I think Lance really wanted to win the opening time trial, but just
wasn't up to it. He was not at his best for several days, but seems
to be getting back in the groove now. He is a strategist more than
an egoist and is willing to let others have the glory (except at the
end of the tour when he will probably retain the lead.) Next year
may be a whold 'nother story. I think he can be beat, if not this
year, maybe next year. Even at his worst, he is still a lot better
rider than most of the other participants.
