had a great
influence on skiing in England, and his technical expertise seems to be making
an impact in the US, if the following article is anything to go by -

http://www.nordicskiracer.com/cgi-bin/news/news_item.asp?NewsID=895

ROLLERSKI RACING

There are 2 races coming up soon in London, which may be of interest.
Definitely recommended if you plan on racing this season -

8 October - 3.30pm - race 5 of the London Rollerski Series, Sprints!
21 October - 4-hour endurance challenge

More information is on http://www.londonnordic.org.uk/Events.html , the website
of the London Region Nordic Ski Club.

Hope this is of interest - I look forward to seeing you soon,

Iain

Hi,

It's been very decent weather for rollerskiing in London lately. Sunny skies, a
cool breeze and surprisingly fresh air are making all the difference.

Up and down the country lots of good things have been happening. The rollerski
races have been well supported, and it was particularly pleasing to see Edward
and Donna Hine (who first started rollerskiing in May) taking part in the 1-hour
race in June.

Also last month we had the GB Junior Development squad in London who – after
doing some racing – put on a spectacular impromptu display of rollerski tricks
on the Serpentine Road, and went for a tour of the Mall (see pictures below).
It's worth mentioning that for anyone rollerskiing on a Sunday, the roads around
Buckingham Palace are shut to traffic giving a much longer training circuit.

Our courses and classes have been well supported, and I hope the courses coming
up will appeal – let me know if you need more information, and come along!

Hope you enjoy the information and articles below.

Iain

Courses coming up –

Hello folks,

I hope all's well. Rollerskiing is still going on despite this funny weather –
too wet / too hot / too much football (?). Great to see new people coming
along, but I'd encourage you to come along if you haven't been around for
awhile.

ROLLERSKI COURSE

Because of renewed demand I've decided to schedule a skating 4-weeker for
Tuesdays in July. See -
http://www.rollerski.co.uk/events2.html

This is for both skating newcomers and anyone who hasn't been skating for a
while to 'brush up'.

Come the end of July I have added a couple of skating and classic courses. I
would introduce / designate a course for advanced skills if there's any interest
– let me know.

HOLIDAY

I will be on holiday from 30th June until 9th July, so no rollerskiing then.
Come for a session before then if you like.

LONDON RACE & BBQ

This Saturday sees the second race in the GB Rollerski Series taking place in
London.

There will be a large field (40+) with a big Scottish contingent. The London
Region Nordic Ski Club will be welcoming a team from the RAF, as well as the
Huntly and Cairngorm Ski Clubs and the GB Cross-Country Development Squad.

Racing starts at 3pm with a one hour race, and there's a shorter race for
juniors and novices. For more information see -
http://www.rollerski.co.uk/ns017.html

If you need any equipment (skis, pole tips, etc) let me know and I'll bring it
along –
http://www.rollerski.co.uk/buy.html

HYDE PARK CLUB

With so many people now rollerskiing well, what happens next? From September
I'm considering introducing a Hyde Park 'Club' which would focus more on
coaching - and less on instruction – for rollerskiers who have already done the
courses.

We've a variety of very experienced coaches we can call on to organise training
sessions, and focus on development and performance each week. The way we set
this up will depend on the feedback we receive, so send me your thoughts. I'd
like us to be better at helping people prepare for holidays, races and
expeditions - and move on from just teaching the basics.

The club would be different to existing clubs in SE England, in the sense that
it would focus on developing skiers with regular weekly training sessions
throughout the autumn and winter, and would develop a friendly `team' identity.

ROLLERSKI INSTRUCTORS AWARD

Snowsport England's head coach Eric Woolley will be taking a Rollerski
Instructors Award course in August 2006. This will take place over the weekend
of 12-13th August in Bristol.

The cost of the course will be £40 per person, and successful participants will
be awarded the Snowsport England Rollerski Instructor or Rollerski Club Coach
Award. This is useful if you want to teach people to rollerski, as it provides
insurance.

For more information see -

provides year round snow.

http://www.transroller.transjurassienne.com/affiche.asp?arbo=2&num=5 - I just
received in the post info on the `Transroller' race in France. I did this race
a couple of years ago and it was great. With about 200 other rollerskiers, you
start from the centre of a small French town with the brass band playing (!) –
and finish up amid beautiful Jura mountain scenery. Worth the trip.

http://www.masterskier.com/articles/0506preseason/keystotraining.html -
interesting article on strength & training.

Please let me have any feedback. Otherwise, good rollerskiing and hope to see
you soon.

Hi

With the weather seemingly on the mend, I thought this was a good time to send
out an email!

rollerskiing since March or before to come and have another go. Let us welcome
you back. Book one of two classes – 9.30 or 11.30.
• Sunday 11th June – Classicists Day – 10am Hyde Park. For everyone who's been
on one of the three classic courses we've had since the end of March (see email

Now up on the website, if you want to just book rollerski hire for a session.
(On the home page, to the bottom right of the class booking section).

AVIEMORE TRAINING CAMP

If you're interested in racing next season, I will be going up to Aviemore from
30 June to 3 July along with some Scottish / English ski racers. We'll be doing
some hard training on the hills around Glenmore Lodge. Please email me if you'd
be interested in coming or want more information.

own is never enough. Take a look at the following article, which - although
aimed at masters - is relevant to all –

Dear All

As the summer approaches, rollerskiing is getting into full swing. The first
rollerski race of the year took place in April, and Sunday's Bristol-Bath tour
saw 30 London rollerskiers take to the track.

SKATING COURSE

We have a 4-week skating rollerski course coming up on Saturday. Aimed at
beginners this course will cover all the basics of skating – skate 1, skate 2
and skate 3, stopping, balance exercises will be covered.

Book online at –

ROLLERSKI RACING

Results of the first race of the London Rollerski Series are up now – see

The next rollerski race is on 21st May. For a race calendar and contacts see –

KATH JOY OLYMPIC FILM

Kath Joy is a London based rollerskier who's considering attempting to qualify
for the Winter Olympics. Her friend has come up with a film of her (including
some rollerskiing) which you can see online. See –
http://www.rollerski.co.uk/ns014.html

HILLINGDON UPDATE

Most people familiar with rollerskiing will at some time come to Hillingdon
Cycle Circuit for racing or training. The circuit is now getting a new
clubhouse with an area set aside for us rollerskiers, thanks perhaps to the fact
that project architect is none other than Chris Richards, racing secretary of
the London Nordic Ski Club!

STOPPING

Here's a good article on stopping on rollerskis – something that, at some point,
most people like to learn.
http://www.fasterskier.com/training1065.html?PHPSESSID=e72ae78790d1426fb4c8a6515\
8b03374

ROLLERSKI TOURING

Rollerski touring is a great day out – a low impact trip that exercises your
whole body.
The recent Bristol-Bath tour saw about 30 London rollerskiers heading to the
South West. The tour was about 16 miles, which may sound a lot. However, the
following article may put things in perspective…
http://www.fasterskier.com/training2459.html

If you are looking for new routes to rollerski on, the following may be of
interest – the Nationwide Rollerski Directory gives routes you can try, and is
now online.

INLINE SKATING RACES

We don't much comment on skating news, but this one caught my eye – a skating
race at Blenheim Palace. See –
http://www.theblenheiminlinechallenge.com/

The cost to enter this race is £28. When you consider that you could do 5
rollerski races - in the equally impressive surroundings of Hillingdon Cycle
Circuit - for £30, rollerski racing suddenly seems a bargain.

Hi All

I hope you'll find our summer programme interesting - especially our Tuesday and
Thursday evening sessions. Last night we had the place practically to ourselves
which makes it a great place to learn or train.

This time round I've added links to some interesting skiing & rollerskiing
articles.

DORNEY UPDATE

We're able to confirm Dorney dates for the next few months – fitting in around
their rowing calendar, next date 29.4.6 (see below).

We introduce a mixture of dates at the weekends as well as Monday evenings
featuring.
We can now use shower and changing facilities in their excellent boathouse. See
–
http://www.rollerski.co.uk/dorney.html

ROLLERSKI COURSES

Our next event is a 1-day classic rollerski course at Dorney on Saturday 29.4.6.

Otherwise, we have classic and skating courses in London's Hyde Park taking
place over the summer – a mix of one day and 4-week courses.

You can see a list of courses on www.rollerski.co.uk/events.html and book
online.

BRISTOL-BATH ROLLERSKI – PREPARATION – SUNDAY 30.4.6

We're putting on 2 intermediate classes timed to coincide and prepare for the
Bristol-Bath rollerski tour on Sunday 30.4.6. The first session is classic at
09.30, the second session is skating at 11.30. These will be intermediate level
sessions (ie not for beginners) and will get you in the groove for the B-B.
Cost is £15 including equipment hire, £10 excluding. You can book online here –
http://www.rollerski.co.uk/masterclass.html

The Bristol-Bath rollerski takes place the following Saturday 6 May.

ROLLERSKI FUN RUN – THIS SUNDAY 23RD APRIL

Think of rollerski racing as fun runs – as long as you have a decent level of
control over your skis, rollerski racing is as easy as just turning up and
having a go. All levels of competence and age take part in rollerski racing,
and novices do shorter races.

There is now a race entry form for the London Rollerski Race series on
www.rollerski.co.uk/ns009.html. £6 per race if booked in advcance. This
summer's races kick off this Sunday at Hayes, West London with a 10k classic
race (5k for novices) on matched skis.

INTERESTING ARTICLES

ROW BIKE

We sometimes reckon we're the most unusual sport taking part in Hyde Park.
Well, no longer. We came across someone on a `row bike' on Saturday, possibly
the most unusual bike ever invented. See – http://www.rowbike.com

CLASSIC ROLLERSKIING

We have now introduced classic rollerskiing. Our first classic course began on
Sunday morning, with a group of 8 taking to Hyde Park. You can find out a bit
more about classic rollerskiing, and the differences with skating rollerskiing,
on http://www.rollerski.co.uk/classic_skate.html

COURSES

We've a number of 1-day and 4-week classic and skating courses coming up for the
summer months. We've introduced after-work evening courses and classes, and
1-day London courses in Hyde Park. 4-week courses cost £85 including equipment
hire, and 1-day courses are £45 including a packed lunch and equipment hire.

The first two 4-week classic courses have both nearly sold out, and we'd
encourage you to book early for the upcoming courses. See
http://www.rollerski.co.uk/events.html

ALAN EASON

We're proud to welcome Alan Eason to the coaching team. Alan is reigning
British Champion in the 15k classic, and came 3rd in the other cross-country ski
race at the British Champs. He's a Snowsport England Rollerski Club Coach, and
has spent the last two British summers teaching XC skiing in Australia. His
profile will appear on the website soon. British Championships results -
http://www.britishbiathlon.com/pages/BritChamps2006.htm

SSE ON-SNOW WEEK

Good luck to anyone going on the SSE week beginning Saturday in Kvitavatn,
Norway. Chief coach Patrick Winterton has a great week of skiing and activities
planned.

ROLLERSKI RACING PROGRAMME

We've had more information on the British rollerski racing calendar. The London
Regn Nordic Ski Club has announced its prices - £6 per race if paid for in
advance, £10 if paid on the day. £30 if you pay for all 5 races in advance.

The Snowsport England / British Masters dates have been released, with 2 events
held at the superb Hetton Lyons track in Co Durham, and yet another London date.

See here for latest race information (updated for latest time and race format
information) - http://www.rollerski.co.uk/ns009.html

DORNEY PROBLEMS

We apologise for the delay in releasing our dates at Dorney Lake. `The
Management' at Dorney are focused on rowing, and getting them to confirm dates
is like getting blood out of a stone! Still, we persevere and will hopefully
get something up shortly.

In the meantime we would advise you to come to Richmond for Sunday afternoon
sessions, or to Hyde Park for 1-day courses.

BALMORAL ROLLERSKI RACES

The Queen's Balmoral Estate in Scotland will play host to a rollerski race

April. See story here –http://www.rollerski.co.uk/ns012.html

BRISTOL-BATH

The LRNSC / Wesssex Biathlon Bristol to Bath rollerski tour takes place on 6th

Hi All

This is just a quick rollerski mail to catch up on what's going on in London.
Our numbers
in Hyde Park keep on growing, with 23 there last Saturday morning – a record
perhaps!

We hope the plans we have for February and beyond will bring even more into the
world of
rollerskiing and cross country skiing!

Hyde Park sessions

Our next 6-week course is starting on 4th February in Hyde Park and there remain
a few
places left. You can book this online at www.rollerski.co.uk/events.html

Class sessions have been going well throughout January, with Mary Wray leading
them.
The Saturday and Sunday Hyde Park sessions continue apace throughout the spring,
and
will be joined by fortnightly Sunday sessions in Richmond Park and Dorney Lake
in
February. We will also have a Tuesday morning session in Hyde Park starting
February.

We'd recommend you book these as early as possible to avoid disappointment –
online
booking at www.rollerski.co.uk

Engadin ski marathon

For anyone looking for a challenge, look no further than the Engadin ski
marathon. A 42k
race through the stunning Engadin valley in St Moritz, this race is completed
annually be
100 Brits among its 12,000 entrants.

We'll be training people on rollerskis for this, and also instructing on snow.
See
www.rollerski.co.uk/engadin.html for more information.

Destinations Show

We'll be at the `Destinations' travel show at Earls Court, on the Waymark
Holidays stand.
Look out for rollerskiing demonstrations on the show which takes place from 2nd
to 5th
February..

Ski Club of GB athletes auction

Bid for a rollerski lesson and support Team GB! We have donated a rollerski
lesson in
Hyde Park to the Ski Club of GB auction. For more details visit

Racing

I've been in France racing in the British Army Land and TA championships. The
Exeter Uni
OTC team I was coaching did very well, winning TA Nordic Junior and TA 10K
Biathlon
Junior prizes. The HAC and Southampton Uni OTC who have been rollerski training
with
us did very well too, taking away a lot of the silverware.

My best result personally was 22 out of 240 in the 10k biahtlon sprint. I
managed to
shoot 3/10 targets and ended up doing 7 penalty loops!

Hope all's well – look forward to seeing you again soon!

Best regards
Iain Ballentine

Happy New Year!

Welcome to a new year of rollerskiing, which we hope will be even better than
last year.

HYDE PARK ROLLERSKIING

Our Hyde Park lessons resume on Saturday, with classes on both Saturday and
Sunday mornings in January, and a new morning session on Tuesdays starting in
February.

Our next 6-week course begins on Saturday 4th February and will be tied into our
trip to the Engadin for the famous ski marathon, for anyone interested in doing
this.

The events we ran in December were well attended with a big turnout for the get
together on 10th December, and skiers coming from as far afield as the Midlands
and East Anglia for Mike Dixon's masterclass. We hope to run further
masterclasses in the near future. For pictures see:
http://www.rollerski.co.uk/gallery11.html

DORNEY LAKE AND RICHMOND PARK

Our next 1-day course is at Dorney Lake on Sunday 5th February, and can be
booked online. We introduce fortnightly afternoon classes at Dorney and in
Richmond Park which will commence in February and can be booked now.

CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING TRIP

I've just come back from our first Waymark+Rollerski cross-country ski trip on
snow. We had a week of excellent skiing, with participants alternating each day
between classic and skating skiing. We had great weather in Norway and a really
inspirational group which made it a pleasure to teach.

Pictures of the week, as well as the article from the local newspaper we
appeared in and results of the time trial on the last day, will be posted online
soon.

Our next trip is to the Engadin and can be booked online now. See
www.rollerski.co.uk/engadin.html for details. This would be a great
introduction to ski racing for anyone who would like to give it a go, and our
6-week course beginning in February is the perfect preparation.

MARY WRAY MONTH

January is Mary Wray month here, with Mary coordinating all teaching in Hyde
Park while I'm away in France teaching Exeter Uni OTC to ski.

Mary is an excellent skier and instructor, and has had extremely good feedback
from all she has coached in the past couple of months. I wish her good luck,
and if you would like to contact her directly, her email address is
elliottwray@....

I wish you all a healthy, happy and prosperous 2006 and hope to see as many of
you out rollerskiing and cross-country skiing as possible!

All the best
