Hood River Outdoor Recreation Company
Recognized for Community Service
Hood River, OR - Over the past three years, DAKINE, an outdoor recreation
company based in Hood River, has contributed nearly $20,000 in labor and
contributions to maintain trails located on the Barlow Ranger District of
Mt. Hood National Forest. In recognition of DAKINE’s service to the
recreating community, District Ranger Mike Hernandez will present Chico
Bukovansky, National Sales Manager for DAKINE with a symbol of
appreciation and thanks at 1:00 p.m. on July 31 at DAKINE’s Hood River
store.
Over a three year period, DAKINE has contributed 840 hours of paid
employee labor to accomplish heavy maintenance of the Knebal Springs
Trail, Lookout Mt. Trail, and the Knebal Springs connector trail. “Our
partnership with DAKINE is an excellent example of government and private
enterprise working together as good stewards of the land and for the
public common good,” said District Ranger Mike Hernandez. For this year’s
celebration of National Trails Day, DAKINE also donated $3,000 for awards
and incentives to be presented to other trail maintenance volunteers not
affiliated with the company.
“DAKINE is a local business leader in our community whose employees
maintain trails used by diverse user groups such as mountain bikers,
hikers, and horse people. It has been an outstanding experience working
with them”, commented Jim Thornton, Trails Coordinator for the Barlow
Ranger District.
For more information about the July 31 presentation to DAKINE, and to find
how to volunteer, please call Jim Thornton at 541-467-2291.
