Everything is a go for next Tuesday evening out at Fernley. I will be sending out an email on Sunday with the specifics. Hope everyone enjoys their weekend.
I had heard some news tonight that may have an affect on our event next week at Fernley. I will be contacting the owners directly tomorrow to make sure that everything is still a go and will notify the list as soon as I hear anything. Just wanted to give you a heads up as soon as possible.
To answer your question Ben, no you need enough of a light to see the trail; Save the tire sparks/valve lights for burning man. It is $5 as usual for the 6:30 twilight, and $5 for the night race, 100% cash payback after the race.

Do tire sparks/valve lights count?
Just to clarify- $5 per race, or is the 6:30p race $10?

8pm weather forecast- clear, 60 degrees, 9mph wind. The regular twilight race will go off at 6:30. Following the regular twilight race, the course will be left marked and around dark there will be a one lap night race. I don't care if you duct tape a mini maglite to your handlebars, but some kind of light is required. $5 entry for everyone, 100% cash prize payback. If enough people sign up, we will have categories, otherwise it will be an open category, winner take all. Reg at 8pm, race will start about 8:30.
Also, please don't park near anyone's driveway on Hoge Rd!

Had a small error when I was entering the information into my spreadsheet. Here are the corrected results for last night. Also are included corrected C results from the Aircenter Crit.
Dear Cyclists,
At our office, we're always trying to figure out better ways of doing things.
We're currently considering buying a new bike fitting system to bring to our
office that would allow for real time three dimensional analysis. Before we
invest in this technology (and it is going to be an investment), we're trying to
get a sense of how needed this is in our area. This kind of fitting system
could help anyone from a recreational cyclist to a high level competitive
cyclist.
Please take 2-3 minutes to fill out the attached survey. To thank you for your
time, we're going to give away one complimentary VO2 Max or Lactate threshold
test to one person who fills out the survey. Feel free to share this
e-mail/link with anyone you know who rides a bike- the more input we can get
from you, the more we can try to meet your cycling needs.
Thanks and ride smart and healthy!

I am bummed that this event is on Tuesday but I had no choice. I would like to go out to Fernley myself and am always recommending it to people.
If you don't go to Fernley or would just like to attend the Demo I would very much like to have you there. Please feel free to invite any other riders you would like to also.
We will have P4s and S3s!!
Thanks! Dan
CERVELO BICYCLE e'Ride DEMO, Reno, Nevada, Tuesday, May 12th
Hours: 12 noon to 8pm, Mayberry Park near Patagonia in west Reno by the Truckee River.
You are invited to join the Bicycle Bananas Staff and Cervelo Demo Personnel, including 2 time US Pro Champion, Greg Oravetz, to ride 40 Road & Time Trial Bikes of your dreams! We will have P4s in sizes 51 through 58, and full size runs of P3s, R3 SLs, RS, and S3 bikes. Shimano Dura-Ace 7900 components, Zipp Wheels, and more....don't miss it!
Please bring your bike & all your riding gear/helmet-etc, ID & Credit Card and a completed waiver form.
We would really like you to bring your bike or ride to the demo so we can use it's measurements for a duplicate position on the test bike. This will allow you to feel more comfortable and familiar with the test bike to better experience the amazing ride of Cervelo with a minimum of distractions. Not only is seat height very important but things like handlebar height, in relation to the seat, are critical to get an accurate impression.
To avoid possible delays and adjustment considerations it is best to have your own pedals. We are happy to take the pedals off your bike or if you have an extra set you are welcome to bring them. We will also have some popular brands of pedals available for your convenience.
Here are just a few facts about Cervelo:
LIFETIME WARRANTEE! NO RIDER WEIGHT LIMIT! CRASH REPLACEMENT PROGRAM!
Over 40 athletes competed on Cervélos in the Beijing Olympics. 10 medal-winning performances, 3 Gold!
Paris Roubaix: 2 wins, 1-2nd & 1-3rd in the last 4 races. 5 team members placed in the top 20 this year.
Ironman Hawaii 2008 Bike Count by Triathlete Magazine: Cervelo 415, more than the next 4 brands combined! Rounding out the top-five were Kuota (117), Scott (103), Trek (103) and Felt (89).
From West McCarran and W. 4th St.go two miles west on 4th. Turn left on Woodland St., cross the railroad tracks and keep going straight until the road dead ends at Mayberry Park by the river.
Patagonia has graciously offered the use of their Outlet dressing rooms if you would like to change clothes there. The Outlet is open 10am - 7pm. http://www.patagonia.com/web/us/patagonia.go?assetid=1931&intl This is a great opportunity to do a little shopping while you're in the neighborhood, even if you don't need to change there.
Greg Oravetz, is the senior éRide staff person. He raced with 7-11 and Motorola, and was 2x USCF National Pro Champion in 1989 (Road) and 1991 (Crit). He has extensive experience in the bicycle industry, having managed several retail establishments and having been a rep for bicycle manufacturers, most recently Cannondale. Greg still rides recreationally and is a qualified fitter and coach.

Thanks to all that came out on a cold and windy night. One person was unable to finish due to a tacoed rear wheel after exerting so much horsepower on his machine a spoke broke. Other than that we had a safe and fun event. Thanks to my volunteers last night, Paul Kempler, Calvin Smith, and Dustin Hahn for all their help in making sure that things went as smooth as possible. Fernley next week! Here is your chance to race on a completely closed course. Details to follow. Please note that the top 3 finishers in the C category were women, way to fire ladies.
Cost is $120 and it's from 9am-2pm. If we can get 5 reno wheemen to go we get 3 additional teammates at no extra cost. We could split the fees between us.
If anyone else is interested e-mail me or CJ back.

Subject: Call for Help: Alta Alpina Challenge-Ride the Wild Sierras-June 13-Needs Registered Riders! To: agetasdds@..., luvinlife32@..., icycle@...,
Fellow Cycling Friends, Please note the Alta Alpina Challenge-Ride the Wild Sierras new ride NEEDS Registered riders and in the next 2 weeks! This ride, with a great variety of routes, is put on by Alta Alpina Cycling Club on Saturday June 13th out of Markleeville.
Note that this is a ride by Cyclists for cyclists! We are not just in it for the profits and want to offer a great ride and experience! But we need your help and/or registration. If you can't ride - please volunteer! Currenty rider registrations are way below projections and we need to get registrations to make the minimums to make the ride a go. Many cyclists have put much effort into this new ride and lets all work together to make this a go! Unfortunetely, a few seem to want this ride to fail and we really want to prove them wrong! We want to make it a success and be able to compliment rides in the area.
The early registration price also ends on May 13th! Check out the webpage - http://www.altaalpina.org/challenge/ . Please forward this on to as many cycling friends that you can!
Thanks, Tim Alta Alpina Cycling Club 267-9531
Tuesday night is the 3rd installment of the 2009 Reno Wheelmen Twilight Points Series. Hopefully the weather will cooperate. Here are the details.
Registration and Parking will be in the parking lot of the old Foothill Market at the corner of SR 341 and Kivett lane. Registration will open at approx 5:15 and the first rider will start at 6:15 sharp. Tickets at the event are $10.00 each for non-members and $8.00 for Reno Wheelmen members. I will have an updated membership list at the venue to verify membership with. If you have not yet raced this season and are not a member please remember that there is a $20.00 fee this year.
Warming up on Geiger Grade will not be allowed and riders may be disqualified for doing so. Please bring a trainer or use the side streets for your warm up. I want to keep the impact on the traffic to as little as possible.
The finish line at the top will employ a chute for riders to finish in. This will take riders off of the road at the top and onto the paved turn out. Please follow the arrows and finish in the coned off lane.
I will need a few volunteers to help with the start so that I can take care of the finish. If I do not have volunteers then I will limit the event to the first 30 participants that show up so I will have enough time to make it to the top after starting people. If you can volunteer please let me know.
I am selling my
medium sized TT bike and would love to keep it in the family. It is
a great bike but the motor is too small. Mix of Dura Ace and Ultegra.
If you’re
serious and interested, contact me off line for details. Great deal.
I can't wait to race tomorrow on all that tacky, bermed goodness.................. So, the course will be the same as 07 since the climb will be taken out?

Scott and mtb folks,
My understanding is that it is essentially the same course except for the last big climb to the mine (and thus not the shale descent from the mine). The climb is a good double track so climbers can fly pass slower climbers (like me) and the downhill is the singletrack we love in the Pinenuts.
So yes, you should bring tires.

I can back up what Mel says about that course. It just gets better with rain. Anyone who raced last year can attest to the epic trail conditions after it stopped raining. Rain doesn't muck up the dirt out there like snow does. It has been dry for a while now and any rain that falls will make the trail very fun to ride. Hope to see you all out there.
Scott
p.s. maybe Mel can tell us if the course will be the same as last year. Up to the mine? Over the Mine and down the back side? Just wondering so I can get my tire selection correct.

About 30 minutes before the race the course dried up absolutely beautifully! The conditions were just about the best I have seen it out there. The trails were tacky in the turns in some places which made for ego pumping cornering. So my suggestion is to come out. It rained lightly last night which should knock down some of the dust. Often I am entirely surprised by the conditions. Like last night: it looked bad at the diamond valley race and in the end it was lightly sprinkling at the top of the course and dry at the bottom. The winds were too bad either.
Any call to cancel/postpone the race may be made only immediately prior to the race. We must understand the efforts it takes to have volunteers, medical, booking of the venue etc.
We will see you there eh?

Call me a fair weather racer, but I hate carrying my bike when the tires are clogged with Nevada clay. I've done it often enough to know I don't really want to do it again. If the rain comes down heavily tonight and tomorrow morning as forecast for this region, is it possible that the Pine Nut Cracker would be canceled and moved into the slot the Virginia City race was pegged for or will the Cracker go off on schedule regardless of conditions?

The Virginia City MTB race that was to be part of the '09 Nevada Cup has been cancelled for this year. Virginia City Tourism had planned to organize this one, with help from the Wheelmen, but the pieces just didn't come together in time. The main hang-up was that a suitable course has not been identified (sort of a big hole). We are getting good support from the Virginia City people, though, so we hope to scout out a course sometime this year and run the race next year.

Spencer,
Call me a fair weather racer, but I hate carrying my bike when the tires are clogged with Nevada clay.

Hey, Scot, the original race series flier showed the Comstock Classic taking place on June 27 as part of the Nevada Cup. Has that race been canceled?

It is that time of year again. The weather is warming and pretty soon it will be perfect weather to ride to work. Bike to Work Day 2009 is Friday, May 15th and this year there are great prizes and exciting new challenges. Everyone that registers on-line at www.bikenevada.org will be entered to win $500 towards a new bike or bike gear. We also have some impressive prizes donated by our local participating bike shops and the first 250 people to register will be sent a packet of helpful hints and safety items, including an ankle strap and flashing light.
New this year is the Bicycle Commuter Challenge, a friendly competition between local employers to see who can get the highest percentage of their employees to pedal to work on Bike to Work Day. Check out the website to see if your company is signed up and ready to be crowned the “Bicycle Commuter Challenge Champion 2009”
We hope to see you out there and have a safe ride,
