First game I have seen this year and there was a lot of ups and downs.
They rebounded better (48-44) and that was what kept them in the game,
but their offensive execution was atrocious. I'm not exactly sure what
offense they were running. Looked like last year with Rafer. They took
too mnay threes resulting in below 40% and that won't win many games.
I'm a little frustrated with Mitchell because I still feel he doesn't
respect the physical aspect of the game. Matchups were a serious
problem in this game.
Players
PG
Mike James is a fine defender just like advertised and I like his
size, he's built. He really played pretty well except for a couple bad
decisions.
Calderon brought some nice energy in the 2nd quarter which created a
10 point run for the raps. Energy is a key asset for a bench player. I
like him in short bursts to change the pace.
PF
Bosh was both good and bad. He put up big scoring and rebounding
numbers, but he missed too many shots and I didn't like his shot
selection at all. He definatly should have passed more. I still don't
feel good when he takes his jumpshot.
CV can score in all kinds of ways, but if he doesn't get open then he
fades into the background. Not exactly a physical specimen either.
He's in good basketball shape, but certainly not overly muscled.
Jamieson had his way with CV.
C
Woods played well enough but only 12 minutes and should have played
more. Araujo was a nonfactor. Bonner even played some centre and was
the worst player on the floor. If Mitchell needs to be questioned then
it is about how he utilized these players. Nothing will change until
he realizes that he needs to play a centre for the team to win. Its
sad really because coaching is a major issue as relating to centre.
SF
Graham had a nice start to the game and did a pretty good job
defensively. He even matched up well with Jamieson a couple times.
He's got great size for defending both big and small players. He had
some bad turnovers in the 2nd half and then was pulled.
Peterson was good off the bench. Probably the steadiest player of the
game for the raps.
SG
Rose played well. He hit big shots in traffic, but the offense was way
too stagnant and he had to bail them out many times. Turned the ball
over 5 times but there really wasn't anyone on the team who shot well
so there wasn't many options. If anyone wants Rose to shoot less, then
Mitchell better come up better execution. Rose is the only guy who can
score when things break down.
