Hello ALL!
I have been a very active participant in puting together this March 20
mobilization and i thought you guys might be interested in joining our movement.
I am part of the art group and we are having a puppet construction/flag making
day at the Plan office (1101 Riverside) on Friday(3/12) at 11AM. For those of
you play ultimate with me, i am planning on leaving ultimate around 12:30 on
march 20th to prepare for this rally, and i think that it would be really
impressive if we brought our great spirit to this event and think about what is
going on out in the big world. Sorry this is a little scatterbrained and
confusing but there is more info below and i'd love to answer your questions or
concerns if you have any further questions. Peace, danielle
One Year Later, the World Still Says Yes to Peace and Justice; No to War and
Occupation
All supporters of peace and justice are urged to participate in an important
global day of action on Saturday, March 20, to mark the one-year anniversary of
the beginning of the illegal war on Iraq. "The world still says YES to peace and
justice, and NO to war and occupation!" One year later, tens of thousands of
human beings are dead. The Northern Nevada March 20 Mobilization demands an end
to the occupation of Iraq.
A coalition of Northern Nevada peace and justice groups has come together to
mobilize people in Reno on that day. Beginning at 1:00 p.m. people from all
over the region will converge on West Street Plaza (formerly known as Brick
Park) on the north bank of the Truckee River, in between Java Jungle on the west
and the movie theater building on the east. Organizations are encouraged to
come together before 1:00 p.m. and arrive at West Street Plaza in groups.
Individuals are welcomed and encouraged to be at West Street Plaza at 1:00 p.m.
From West Street Plaza, the crowd will travel by foot and by bicycle to the
Bruce R. Thompson Federal Building at the corner of Liberty and Virginia
Streets, for a rally demanding the end to the occupation of Iraq.
So far the event is endorsed by:
-Catholic Life, Peace and Justice Commission
-Citizen Alert
-Defenders of the Planet
-Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance
-Green Party of Nevada
-Nevada Shakespeare Company
-Reno Anti-War Coalition
-Reno Impeach Bush Outpost
-Reno Food Not Bombs
-Sierra Interfaith Action for Peace
-Unitarian Universalist Social Action Committee
-UNR Campus Greens

Together these groups have identified five unifying themes: Opposition to the
military-industrial complex, the need for social justice, objection to the
erosion of our civil liberties, the need to assess accountability for this war,
and the misallocation of resources.
Aggressive foreign policy combined with the drive for corporate profits at
taxpayer expense has created a military-industrial complex in the United States
that wields too much power for a democratic society to bear. The culture built
around this complex glorifies violence. It creates a cycle of weapon
development and usage that requires the continual creation of new enemies. The
result is that the United States spends far more on violence than any other
nation on Earth. This cycle must be reversed, and America's energies should be
turned toward peaceful resolution of problems in search of global justice.
"The love of one’s country is a splendid thing, but why should love stop at the
border,?" asked famous cellist and humanist Pablo Casals.
The Northern Nevada March 20 Mobilization stands for peace and justice at home
and abroad, and demands a domestic agenda that makes people's needs a priority
and respects our personal freedoms. The Coalition supports the call to
establish a cabinet-level Department of Peace to counter the war-making
bureaucracy Washington has created over the last 60 years.
In the age of the Patriot Act, where the U.S. government can arrest and imprison
American citizens without charge and without access to attorneys, the Coalition
demands a restoration of civil liberties. The Coalition also calls on Americans
to defend the rights of immigrants, particularly those who are targeted due to
ethnicity, nationality or religious faith.
The Northern Nevada March 20 Mobilization agrees on four areas of accountability
that need to be assessed related to the war in Iraq: The government's
accountability for the war and lying to the people; the role of big business and
the military-industrial complex profiteering from the war; the role that the
corporate media play in distorting the truth; and our personal accountability to
become informed, give or withhold consent to our government, and to address
choices in our living that create war.
The Coalition demands more respect for natural resources, and consideration for
the balance of nature. Foreign and domestic policies should be formulated with
the interests of future generations in mind.
With these themes, and a demand for peace and justice and an end to the
occupation of Iraq, the Northern Nevada March 20 Mobilization invites all
supporters of peace to participate on March 20.

"sick of silence, of passive masses. educate, resist and take control. to live
a life in fear of changing is to not live at all. i will have my coup d'etat.
i will start a riot. i will hold your burning flag in my hand. and i will
watch your empire fall. i will not die for you. i will not kill for you. i
will not fight for you. i will hold your burning flag in my hand as i watch
your empire fall, because i know it will." -refused
