LINDY HOP CRASH COURSE:
w/World Lindy Hop Champion, Ramona Staffeld *
Considered the "father" of Swing,
and named after Charles Lindburgh's famed 1927 "hop" across
the Atlantic, the Lindy Hop evolved in Harlem's swinging jazz
ballrooms, most notably the Savoy, during the late 1920s. It
gained worldwide popularity during WWII when it was exported by
American GIs. A renewed interest in the 8-count Lindy ushered in the
Swing resurgence of the 1990s, and sparked the desire among younger
generations worldwide to dance with a partner. Learn this true
American art form, danced at ALL of our events, and see how it's
playful dynamic style helped stir the partner dance craze we are
currently enjoying in the new millennium.
4:00-5:00 Fundamentals
Ramona will cover basic 8-count Lindy Hop, including Swing Out from closed & open positions, the Lindy Circle, and a brief review of partner Charlestons. Ramona welcomes all levels of lindy hoppers and anyone new with solid triple step swing ** and social dance experience. Come try it!
Practice Break
5:15-6:15 Technique (Prereq.: Lindy Hop basics).
Learn the technique behind leading & following and movement, to improve your partner connection and how you look & feel on the dance floor. Ramona says this is a must for all levels -- everyone new to lindy hop through advanced dancers looking to clean up and tune up already-acquired skills. Depending on the numbers and levels of participants, Ramona may have two partner rotation groups: one for first-timers and one for experienced dancers.
Dinner & Practice Break. Godfather's Pizza delivered. (REPLY with your # of slices along with your registration.)
6:30-7:30 Cool Moves (Prereq.: solid Lindy Hop basics).
Switch it up and rock it out on the dance floor with cool moves and varied steps. They're fun to do and look good too!
Practice Break
7:45-8:45 Improvisation & Styling (Prereq.: solid Lindy Hop basics). Learn creative ways to fill in the last counts in your Swing Out and how to keep your Lindy Hop fresh, fun and playful.

DANCE PARTY:
8:30-12:00 includes 8:40 Swing Basics
lesson, hors d'oeuvres, cookies, pumpkin pie,
refreshments, and 9:00 to midnight DJ'd dancing on a
softly-chandelier-lit huge wood ballroom dance floor to all eras of
swing + other dance styles as requested.

* Ramona Staffeld is known internationally for her
wildly graceful style and spontaneity on the dance floor. She was only
14 when legendary swing dancer Frankie Manning introduced her to New
York at the Mid-Summer Night Swing series at Lincoln Center. Since
then she has been teaching and performing all over the world. In 1998
and 1999, she placed first at the American Lindy Hop Championships in
the junior division. As a founding member of Minnie's Moochers, she
taught and performed in Singapore in 2000. That same year she also
performed in Tokyo representing Swing Dance America. In 2002, Ramona
became a World Lindy Hop Champion in Stockholm, Sweden. In addition to
swing, Ramona is skilled in classic and modern dance techniques. She
has taught at The Julliard School, Bard College, Skidmore College, and
the Joffrey Ballet school, as well as Lindy Hop festivals around the
world.
