Ice Weasels @ Bat Now - Beer Later
When the game was supposed to begin, the opposing team was short several
players. The home plate umpire asked Mitch if he wanted to make the other
team forfeit, or if he wanted to give them 5 minutes to look for players.
Mitch agreed to let the other team look for players, and they eventually
found enough subs to begin the game. The game itself was close for almost
the entire time. The Weasels would score a few runs in the top half of the
inning, only to give those runs right back in the bottom half (mainly due to
errors and bad throws). There was some drama late in the game, however. In
the top of the 6th inning, time had expired, and the opposing team was
leading 15-11. Christine grounded out to start the inning. Mitch singled,
and then Megan struck out. Two outs, four runs down, and the Weasels went to
work. Newton singled, advancing Mitch to second. Brandy hit the ball to the
third baseman, but he bobbled the ball and Mitch was able to slide in
safely, just ahead of the play. The bases were loaded, and Neil singled,
scoring Mitch and Newton. Trisha singled, re-loading the bases. Eric
doubled, scoring Brandy and Neil, tying the game. Carrie got out to end the
inning, but the game was tied, and went to the bottom of the 6th inning.
Sadly, the Weasels defense floundered, and the opponents scored the winning
run before the Weasels were able to record a single out. The only
consolation is that a great deal of the opponents best players were subs, so
the next time the Weasels face them, they may not be as good. Thanks to Rob
for keeping score and Trisha and Sherri for subbing after already having
played in a previous game. The final score was Bat Now - Beer Later 16, Ice
Weasels 15.
I will send out the lineup for Saturday's game in the morning.
