David,Anders Quite a lot of riders skipped either the Giro or the
Veulta through much of their careers, usually the Veulta.
theres some blasts from the past there, like - Jelle Nidjam and Jesper
Skibby!!!
Merckx and Hinault both won all 3 grand tours, Merckx with 5 i think
in the giro and 1 veulta, Hinault nabbed the veulta twice, so they
would have stage wins in all
Lemond - I dunno if he rode the veulta
Bugno has wins in all
Rominger has a hattrick of wins in the veulta and one oor two giros
too - so yes. He won a couple of tour stages to boot
Kelly - got me stumped! Kelly has won the veulta and Ive read his
biography by david walsh a few times but cant recall any tour f Italy
activity....
Hampsten - possibly.. 88 giro winner, alpe dhuez winner etc
Mottet - giro and tour - again veulta??
rooks - ?? Tour de france yes but rest a mystery
Heres some suggestions from me - Freddy Maerterns, Adriano Baffi
(highly likely) Heras Robert Millar - definitely in veulta and tour.
Pantani ?
Pettachi managed to get wins in all 3 tours in the same season a year
or too ago
this subject could run and run - be interesting to know the number of
riders though, maybe i could email in a question to the eurosport team
and get them to answer it during their Tour commentary....
