Well decisions like this make it a self-fulfilling prophesy, don't
they? Anyone in the top 8 in 2012 will have had altitude training,
warm-weather training, physio support, coaching, and prior top-class
competitive experience that it is hardly possible for any normal
person in any country to finance out of their own resources. I.E. ALL
will have had support and will have had the right decisions from
their national federations. If you don't get an Olympic place despite
making the B standard in only your second race at the distance, it
sends a load and clear message about whether you will get the rest of
the package.
