I finally committed to buying an ex-racehorse. I'd been looking for a long
time. I've got a special spot in my heart for racehorses since I spent
nearly 10 years galloping racehorses after college. I've been away from the
track for about 12 years now (computers pay better).
Anyways, her name is Mischief. She's 3 years old by Bartok. She had some
sort of hind end soreness 3 months ago after a 3/8ths workout. They couldn't
figure out what was wrong after going all the way to a nuke scan. Couldn't
find any problems with the bones. She's sound now. Everyone cross your
fingers that we have no recurring issues in her hock.
I'm planning on a year of retraining, then on to jumping and possibly
eventing. I figure if she can't jump (gets sore from it next year) then I'll
have a trained a really nice flat horse for someone else and look for
another potential jumper.

Sorry I didn't email everyone back. I got really busy over the last few
weeks.
Missy arrived 3 weeks ago. Since then, she's had her teeth done (took out 3
caps after one fell out in the feed bucket). She's now turned out with my
other 2 mares and 3 other mares in a 30 acre pasture.
She's incredibly sweet. She has a really soft eye. She does have some scar
tissue on her left rear pastern from what looks like a wire cut. She got
that when she was a baby before she went into race training.
I'm waiting a few more months before doing anything with her. She's just
getting to enjoy life as a horse and grow up a bit till then. She was a bit
underweight but is starting to pack on some pounds. I was supplementing with
rice bran and a feed supplement on top of her pasture & hay. I stopped
because now she looks at me with the look of "I'm full, I don't want anymore
food."
That's a cute name. You didn't mention her not living up to the
Mischief part! :)

I got a chuckle from you this morning! Since the barn where I am at
is only Icy and Glory, (Glory is gray) they had to put name tags up
because they kept saying Glory looks like an Icy! LOL!!
Icy's name fits her because she's so cooooool!!!
Glory's racing name is Snakeoil's Darling. I'm glad they didn't call
her Snakey or something :)

I'm planning on a year of retraining, then on to jumping and possibly
eventing. I figure if she can't jump (gets sore from it next year) then I'll
have a trained a really nice flat horse for someone else and look for
another potential jumper.
bobbie is a chestnut and red heads are known for their tempers LOL

My chestnut mare is my calmest, gentlest horse, but she is also the one who sent me to the ER. And she wasn't even trying to get me, just the wrong place at the wrong time. Even so, I was actually afraid to deal with her again, months later when I was finishing physical rehab and brought her home from April's place. I got over it pretty quickly once she was home, but the apprehension prior to that wasn't good. Regards, Lexi
