Clear DayThis is from SI.com Scorecard Daily:
The rumor du jour had the Giants, Red Sox and Mariners working on a three-team
deal. The Mariners would wind up with Manny Ramirez to play left field, the
Giants would get Richie Sexson to play first base and the Red Sox would get
closer J.J. Putz and center field prospect Adam Jones, among others. Seattle
would, under one scenario, also land starting pitcher Noah Lowry.

Besides the fact that in the first scenario, the Giants get Sexson but don't
give up anybody, the Red Sox would be insane to make this deal. Although it
would be great to get Putz, especially if he pitches like he did last year, they
would have a huge hole in the outfield, even if they get Drew. David Ortiz would
be walked incessantly. What do they need Adam Jones for. He bombed in 32 games
with the Mariners in 2006 and there is no reason to believe that a healthy Crisp
is not the answer in CF. Surely, Boston can get more from the Dodgers. Broxton
and any one of their prospects would be better. Whatever WMP does next year, he,
together with Drew if he signs, are not going to be enough protection for Ortiz.
I don't think there is a chance of this happening and I don't know if Manny
would agree to a trade to Seattle. Leaving the Giants out, Putz and Sexson for
Ramirez would make a lot more sense.
