The Essex County 10,000m track Championship on the 7th May welcomes guests.
For information, see:
http://www.RaceWalkingAssociation.btinternet.co.uk/TempInf1.html
or go via the R.W.A. Fixtures Pages.
As this race is fitted into the Woodford Green with Essex Ladies Combined Events
meeting, there is unfortunately no scope for including supporting races.
We look forward to seeing you - especially Essex-qualified contestants, who were
a bit thin on the ground last year!
With best wishes.
Peter Cassidy
Chairman, Essex County A.A.

Peter's son provides the following information:
The provisional arrangement is that Peter's funeral will be held on the 18th May
at All Saints' Church, Scraptoft, at 1:00 p.m.
This is where Sylvia's funeral took place last year and is on the eastern fringe
of Leicester.
A further message will be posted here when the arrangements are confirmed.

Guten Abend
A message for all the racewalkers in the London area, I got an email
from a Canadian racewalking friend from the other London. Can anyone
help out this South African walker. Will there be an Enfield League
race whilst he is in the UK?
Hope all is well back home and they have cleaned up the Mall after the
Royal Wedding, I'm coming home for the Olympic test event later this
month.
best wishes from Deutschland

For those planning on attending tomorrow who want postcodes / OS grid
references for their satnav:
All Saints Church, Scraptoft: LE7 9SN
Natural Burial Ground: SK 662 066
Black Boy Pub, Hungarton: LE7 9JR
If you don't have Sat-Nav then Scraptoft is best found by turning off the
A47 east of Leicester at place called Thurnby. Turn north off A47 onto
station road (that's left if travelling away from Leicester towards
Peterborough). At the end of station road there is a mini-roundabout. Church
Hill is directly in front of you but is one way so you need to approach from
the opposite direction so turn left onto Scraptoft Lane then first right
into Scraptoft Rise (one way). After about 125 metres the road bends sharp
right and becomes Main Street. After about 80 meters bear right into Church
Hill. The Church is about 100m up on your left but there isn't any parking
outside so I would suggest turning right into Stocks Road before you reach
the Church where you should be able to park. Please park considerately.
For anyone who needs to use public transport:
To plan a journey, visit
<http://www.travelineeastmidlands.co.uk/em/XSLT_TRIP_REQUEST2?language=en&ti
meOffset=15> Traveline
The main bus between Scraptoft and Leicester is the Arriva 56 from
Humberstone Gate Stand E3. It circles through Scraptoft Village, travelling
along Covert Lane, down through the David Wilson estate, along Beeby Road
and up Church Hill, then down Station Lane, turning left into Pulford Drive.
The 56 runs every half an hour Mon-Sat (nothing on Sundays). The first bus
from Leicester leaves at 07.09 and the last at 18.19. The first bus from
Scraptoft leaves at 06.35 and the last at 16.45.
An alternative is the Arriva 53/53A which runs every day (including Sundays)
much more frequently than the 56 and until 23.00. It stops at the top of
Bowhill Grove, just before the Scraptoft Village sign on Scraptoft Lane,
giving a shortish walk into the village. Finally, the First Bus 38 'Red
Line' to Nether Hall stops on New Romney Crescent from where it is a short
walk along Hamilton Lane to Main Street in Scraptoft Village. The bus runs
every 15 minutes weekdays and hourly on Sundays

We regret to announce the death in Australia, shortly after his eightieth

in that event in the 1956 Olympic Games.
We offer our deepest sympathy to his widow and family at this sad moment.

http://www.uka.org.uk/media/news/may-2011/23-05-11-weekend-round-up/
We had great support from those who travelled out to watch plus the local ex-pat
population. Johanna Jackson gave a demonstration of real class in the final race
of the day after a lengthy period of injury disrupted training - lots more to
come. Pretty solid from the rest of the largest GB Team since 2000, which given
four were debutants in a GB vest is very pleasing.
Cheers,
