I don't recall seeing any recent updates about the state of the Cedar
Lake Trail, so I thought I would tell you what I saw on a ride Sunday:
1. The downtown trailhead is back in use since they built a new ramp up
to the street level last fall (though it is harder to get to now from
other areas of downtown, at least for me). Regarding the reason for the
closure and reconstruction, you can now see parts of the new Twins
stadium sticking up from a block away at the trailhead.
2. The Minnetonka Blvd bridge reconstruction is all done now and looks
nice - I hadn't known they would replace the open girder style bridge
with a solid masonry and earth fill structure with somewhat of a tunnel
through it for the trail.
3. On a shorter term issue, the trail is fairly clear of snow (except
one small area on the Kenilworth Connector trail that is shaded by a
large bridge and is always slow to melt) and of meltwater, though there
are still areas where the pedestrian lane is covered in snow and they
walk in the bike lane instead.
So get out there and ride, but keep your eyes open for local problem
areas.
