Hi all. Wish i was posting after a long absence in happier
circumstances...
Yesterday (tues) Andrei Kivilev of Cofidis (4th in the Tour de
france 2001) crashed near St Etienne. he suffered broken ribs and a
cracked skull. He slipped into a coma and died at 10am on wednesday.
He wasnt wearing a helmet when he crashed and there was nothing
spectacular about the crash - just a crash within the bunch on flat
roads. He leaves a wife and a son just 6months old :(

Are the pro riders going to finally embrace helmets as important now? If so, at least Kiv's death will not be a total waste. Riding no hands, fixing his team...

I read somewhere that Riis would suggest to Jean-Marie Leblanc, organiser of the Tour de France, that riders were allowed to climb the mountains w/o helmets...

Is that how he dicrashed?by riding no handed nad fiddling in hos pockets? Still a big shame though.... As for the helmets on mountains I think its a good idea....

I came off in a race last year, while going *uphill*. Another rider in the same four-man break snagged by handlebars, and I went backwards off the bike,...
