Greetings Friends of Forest Park ~
Happy New Year. 2007 was a great year by all measures and we extend our
deepest thanks to each of you for your ongoing generosity, support and
enthusiasm. Here's a short list of highlights:
* Trails have been maintained as never before,
* The Discovery Hike series included more hikes and more
participants than ever;A
* A Mountain Bike Trail Committee has been formed and is exploring
the possibility of a single-track mountain bike trail;
* A dedicated Board has led the organization through the search
for a new Executive Director while honoring the incredible
accomplishments of Gail Snyder;
* A Nominating Committee has been appointed and will soon begin
deliberations on potential new Board members;
* We have moved our offices to NW 23rd Avenue;
* The staff has grown to 4 full-time members;
* Corporate partners and volunteers have participated in several
fabulous work parties, contributing over 1,000 hours of trail work in
Forest Park; and,
* The groundwork has been laid for moving ahead with the Forest
Park Conservancy and the 60th anniversary of Forest Park.
In fact, in our excitement to roll out the Forest Park Conservancy we
may have inadvertently created some confusion. We want to assure each of
you that Friends of Forest Park and the Forest Park Conservancy are in
fact the same organization.
Friends will always be a part of the Forest Park equation, regardless of
the name of the organization! In fact, the Forest Park Conservancy will
be a medium for growing support and membership. In order for the
Conservancy to emerge as a new entity with distinct responsibilities,
paperwork will be filed with the state to change the name of the
organization. Our mission remains the same: dedication to the protection
and enhancement of Forest Park as an irreplaceable natural resource
benefiting generations of Portland-area residents and visitors. We will
continue to invite and encourage you, our members, to serve as champions
for the future of Forest Park.
For more information or to make an electronic contribution, you can

May 2008 bring peace, joy to the world and time to appreciate Forest
Park, a true treasure in the midst of this wonderful place we call home.
