LEAGUE, PLAYERS REACH AGREEMENT
December 18, 2003
The National Lacrosse League has announced that an agreement has been
reached with the Professional Lacrosse Player's Association (PLPA) to
extend the existing Collective Bargaining Agreement for the 2003-2004
season with minor modifications. The agreement ensures that the
entire season will take place free of interruption by a strike or
lockout. The PLPA called off its player's strike on Thursday night,
which lasted twelve days. The league and the player's association
have agreed to play the season under the general terms of the
Collective Bargaining Agreement from the previous season.
"We've reached an agreement that will allow the season to be played
with the best lacrosse players in the world, and without any
interruption for the upcoming season ", said Commissioner Jim
Jennings. "We can now turn our attention to what should be a great
season. I would like to thank all of our fans who showed their
concern during the past couple of weeks".
"The agreement to play this season under the prior Collective
Bargaining Agreement addresses the short term. We remain committed to
reaching a long term labor agreement to ensure labor peace for
several years to come," added Jennings. "We look forward to
continuing our negotiations and reaching the long term agreement that
will benefit all parties moving forward."
All team training camps and preseason activities will resume
immediately, including the scheduled exhibition game between the
Anaheim Storm and the Colorado Mammoth on December 19th. The Storm
will host the exhibition game at the Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim,
following the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim home game that evening. Fans
can attend the exhibition game free of charge.
The 2003-2004 regular season opens on December 26th at the new
Glendale Arena as the Arizona Sting host the Vancouver Ravens.
Opening weekend also includes the Rochester Knighthawks hosting the
Philadelphia Wings on
December 27th.
