Does this really matter? "Whats in a name"?
As a parent with a youngster in the sport, I am grateful to the R.W.A. for
providing my daughter with the opportunity of good competition and hopefully
the opportunity to make friends in the sport and enjoy a fun weekend away in
Dublin.
Hopefully some of these juniors will stay in the sport and make up the 'real'
England teams of the future.
Cheers,
Bridget

I am worried there seems to be some confusion at best or at worst
misinformation occuring over this event. It should be noted that England
Athletics has picked a team for this event, that team is:
Luke FinchDominic KingDan KingJoanna JacksonLisa KehlerNo junior or under 23
athletes were picked due to it being the EA championships for these ages the
same weekend.
This team was selected with a view to providing opportunities for prospective
candidates for next year's Commonwealth Games. EA are the governing body of
Athletics for England and reserve the right, alone, to pick England teams. The
RWA have selected a team, as is quite clearly their right. The issue is that
some people are inaccurately according the latter team, the inappropiate title of
an England team, there can only be the one England Team, that is the EA one.
Lets hope all our athletes, who ever they are, are able to perform to their
best.

Lawrence was a good friend of my Dad and I, and will be sorely missed by us
both.
He always laughed and joked with myself every time I visited the UK and its
such a shock to think he wont be there the next time.
My sincere condolences to all his family and friends.

Laurence's Funeral will be held on Tuesday, 9th June at 12:00 noon at Forest
Park Crematorium, Forest Road, Hainault, Essex, IG6 3HP (Tel.: 0205 012236).
The family request is for no flowers, but donations may be made to St.Francis
Hospice.
Readers of this will note that Laurence's funeral is on the day of the first of
this season's Woodford Tuesday Walks, of which he was a great supporter,
especially when we were down to a handful of competitors and were struggling to
keep the walk in the programme.
It is hoped that walkers will come to Ashton Playing Fields at 6:40 p.m. and
show their respect for Laurence in a way that he might have wished - by a few
moments' silence and a good hard race.
Peter Cassidy
What really sad shocking news, Laurence Dordoy was one of those characters who
was always cheerful and greeted any level of competitor to all races with
enthusiasm and friendship. Although Laurence and I only met at a few races a
year, his love and energy for race walking was endless. My condolences go this
his family and friends. Verity

World Class Racewalking Alumni, and Future Alumni!
As my Williamsburg '09 clinic alumni already know, biomechanist, world-renowned
shoe designer, and 2009 Pan Am Cup 20k Team member, Ian Whatley, has been
building the USA Racewalking Training Center in Greenville, South Carolina. The
site features a 400m track, athlete housing, a weight training facility, and a
four-camera, dual-monitor video treadmill system for state-of-the-art technique
analysis. The wooded 40-acre site is also bisected by dirt and paved walking
trails and there are miles of great road walking courses beginning at the
Training Center's front gates.Â
I'm holding my first World Class Racewalking camp at the Training Center in late
September/early October, culminating at the USATF National 5K Championship in
Kingsport, TN. The camp will focus specifically on getting you race-ready for
the event, and is being billed as a training/taper camp. The goal is to have my
World Class Racewalking team, and interested others, as ready as possible for
the Kingsport race. Everything is included in the camp fee, from transportation
from Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport (GSP) to housing at the
Training Center or local hotels, meals, transportation to Kingsport, TN for the
race, hotels in Kingsport, and transportation back to Greenville or to Kingsport
Tri-Cities Airport (TRI). The camp runs from Monday September 28th - Sunday
October 4th, 2009.Â
The USA Racewalking Training Center camp is in addition to, not a replacement
for, my 19th Annual World
Class Racewalking Training Camp, held once again at the National Training
Center in Clermont, FL in late November. The annual camp features first-class
housing, and a truly world-class training facilty. When comparing the two, think
of my annual camp as Drago vs. the USA Racewalking Training Center camp's Rocky
Balboa in Rocky IV. The Greenville facilities are a bit more Spartan than
Clermont's, but if I'm not mistaken, Rocky won that one... Both are unique,
educational, fun racewalking experiences, but your personality and goals will
dictate which camp is right for you. The Florida camp is suitable for all
levels, including marathon and ultra-walkers, while the USA Racewalking Training
Center camp is specifically geared for racewalkers planning to compete at the
National 5k in Kingsport. The brochure for the Greenville/Kingsport camp is
downloadable at www.racewalking.org/greenville.pdf while the Florida training
camp's brochure is available at www.racewalking.org/camplfie.pdf
In other news, I've added several weekend clinic dates to my summer/fall '09
schedule. World Class Racewalking is coming to you on Long Island, NY; Hamilton,
Ontario; Indianapolis; Denver;Â Bellingham, WA; Louisville; Dallas, and Santa
Cruz, Aruba; as well as our 4th Annual Advanced Weekend Clinic in Solana Beach,
CA. Clinic dates, registration forms and online entry are available
at:Â www.racewalking.org/clinics.htmÂ
And finally, Ian and I, who have been putting on camps and clinics together
since 1992, will be conducting a 2-3 hour clinic the a
fternoon before the Kingsport race. Details on that mini-clinic will be
available when Bobby Baker (Kingsport 5K race director) updates the event
website with the 2009 information and entry form. We'll make sure it's a fun,
educational event that won't wear you out before your 5k! Check back at
www.kingsportracewalk.com soon for details.Â
Looking forward to seeing you at a World Class Racewalking clinic or camp soon!

Anyone have a link to races in Austria for 2010 (or the 2009 calendar)? I
have an Junior athlete who might be there next spring and i'd like to have

Hi Everyone,
I believe that we have Carl Thompson coming to the Island for Sunday's 20k
Manx National Championship.
Is anyone else making the journey as it could be quite an exciting race with
Parti and Peter Kaneen also possible entrants?

Could you please edit my surname correctly? It seems that there has some

Thank you John.
Could you please edit my surname correctly? It seems that there has some
mispelling when I entered the race.
I look forward to meeting you soon.
Many thanks,

Results from Victoria Park are now up on the website...
http://www.racewalkuk.com/Results.asp
...and the new edition of Race Walking Record (792) which may have been spotted
at Victoria Park for the first time is currently being processed and posted.
Please be patient as it the first issue I have produced, and I have a lot of
stamps to lick! Publication date from now on is the 1st of the month.

Unfortunately, someone seems to have pilfered the sheet of E-mail addresses of
those who wanted copies of the results from last Sunday.
Anyone wishing for a copy, please send me a message (off-group) saying so and
one will be sent immediately.
Alternatively, they will, of course, appear on RacewalkUk and in Race Walking
Record.
Sorry for the difficulty, but who can be trusted?
Best wishes from Peter Cassidy.

Salut toute le monde
We are thinking of travelling out to France later this month to watch
the European Cup of Racewalking, see how the French do in comparison
to our efforts in Leamington 2007. Race day is Sunday 24th May. In
2007 we had an opening ceremony and "supporters races" on the
Saturday before race day on Sunday. Does anyone know if there will be
something similar on the Saturday in Metz? There is nothing about the
Saturday on http://www.metz2009.fr/2nd_language/index.html at the
moment although I'm sure this web page will be updated as the event
gets closer.
merci beaucoup
tony....

The published closing date for the National Y.A.G. and Open Walks in Victoria
Park, London, is the 26th April. As we seem to have chosen a Sunday, we'll keep
the list open for a couple more days, so hurry....
Open competitors, but not Y.A.G. Championship competitors, can enter on the day.
Details are at:
