I always liked John Wallace. He had exactly the
skills a team needs coming off the bench. Energy and a
soft touch(He could score!). He didn't play defence,
but many of the great teams had an instant offence
guy coming off the bench. My favorite was Vinnie
Johnson. If he's hot you play him, if he's cold you sit
him. It's too bad that Wallace has it in mind that he
can be a starter in the NBA. A strong 6th man can
have a big impact and earn big money. If Wallace could
accept the role I would take him back ahead of
O'Neal.

O'Neal has been buried on the bench in Portland so I
don't have strong feeling of his offensive skills.
Similar in size to Wallace but does he have the shooting
skills which the Raptors need for the second unit? If he
is just a garbage grabber, we already have 2 in
Davis and John Thomas. There does seem to be an opening
on the bench for a swingman who can play some power
forward and small forward, but it should be someone who
can come off the bench and score. I would wait and
see what other teams offer Wallace and then offer him
a better deal.

Has anyone heard any rumours about the raptors
trading or signing players..??? I've been away for the
past few weeks, and i wanna get caught up with the
latest info....

The only thing, i've been hearing
is a possible signing with Derek Fisher... I hope
the Raptors can get a PG in the off-season cause i
don't think Alvin Williams can handle this team..
I heard long before the draft that T.O. were
getting new uni's for next season. There were rumours
that they would be unveiled around draft time, but now
I am hearing that they will be availiable to public
eyes around the start of training camp.

Some
people have also told me of occasions that they have
gone to by a Vince Carter top and the assistant has
told them not to bother as the new kit would be out
soon.

I havn't seen any draft day photo's of Rado'
holding a T.O. top as you would expect after the draft
and have looked everywhere.

Please help
me.

p.s. Any news on Lawson? I know he was in the CBA and
is a FA and that he put up good numbers in the
summer tourney. What are the chances of us signing him?

There seem to be a few Marks fans out there. I am
afraid I don't think he will amount to anything. He has
decent size but nothing special. In fact he is ordinary
in every way. The Eurpoean leagues are built on guys
who are just like him. They can shoot some, have
middle size, run the floor and they are poor defenders.
He is under contract and his teammates appear to
like him. So the Raptors keep him around as 12 man. If
he wasn't under contract he would be playing in
Europe no doubt.

I think everyone should give up
on the Jermaine O'Neal sweepstakes. Any player who
has 10 or so choices isn't likely to come to Toronto.
The Raptors only have a chance with free agents who
have very few choices, because they are either
unwanted or have priced themselves out of many teams
budgets. I know this is pessimistic, but it will hopefully
change once the Raptors make the playoffs.

The new Raps schedule is posted on the official

I'm starting to like Derek Fisher more and more.
His play may not be spectacular, but he seemed to get
the job done in L.A. And I like your comments on this
subject, members. Keep it up!

*
accfan99 and

deserving). Brian, for his club enthusiasm (he joined all my

I have to agree with Brian. Last year Fisher
showed he could shoot and get to the hole. He was good
enough that he sent Derek Harper to the bench. Harper
was the starter for the Lakers when the season began.
I have only seen Fisher play about 10 games, so I
can't say he is the answer. He isn't a great
distibuter(but that might have been Kobe's fault). Like most of
the others, I wouldn't give him a long term contract.
Three years maximum.

The problem I am having is
that Williams was so bad last year, that maybe I am
imagining these other guys are better than they really are.
It would be terrible to sign a guy who is a lesser
player than Williams. It might be wishful thinking, but
I feel a new point guard will make the difference
between just missing or just making the playoffs. Getting
the right guy could be a turning point for the
franchise. Pick the wrong guy and all the papers will be
saying they should have picked a guard in the draft. I
don't envy Grunwald and Carter this decision.

I guess Snow has decided to stay with the Sixers.
I can't say I'm too disappointed. He certainly
isn't good enough for a 7 year contract. That is what
he supposedly is getting to stay with Philadelphia.
I guess it is good of Snow to let the Raps know
this early. If it had dragged on, some of the other
guards might have already signed. I wonder what plan B
is?
Like Brian, I am a baseball fanatic at heart. I
followed the Blue Jays since ... oh ... I was born. My
first sports memory was going to the old Exhibition
Stadium for the first time. I was in great anticipation
of seeing hall-of-famer Reggie Jackson face the
Jays. Never got to see him. But Buck Martinez did hit
the winning home run.

Regarding basketball,
the first concrete memory I have of the NBA is
watching Magic vs. Jordan in the '91 finals. I didn't
follow Magic much, so I was rooting for the Bulls. I
also remember a specific play: that "spectacular"
layup that Jordan did in which he switched from his
righthand to his left. I was in awe. Of course, Chicago won
easily in the finals and I remember the celebration
around the Bulls clubhouse: Jordan hugging and kissing
the championship trophy for the first time. A great
moment.

Also, I vaguely remember Larry Bird and the Celtics in
the mid-80s and the Bad Boy Pistons of the late 80s,
early 90s.

But perhaps the greatest basketball
moment I have ever witnessed (on TV) was the '92 NCAA
semifinal game (I think) between Duke and Kentucky. With
seconds left, Christian Laettner scored the winning
bucket after receiving an inbounds pass from Grant Hill.
The football pass was just as incredible as the
18-footer.
I was watching basketball when the Doctor still
played and I remember Ewing playing for the Hoyas(I
didn't like him then either). It was hard to find anyone
to talk to back then. Nice to see there are a few
Canadians finally catching on to the great game. I like the
basketball as much as I like hockey, although I could be
crucified for that here in the heart of Ontario. What are
the first memories of the NBA for you? I can tell you
that Dr. J was special even near the end of his
career.

I must say that the 1 month vacation period that
the NBA is having this year sure is boring. I mean I
never even heard of the summer league until this year.
Who cares? I am sure glad Carter or McGrady aren't
playing, with all the injuries that have been happening.
