TAMPA - For years, the Red Sox looked up at the Yankees in the standings. Boston
finished second to the Yanks in the American League East division every year
from 1998-2005 and almost everyone this side of Beacon Hill believed that Boston
was pretty much always in pursuit of New York.
But after the Sox's recent run of success, including their second World Series
title in four years in October, things have changed. And the feeling of a role
reversal even extends to at least one Yankee.
Asked if the Yankees were chasing the Red Sox going into this season, Jorge
Posada said Monday, "Yeah, well, they won. Now it's up to us to take that away.
"They've done things right," he added. "They've got a good group of guys,
they've got some youngsters that played good toward the end of the season and
obviously they are the defending champion.
"There's no question, we are following them."
