BCA Scoreboard dismantled
BLUE CROSS ARENA SCOREBOARD COMES DOWN:
(Rochester, NY) - In the shadow of The Blue Cross Arena, the sounds of hammers
and forklifts echoed from the Court Street loading dock. There, in the midst of
curious lunch-goers, The lights and side panels of The Blue Cross Arena
scoreboard were torn and lifted away. Now a dumpster 15 feet away holds the
bulbs that flashed the Amerks' 2-1 victory over the Portland Pirates in Game 7
of the 1996 Calder Cup Finals. It was also those lights that illuminated
countless Amerks and Knighthawk victories. But the scoreboard, which was
installed approximately 20 years ago, has fallen into disrepair in recent years
and this past season, Constellation Brands, Inc., the City of Rochester, SMG and
the Rochester Americans and Knighthawks announced that a state-of-the-art video
scoreboard would be in place for the 2002-03 seasons. The Amerks are scheduled
to be the first tenant to use the $1.2 million scoreboard when they play their
home opener at the arena on Friday, October 11th.
