Villanueva's a tweener. I thought you hate those. He's too small and
too weak to play 5. Too big and too slow to play 3. The team basically
drafted Bosh's backup for the next three years with their highest pick.
When the GM said Villan could play the 5, I laughed. You know Sam's
just itching to use him there the way he did with Marshall. He's not
even as good defensively as Marshall. Now they're accepting a lesser
version of him, at centre no less?
Freewheel, you've preached "size" all this time. The team just drafted
an undersized centre and an undersized SF in Graham, and you're not
the least bit upset? I'm surprised.
This draft was beyond a disappointment. The team says they solved
their bigman issues, but they really didn't. Villan is a step down
from Marshall in the post: rebounding-wise, defense-wise, and
offense-wise. Graham isn't much of a rebounder or scorer in the post.
If the Raptors played "by the book," it would've landed them a big
guard with loads of potential in Green and a big SF with long arms who
can do a bit of everything, especially defend.
Taft was still available in the second round. If I want an
underachieving bigman, I would rather have him 41 than at 7. At least,
Taft is strong and plays defense.
