This sounds like Parks and Rec has an incorrect vision for this park,
or at least one that doesn't jive with how I can actually see it
being used by the community. I look forward to talking with Will and
Dave at the PUMP meeting about how we can work with Parks to create
the park that folks want.
Parks have many features with elevation for kids to play on - swings
and other play structures. This issue seems to be one of confusing
the issues of risk and how risk can be managed at parks. This is a
recurring problem throughout the state right now in regards to
technical features for bikes, not just limited to Parks and Rec.
But, there are some simple steps that can help with this issue.
I think what is more important is that the park should be designed to
serve the entire community, not just kids. Perhaps having a
designated kids area or smaller skill building features is
appropriate for kids. But, designing the skills park entirely for
kids is wrong in my mind... unless there are plans for a non-kids
skills park?
See you all Tuesday night,
Ryan K.

This is totally getting through parks and rec as a skills park for
kids. They are not interested in talking about or having any jumps
or features with any elevation. Sounds like this is a "build it and
if it works, you have permission, otherwise we will tear it down"
kind of thing. Think we can get a few people together sunday morning
at the school to throw around ideas and start coming up with a plan?
I think Dave is planning to start building the pumptrack asap, so
might be good to try and have a meeting of the minds sooner rather
then later...
