There will be no skatenight this Wednesday. Because of lack of interest, Skate World Northwest would like to do something else on Wednesday nights. However, skatenight has changed to the second Monday of every month. The next skatenight will be Monday, September 13th. I will be sending out an e-mail to remind you. Hope to see you there.
I am in the process of getting flyers done to pass out. I'd like to thank Don Baker for making a contribution to help getting some flyers made and to Roland Sanchez for helping make some temporary flyers.
Thanks,
James D. Svetlik
Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail - 50x more storage than other providers!
Because Rainbow Skatenight and the rink have been struggling to get more people to support our charities by coming out for a fun night of skating, Rainbow Skatenight will no longer roll every second and fourth Wednesday of the month. Due to lack of interest it has been changed to the SECOND MONDAY of every month.
If each of you could please respond to this e-mail and give me your physical address, I would like to come by and discuss next year and drop off some flyer's.
A tentative schedule has been put together:
September 13th - YWCA of Greater Austin
October 11th - Project Transitions
November 8th - Out Youth
December 13th - AMP
*please let me know if there is a problem here
The original idea of having a designated charity for each skatenight was so that our charities would help put out the word and get people involved. Please be thinking of other ideas for next year and put some thoughts together on what you would like to see happen so that we can continue to have a great physical activity away from the bar scene. I would like to hear your advice when I come see you this month.
This week Wednesday, August 11th, we will be rolling as always from 8:00pm - 10:30pm at Skate World Northwest located at 9415 Anderson Mill Road. For rink information you can call 258-8886.
Last week we had a good turn out and it was lots of fun. We were able to raise $30.00 for AMP. Everyone there look like they were having a blast, I know I did as well. The rink is going under some construction, but it is not affecting us skaters.
This weeks charity will be for Waterloo Counseling Center. Come out and have some fun with us while helping raise some money for their organization at the same time.
It that time again and it has been a while since we all skated!!!
This Wednesday, July 28th our charity will be AMP. We are rolling from 8:00pm - 10:30pm at 9415 Anderson Mill Road. For rink info call 258-8886.
Also this Saturday July 31, 2004 AMP presents Austin's hottest pool party, LAVA LUAU VI..."Man Overboard!!!" The Party is from 2-6 pm and as always it is at the Metropolis Pool/Clubhouse located at 2200 S. Pleasant Valley Drive.
Tonight ABC will be filming clips for a reality show which will air on ABC this fall. It is called Wife Swap.
Sorry this is so last minute, but it was suppose to happen Wednesday and the poll that the transformer was on fell at the rink, causing a power outage and the rink was forced to close.
Please make it there if you can this evening Friday the 16th from 5:30 - 7:30 for your chance to be on national tv.
This is a gay oriented show so they want to our crew to be there. Guess they are on a deadline, because they are very persistant.
Due to electrical outage at Skate World Northwest, there will not be a skate night tonight Wednesday July 14, 2004.
Sorry for the inconvenience. ABC was supposed to be there filming a clip for Wife Swap however due to the power outage Skate World was forced to close tonight.
I was really looking forward to seeing everyone tonight and was very excited, but I will be in touch regarding the next skate date.
Charities, like I asked, please help me by sending out the newletter I just sent to everyone you can. I would also like to see a turnout in staff there and like to talk to everyone I can from each charity. Come and enjoy a night of skating with me and help me get this skating shindig' back on the right track.
Put on your best skating gear and come out on Wednesday night July 14th for something special. The reality series "Wife Swap" will be filming during Rainbow Skatenight. We are hoping for a very big crowd, so tell all your friends. I will be willing to bet that the more "roller discoish" you dress, the more likely you will to be on tv. So come join the fun and help raise money for Aids Services of Austin.
As always skatenight is from 8:00pm - 10:30pm at Skate World Northwest located at 9415 Anderson Mill Rd. For rink info call 258-8886.
Dear Charity members, Friends, and Rainbow Angels:
As some of you may know, since 9-11 our headcount at Rainbow Skatenight has dropped dramatically!!! Some figures of what we raised:
2000 - $1387.75
2001 - $3206.00
2002 - $3394.00
2003 - $624.50
I'm sure that most of you have seen the amount of money that you had gotten from Rainbow Skate is not as near as what you have received in the past. The truth is, we are in big trouble. Skate World Northwest took over new owners, and I have been told that the headcount has to come up or we will lose our Skatenight!!! I don't know about you, but this is one of the very few events you can come to for physical activity without alcohol or going to the bar for a good time. I would hate to see this event go; I have been trying to get the word out more, and it is not working. The more people that come, the more of a chance you will earn money for your charity. We have supported you for some time, and now I need help to help this event to continue!!!! You forwarding Skatenight newsletter will help a lot. Advertising and having staff come out will help out as well. Spread the word to all your friends? Do you want to see this
event go? I do not ask for much from you all and would like to raise more money for your charity with your help!!! Please e-mail me with comments and suggestions. Also I would like to have a meeting with someone from each organization. Please let me know if this will be better to do at night or during the day. Please respond soon!!!

The last Rainbow Skatenight there were a lot of new faces, and I hope to see many of them again. Wednesday's theme was "Olivia," and it looked like everyone had fun getting down to the 70's. I for one had a blast. We were able to raise $28 for AMP.
YWCA of Greater Austin is hosting it's first Dog Topia fundraiser and celebration event on Saturday May 15th. The Free family affair celebrates man and woman's best friend- our dogs. The fundraiser will be held between 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.@ 2111 Parker Lane of IH-35 and Oltorf in the Park behind Latter Day Saints. It's been an ongoing process to try to get the word out about Rainbow Skatenight. I've teamed up with AMP to hopst an event together at Rainbow Skatenight on April 28th. This will help get the word out. They have quite a large network.
I will be needing some help to pass out Flyers around the bars soon. I was thinking hitting the clubs Friday and Saturday night, hence those are the busiest bar nights. If any of you go to steaknights or to the bar regularly, please let me know, so we can get together, I'd like you to pass out some flyers for me.
Please contact me at 296-0381 so we could discuss some things if you are interested.
I will be sending out another newsletter to let you all know what night I would like to get together and have a mass recruiting, barhopping, fun evening.
Thanks for all of your support!!!!!
See you all Wednesday, March 24th for skatenight!!!
I've written up a summary of the tasks that I do to run Rainbow
Rollerskating and a suggested division of responsibilities for two
people to carry Rainbow Rollerskating forward. I have had a couple of
people say that they were willing to take on some responsibility to run
the group. This is great. What I'd like is two committed volunteers
to step up for these roles, or further discussion on how to break tasks
down into manageable pieces.

Well I want to help keep it going but it
seems like no one person is willing to say yes and take it on so far.Unfortunately, I will not be able to skate in
the near future as I broke my foot (slipped off a ladder) Saturday.I will crutch in to see everyone anyway.

Melton, Yes I think once a month is a good idea.
We'll have to see who has volunteered for what and
if it's enough to keep things going. Also, if by chance Gay
Skate night ends up going away, perhaps we could meet sometimes at an
"adult" night at some rink. We could use this web group to help
coordinate it.
