RE: [pumpclub] Cyclecross/pump track/ sklls park greenlighted in SE

For anyone interested, people will be getting together Sunday morning at 10am to
discuss plans for the field at se 14th and stark. This will just be a general
discussion on the direction of the land in general and buildign a pump track as
soon as possible in particular. If anyone has a line on good dirt, very
interested on getting that lined up.

Thanks,
-Will

Will,

Do you think you could attend our meeting on Tuesday and perhaps have Dave

come? We will be focusing the meeting on volunteer appreciation but this

is a hot topic. I would not mind setting aside a few minutes to give some

information to the club members.

If a bribe will work Susan is bringing a cake.

RE: [pumpclub] Cyclecross/pump track/ sklls park greenlighted in SE

Just wanted to give an update. I just takled to Dave and got a little more

information about the project vision. This has been sold to parks and rec

as a kids bike school with a cyclecross track. Dave has been working for a

few years trying to nail down a location to teach bike skills to kids k-8.

Dirt is supposed to arrive this weekend, at which point the tracks will

get

started. There will be an area for very small TTFs and an area for a pump

track.

I am meeting up with Dave tomorrow to do a walk through of what he has

permission to do on the site and get more information about what has been

agreed upon and by whom. He has been working on this for a few years and

only got approval after agreeing not to do jumps and anything elevated. It

does not sound like at this point there is an overall plan and that this

is

coming together very organically. Will update after we talk tomorrow.

I dropped a line to Alta Planning and Design, Gravity Logic, Hoots, and

IMBA

to get a feel for what kind of financial commitment it woudl take to get

professionals to do site planning.

I know at this stage, Dave would be excited to get help from PUMP, WTF or

other organizations.

Tomorrow I plan on mostly listening and asking questions and get more of a

guage of what has transpired and who is involved.

If anyone has specific questions I should ask, throw them out there.

Thanks,

Will

Awesome, Jordon. It sounds like this project can use all the help it can

get. After my brief conversation with Dave, it sounded like they had the

green light to start, but did not have a plan yet. Dave sounded to me like

he was more familiar with the cyclecross aspect but was clear that this

was

ment to cover the spectrum of dirt based bike use. I'm not sure who is

actually in charge, what process the design/layout needs to go through

(once

again, sounded like Dave was already looking for dirt an materials, so

might

be a situation where the cart is coming before the horse). I want to get

up

to speed with the players as well as the process this has been going

through

so I can best figure out how I can be involved and give this the best

opportunity to be successful. I am not at all familiar with how the system

works, and have not worked with land managers on any level, so I'm sure as

I

get more involved, I will be pulling on the collective resources of

everyone

here.

Thanks,

Will

Will,

I am really familiar with that site (the old Washington High School) and

would think that it would make a perfect place for a bike park. Really

close-in, open space, and publicly owned. I took a bunch of pictures there

over the summer---it's near my house. Let me know how I can help!
