This was the second game for the Ice Weasels at the low intermediate
level, and it started off encouragingly. The Weasels scored runs steadily
in the first few innings, while holding the opposition in check. Sting
scored a few runs, but the Weasels maintained the lead. Sting narrowed
the Weasels lead to 8-7, but the Weasels added a couple runs to make it
10-7. There were 10 minutes left and Sting was coming up to bat. Due to some
timely hitting and defensive errors, Sting was able to score 8 runs before
the inning (and the game) ended. The final score was Sting 15, Ice
Weasels 10. The Weasels did not play their best game, offensively or
defensively. Pete pitched well (as always), Newton was a solid presence in
left field, Tammy recorded a number of key outs at second base, Neil played
good defense at shortstop, and the team managed to put together some runs.
The top of the batting order (Newton, Kari, Neil) did particularly well.
This game was both positive and negative for the Weasels. On the negative
side, of course, is the loss and sub-par playing. But on the positive side,
despite the problems, the game was close -- another indication that Ice
Weasels are not out of their league at the low intermediate level.
