Fellow RFR guys and gals - anyone planning on taking their tandem out for this week's Friday Lite?
Not sure yet of our plans, but I'm hoping to ride down from Solana Beach through Del Mar on the tandem to meet the squadron at Camino del Sur on your transit of the 56 out to the coast.
My name is Christian & I live in Carmel Valley & have
been on your e-mail list for some time. This looks like a ride in my neck of
the woods & would like to join you on Friday, if ok.

Friday Lite !
Hello Fun Riders!
FRIDAY LITE!
Date: Nov. 20th
Next Friday we are continuing our quest for new RFR blood with a
lazy lollipop from the start of the bike path on Rancho
Penasquitos/56 (Azuaga St across from the road).....then down and across
Fairbanks Ranch and down to Del Mar where we will either have coffee at the
Panniken or continue on to Al Tarkingtons house and have coffee there (I
haven't told Al about this yet-haha!) It's up to Al! Anyway then we'll return on
the 56 bike path to the cars. This is definitely an eazy peazy ride and tandem
friendly etc. etc......
Those biscuits who feel the need for added mileage feel free to start in
Borrego or the Beach or wherever and meet us at the start at 9am. Myself I will
be happy to do a slomo ride and take in the morning while
enjoying a steaming hot cup of joe at Al's place overlooking the surf. hee hee.
Start: Azuaga St/Rancho Penasquitos across from Bike Path.
So your trip to Al’s is 15 miles and you’ll be there by 10? Is
that right?
My trip to Al’s from Carlsbad is 20.. so I’d have to leave by
around 8:40

sound like if you are leaving at 9 I may be able to leave my house at the same

Sorry for the delay on the Borrego Double Ordeal pics. My main computer is still getting the virus hose down so I had to install all my photo software onto Sherry's box. Anyhoo...here they are...enjoy...
Looks like we are going to have a good crowd on Friday. I hope that our resident polka dot people... Steve H, Helium Girl and Steve Elliott show up to kick some NCCC butt! : )
I heard from Al & Steve, and Steve O go some wheel shimmy and decided to return to Harrah's via South Grade.

I've ridden with the club in the past (while as a partner of Burley Design Cooperative many years ago - on a business road trip); also 'worked' with Kirk's bike shop in town. I now own a bicycle touring business, and we're trying to get the word out about a couple of tours coming up that might be of particular interest to club members - especially for those wanting to beat the winter blues:
California Dreaming Holiday tour (Dec. 26-31)
Maui Triple Challenge Tour (Feb. 2010)
Amgen Tour of California (May 2010)
We do offer some nice club/group discounts for any of our tours, by the way.

Hello Fun Riders!
Jeff 2 sent me an email saying that the North County Cycling Club was making noise about a Fri 13th ride up Palomar. Imagine! Another club riding on our Friday in our back country? The noive! He then suggested we join them. Okee dokey pokey! So I want all you mountain goats, weight weenies, beasts and dogs to show up and give the Ramona Fun Riders a good showing. I would lead the RFR pack barking and yipping up the hill of course but I need to make sure my new baby gears work so I'll do the Czar Sweep Muffin Man style, which of course means enjoying the climb and being social....
We'll start at the Henshaw Store in time for a 9am roll time, head West on 76 and then up the steep side. There was some NCCC noise about having lunch at Mom's and also an extra credit jaunt up to the telescope. Then the long downhill on the East Grade all the way to the cars. Yeah Baby! It's always a pleasure to end a ride going downhill!
Bring winter gear as it is will be (you notice I didn't say "may" or "can" be) cold at the top.
Also congratulations are in order for all the RFR who did the Borrego Double.

Kirk,
Do you have an edge where you can see the files on it as a drive on your computer?
If so, you should be able to just copy the gpx file off of the edge and send it.
In terms of Training center. It looks like that exports a tcx file.
You find the route and right click on it and then choose create course from Activity. It should open the course tab with the new course highlighted. You can give it a name that means something to you instead of the default name of newcourse1 or 2 etc.
This is where you can put the course back into your Garmin to follow the route.
You select the course, then on the top there is an icon with an arrow, the one on the right pushes the course back out to your Edge for you to use in the future to follow as a course.
But to send the course to me, you would right click and say export. Save the .tcx file to your desktop or my documents.. somewhere you will find it to attach to an email.
I think I can use the .tcx file to convert back to a .gpx to upload to bikely. Bikely only takes .gpx files
MapMyRide will import tcx or gpx.
It also will directly import from your attached edge, so an easy way to do the whole thing is just to go to mapmyride.com go to create course and “upload directly from my Garmin”. If you do it this way, you can send me the link to the route. I think that it will also export a course back to you to use to follow.
Let me know how it goes.
Thanks,
Judy

No, You don’t have to mark anything.
If I do a ride I can come home and upload my ride then push it back out to my garmin as a course or route to follow. If Burt takes me on some strange ride and I don’t know where the heck I am I can upload it and do the ride the next week myself without having any route sheet.
All your saved rides can be uploaded to bikely or mapmyride as they are. Then the can be downloaded again for anyone to use.
If you want a route sheet printed out though.. which is kind of not necessary if you are using the Garmin for the ride then you might have to manually fill in the route sheet on Bikely with street names.
On your garmin there is a mode where it will give you a line drawing of your route which you can zoom in and out on. On the 605 and 705 your route is on the Map. It will also give you your location in relation (on) to the route. Just like in a car with GPS software. You just stay on the line. It will show the turns in advance of the turns..and will tell you immediately when you are off route.
If you can send me the .gpx from the ride you did last Friday if you have it, I can upload it to bikely for the next time you want to do it.

Yes Jeff, thanks for doing that work.
FYI for anyone interested. I know that Al and Jeff have Garmins. I have shared routes with Steve H in the past.
If you upload your ride into Sporttracks or the Garmin software, you can then export the route into a GPX file to attach to an email and send to some else who can then follow the route on their unit. (after pushing the file to your Edge or Forerunner depending on which unit you have there are different ways to do this, all easy)
The GPX file can also be uploaded to Bikely or MapMyRide so that it can be mapped for everyone from there for future use without manually mapping the route.
Anyone can then download the course to follow at some later time.
These sites are made for route sharing. You can download peoples rides in other areas if you are looking for rides to do and follow the course on your Garmin 205, 305 605 or 705 plus other Garmin units.

Judy,
I currently use my Garmin as a bike computer and to download basic ride numbers. Don't you have to mark the turns with waypoints or something if you want to make a route out of your ride?

Here is the detour Al and I added to the ride:
Instead of riding up to Lomas Santa Fe from Flower Hill, go left out of the mall and head east on Via de la Valle.
Turn right at El Camino Real (Mary's Tack Shop)
Left on San Dieguito Road out to Fairbanks Ranch
Left on El Apajo. Follow it as it turns right.
Left on Calzada del Bosque (at Chino's)
Cross Via de la Valle, go about 100 yards up the hill, and make your first right on Los Arboles
When Los Arboles ends, go right on Via del Alba
When Via del Alba ends, go left on La Gracia. Take this all the way into RSF, stay straight.
Road becomes La Flecha. Stay on it until it dumps you out on Linea del Cielo.
Go a few hundred yards, go right on Via de la Valle, then a quick left onto Las Colinas (beginning of Stud Loop)
Las Colinas becomes El Vuelo. Take it until you turn right on La Valle Plateada.
Go a couple hundred yards, turn right on S6 (Linea del Cielo), and have a nice ride out the Del Dios Highway.

Hi Fun Riders,
As many of the club "Bisquits" were psyching up for the Borrego Double, the Czar talked me into coming out of semi-retirement this past Friday to lead one of my "Muffin Rides". I'm glad he did, because we had a great turnout of 7 strong riders! The weather was great and the pace was a mellow 14 mph average for the 47 mile loop with 3000' of climbing. Everyone seemed to enjoy the route and the day! We finished up with a decadent 1 & 1/2 hour lunch at Chueys. Thanks to Al, Tom, Don, Bob, Jeff 2, and Bent (sometimes) Steve for joining me on this one! Here are the pics---

I can probably help you if you tell me which one you use.
If you think it is something you’d like to know how to do, I’d
be happy to help. If it is something you want to live without, I can live
without the .gpx file.
Thanks,
Judy
