Ape Canyon trip

For all of those of you who didn't help out in the work party today, you
missed a fun early winter ride up Ape Canyon. We rode only as far as Ape
Canyon
where the snow really began to get fairly thick on the trail. The weather
was perfect for riding - in fact most of us were over dressed (like me!). At
Ape Canyon I mentioned that Mountain Goats had been seen here recently
(thanks Tom for the sighting tip). Sure enough on the far side of Ape Canyon
were
five goats laying on the side of the steep slope. After we got back to the
parking lot we talked with a hiker who was the first one up today, and they
had counted 17!

The two Daves commented on the fact that we could see more scenery on the
trail today! No leaves on the desciduous trees!

Since our ride up Ape Canyon was abbreviated we made a quick descent down to
Smith Creek. I learned the hard way that you must bunny hop wet alder logs
since they are just like going across railroad tracks.

There were seven of us who made the trip up to the Mountain today. Five had
never been up there before. Since this is supposed to be a G-rated listserv
I won't make the comment I made at dinner about the 5 who hadn't been up
there before...
