The originator of 98 degrees, and now Christian
Rock new sensation True Vibe, stoppped by to sing our
National Anthem before their concert opening at Timberwolf
Ampitheater and visit with the FUNatics. Check the photos
section to see the new True Vibe.
The Sports Magic Team, and members of the
Cincinnati Reds/Pepsi FUNatics had the opportunity to play
to the crowds of Canton, Ohio at a Canton Crocodiles
Baseball game. Drew, Brad, and Ryan of the FUNatics and
Chris of Sports Magic Team in Orlando propped,
ballooned, and launched t-shirts as well as celebrated
birthdays and partied with the Crocs and their crew. Check
out all the photos of the fun in Canton.
Survivor, "The Australian Outback's" and our very
own local "Kentucky Joe", Roger Bingham, stopped by
Cinergy to toss out the first pitch. Be sure to check out
the photos section to see Roger and the FUNatics
hanging together.
The intr-Ohio rivalry came to town this past
weekend when the Cleveland Indians stopped in. The
FUNatics were in rare form thanks to the 40,000 fans, most
from the northen regions of the state. Everyone
thoroughly enjoyed what the FUNatics had to offer. Plenty of
propping, balloons, and more t-shirts than any other game
for the season. We had a great time, as did Omar
Vizquel, Indians SS, tossing the ring for the bat-hat. The
FUNatics also met up with the sensational talents of True
Vibe, singing the National Anthem. It was good to see
them again, and the sang fabulously. Be sure to check
back soon for more pics than ever!
If you happened to attend the July 4th game
against the Pirates, the you saw a familiar face, which
recieved national attention being showcased on Fox
SportsNet Ohio. Our very own FUNatic Steven appeared as
Uncle Sam dressed to the nines strutting his stuff atop
the dugouts launching t-shirts from one of our Pepsi
Cannons. Hope you all had a happy and safe one!
Whoa!!! Man, oh, man, I wish I had gone to that
game. Damn, those security guards, why don't they mind
their own business. The perfect stunt would have been
for Johnny Knoxville to have put on #17 and gone out
to play third base. Johnny looks a lot like Aaron,
don't you think? Those half asleep fans probably
wouldn't have noticed the differece. I wonder if Aaron
knows how much he looks like a Jackass. LOL
Be sure to go to the Photos Section and check out
the 13 new pictures added, like FUNatics of Old,
Spring Training, Mr. Red, Who's singing the National
Anthem?, and more. Check back soon, more photos will be
added!
SMT will play. With the Reds out of town, Drew,
Brad, and Ryan of the Cincinnati Reds/Pepsi FUNatics
traveled with Chris from Orlando, Florida, as the Sports
Magic Team to Canton, Ohio. We performed at the Canton
Crocodiles/Evansville Otters game Saturday night June 23. We met with
Alfredo Portela, the GM of the Crocs, and his staff. We
all had an awesome time interacting with the fans,
playing with the props, ballooning, doing giveaways and
being interviewed on their radio broadcast. A quick
shout out to Kile, who we enjoyed sharing in his 9th
birthday, to the Dance Squad, and to Rocky, the Crocs
mascot. Thanks to all for such a great time! We hope to
see you again.
Friday nights game was started off with a Party
on the Plaza with the Pepsi FUNatics. Things were
off to a great start until the rain started to come
down, and a mini-tornado lifted our beloved Katy off
the ground with the backpack. Katy says it was a wild
ride, but well worth it! Keep listening to radio
announcements to our next Party on the Plaza with the Pespi
FUNatics.
If you happened to have been at the Monday
evening game against the Brewers, you were sure to catch
the FUNatics up to their usual hi-jinks. If you were
watching the game on Ohio's Fox Sports Net, then you were
able to enjoy a little of the FUNatics as we were
highlighted at the top of the 3rd inning slinging t-shirts
into the stands from a camera bay in the Red Box
seats. A special thanks to George, from SMT, for popping
in to monitor and make sure all is well.
Johnny Knoxville and crew from MTV's Jackass made
a stop by Cinergy Sunday afternoon to catch the
Reds and Cardinals in action. Everyone was
anticipating something exciting to occur from Jackass,
especially during the rain delay. However, their efforts
were thwarted by the watchful eye of stadium security
and police, thanks to being tipped of by their
running across the field the night before at Jacob's
Field in Cleveland. Perhaps next time guys....
Friday May 25th, the Tri-States local hero and
Survivor Roger Bingham stopped by to throw out the first
pitch to start a three game home stand against the St.
Louis Cardinals. After throwing a fastball, Roger and
his family stopped and chatted with the FUNatics for
a bit and took a few pictures. Roger's daughter
quipped we "were the greatest." Roger was a pleasure to
meet. Check back soon for photos of the FUNatics and
Roger.
Cincinnati was once again in the national
spotlight, this time however it was ESPN's Sunday Night
Basesball, the number one game in the country, against the
Houston Astros. The FUNatics were out and about with
plenty to have and do with more of the best games,
t-shirts and giveaways. A great time was had by all and
the excitement increased, especially when the
hoop-hat was placed on none other than Dustin Cohen, a LB
for the NFL's St. Louis Rams, who actually caught a
few rings. Marty and Joe were in rare form as the
crowd roared over the cannon launching t-shirts. Be
sure to check the ESPN highlights! You'll be amazed.
With the rainout Friday night, a doubleheader was
played Saturday against the Houston Astros. The Astros
took the first game, and the Reds were victorious in
the second. The FUNatics were in full force for both
games and in rare form as usual providing the best
interatcive entertainment with plenty of balloons, games,
t-shirts and giveaways. An after party occured at the
Yucatan Liquor Stand's Club Kiss with Kiss 107FM and the
Kiss Crew where the FUNatics partied like rock stars
and the DJ's gave shout out's to the FUNatics while
we were there.
Friday nights game against the Mets included
another win for the Reds and the first career grand slam
for All-Star Shortstop Barry Larkin. The celebration
only to be cut short by "the naked cowboy" making an
appearance in his boots and hat and American flag cape,
jumping over the fence and attempting to play center
field. We were all there to enjoy the frivolity! And a
quick shout out to the Giles County High Band from
Pulaski, Tennessee. You guys rock!
If you happened to watch the Reds win over the
Brewers last night (4/17, then most likely you were able
to catch the Pepsi FUNatics in action! During the
inning break at the top of the third, Katy and myself
were playing backpack and caught the national
attention on Fox Sports Net. If you stayed up late enough
to watch the Fox Sports News after the game, you
probably saw some guys and kids without shirts on, in the
39 degree weather with their Yeah! stick balloons!
It was a good time had by all.
Opening Day went without a hitch. The Opening Day
parade was great! We had a lot of fun marching through
the streets, high-fiving all the kids, and tossing
out t-shirts. There were 100,000 people that lined up
for the parade. We even chatted and took pictures
with Marge Schott, Anthony Munoz, and Martina McBride.
The new field at Cinergy looked awesome! The crack of
the bat and the buzz of the crowd was electrifying,
even for our FUNatic rookies. Til next time..........
You can catch all the FUNatics in the Opening Day
Parade, Monday morning March 2, 2001. We'll be on a float
winding our way through the streets of downtown
Cincinnati to the newly redecorated stadium, (Cinergy
Field/Riverfront)with a grass field, and a giant gap in left-center
field. See us in the parade, or catch us inside and out
at the stadium before, during and after the Opening
Day game against the Atlanta Braves. Maybe you'll
catch a t-shirt!
I WANT TO EXTEND MY THANKS TO DISCO DREW AS HE IS
BEING CALLED ON THIS PAGE. I FEEL HONORED TO BE OFFERED
THE OPPORTUNITY TO BECOME A MEMBER OF YOUR CLUB. AS
LONG AS I DON'T HAVE TO PAY ANY DUES. I LOOK FORWARD
TO SEEING EVERYONE COME OPENING DAY. I FEEL THAT
THIS WILL BE THE BEST YEAR FOR THIS NEW TEAM YET. SEE
YA AT DA GAME.
Well, after returning home, tired and sun-burned,
the FUNatics are ready for Opening Day 2001. We all
had a great time in Florida, with the rookies
learning the ropes, and the vets teaching them and
learning a few new things ourselves, we all had time to
get to know one another. Look for some neat pics
coming soon from our trip and our antics.
Of course it couldn't go without saying "hey" to
the pioneers of sports entertainment. We'd like to
thank Tim and Wally, that fabulous duo who've made it
all happen to begin with. And of course, through the
ranks: Joe M., Jodi, Dave, Joe G., and everybody else at
Sports Magic Team who make it happen as well. A huge
thanks to the Cincinnati Reds, and our sponsor(s), first
with Coca Cola, and now with Pepsi. And who could
forget the first squad to entertain the fans at Reds
games: a special thanks to Coach, who taught me a lot;
Rick for being free-spirited; Steve who came out
everyday and busted his hump to have a good time; and
Nate, probably the best hoop-hat I've ever seen. That
second year was something else, entirely, with eight of
us then. And, of course, Nick. Nick has moved on to
bigger and better things, we all know, but he remains
with us, somehow in a strange and sordid way. Enough
already!
A few things changed over the 2000 season: Chuck
came back married, John got hitched at the end of the
season, and Brian became engaged. So, for the 2001
season, Brian is taking the year off to plan his
nuptials. Greg just dropped from the squad to take a
position with Carnival Cruise lines and be on the next
MTV's Real World. Brother and sister act Chuck and
Kristin, likewise are pursuing other interests. With the
2001 squad split, we picked up four new rookies.
Welcome to Stephen, Patrick, Rashawn, and Katy. They join
newly veteranized Ryan and Brad, thrice returning John,
and in his fourth year, Drew.
Missing from the "I Got Next" picture is Kristin
and Chuck. The 2000 season was another great year
filled with a lot of fun. Kristin, Chuck, John, Drew and
Brian returned from the '99 season with three rookies
joining the squad: Greg, Ryan, and Brian's brother Brad.
