Thanks Jen, that's exactly the type of info I'm looking for. His backend faults seem obvious now that you've pointed them out! Definitly want a horse that can use his back end. Thanks for the comparison pics too - that really helps. On to websurfing for more prospects...

First let me be fair and say the pic looks like it was taken uphill, another still shot may be more fair...
Head is nice, neck looks nice, but is set on his shoulder rather high/upright, shoulder upright (OK), front legs straight, pasterns a tad long but cool, withers above the back but not horrible and should free up that shoulder, short back, hip too sloped for a dressage horse (for an Impressive AQHA its nice) hocks well behind his tail, but at least the legs stay straight to the ground.
His motion shot is cute, but shows the lack of forward reach in the hind end. Also front end is a bit airborne (not long and low-- dressage style)
I included a pic of a stallion in a similiar pose with nice dressage reach and another with a more appropriate hind end. (both shown dressage)
I looked at his foals pics, they are just all over the place.. all seem to have the hocks behind the tail, but some have flat croups, some QH slopes, some short backed, some long, some proud necks, some skinny wimpy necks. Personally, I want to use a stallion that "stamps" his foals -- I want to know what I'll be getting out of this breeding.
I'm trying to learn about confirmation (for eventing - dressage and jumping) and may breed McKinna to a Thoroughbred in a year or two. I like the look of this one, but am really new to this. I think I like him because he reminds me of Bailey :)
actually considering his age he's not too bad. he has nice elevation at the canter definitely a plus for dressage and jumping, in the one photo he didn't seem...

Carolyn, I went back to look at the foals from this horse and to my eyes, they looked pretty darned good. Other than the one out of the QH mare, that one did...

Hi Carolyn- What do you mean about his hind end? I'm not sure if we're on the same page or not. A horses ability to get impulsion (hind legs under self) is...

my caveat to that is dont try to over compensate. For instance, its important to look for a horse that throws correct horses if yours had some crookedness....

Totally agree -- a lot of great horses out there for sale... And I will vouch for the big dollars it costs to get babies (add in live cover and transport to KY...
Great points Chez! I own the farm, mares, and stallion -- I've always figured babies at weaning have to sell for $2500 for me to break even. On the flip, I'm...
Hi Jodi, I was referring to a couple of things that Jen pointed out when she looked at his pics. Her opinion was that his hip was too sloped for a dressage...

April, you are correct, in Dressage its called elevation and is a very very good thing to have-means the horse is working off the back and connected. Long and...
