This rider attended a meet n' greet 30,000 ft level meeting this evening. At
the table were representatives from the Black Rock Mountain Bike Association
(BRMBA - http://www.brmba.org/), the Westside Trail Federation (WTF -
http://westsidetrailfederation.org/), Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF), and
yours truly for PUMP (although, stealthily looking for additional riding
friends!). And of course, I attended to bring the blessings of Tilla-muck
Wayne.
The WTF is working towards setting up more structure within their
organization, including electing board members and gaining non-profit status via
affiliation with BRMBA. BRMBA has 501(c)(3) and IMBA affiliation status - as
does PUMP. They have been actively working with ODF to construct a primitive
technical trail in Mountain Bike Area 1 within the Tillamook State Forest.
This was a great first meeting, there is a lot of energy in this group for
constructing trails with Technical Trail Features (TTFs). ODF is seeking a
Vision or Master Plan type document that will serve to guide survey/planning and
future trail / infrastructure (including possible new trailheads) construction
within Mountain Bike Area 1. It was recommended that time be dedicated to
surveying the area and start to feel out what type of master guidance is needed
to provide for a long term sustainable, user created/maintained/managed trail
network.
Our next meeting is scheduled for late April. I will provide an update at
that time. This meeting really energized me towards new trails close to town!
I will plan to be helping WTF out on some of their future work parties, doing
some recon in Area 1, and definitely out on trail parties for the new segment of
the Wilson River Trail (which will be going through the southern part of Area
1).
