I had the priviledge of keeping Coach Tim Seaman posted on the splits as they
came in from the World Youth 10,000m Walk. The German led from start to finish
while recording a comfortable 18 second victory and a 40 second pr. It took
several minutes for the results to flow in after the first three were reported.
16 of the 24 finishers recorded personal bests in probably one of the fastest
youth races in history. Trevor busted his pr by 73 seconds!!
Once the still "unofficial" results were posted and I reported Trevor's result,
I think my hearing went - thanks Tim! Hey Tim, you know your athlete now has
the fastest 10k time by any US athlete this year. ;->
I'd be remiss if I didn't point out all of the adversity that Trevor had to
endure to reach this summit. After a fabulous race in Eugene, he was force to
take a red-eye home so he could get to Michigan for the solo race the Youth
Committee was making him do to qualify for World Youth. When he arrived in
Ypsilanti, MI to race, they didn't even have a race for him. So they made him
race the next day. He then had to stay in Detroit at his own expense until they
flew out to Italy. In Italy, he wasn't allowed to call his coach and his
training time was highly limited.
Yet with all of these factors, he has shown the mental fortitude to overcome
these distractions. This is a true sign of a champion.
My hat is off to Trevor, his family and Tim - Congrats to all!
